Christophe Gans’ retrofitted retelling of the classic “Beauty and the Beast” fairy tale opens in appropriate fashion: With a pair of wide-eyed youngsters being read a fable from a distractingly large storybook. That their narrator is played by Lea Seydoux is the first indication that the tale will have a happy ending — after all, she’s telling her own story, that of the warm-hearted beauty Belle and the misunderstood Beast she came to love (and ultimately save). But Gans isn’t especially concerned with the outcome this coupling, instead reveling in overwrought and often bloated storytelling, lush details and some of the year’s most unnerving CGI. In this “Beauty and Beast,” the happy ending can’t come soon enough.

Pathe Films has posted a making-of video for Christophe Gans' adaptation of the fairy tale Beauty And The Beast, featuring an interview with the director and screen writer Sandra Vo-Anh. Unfortunately, its in French so those who don't know the language will not be able to understand what their saying but atleast there are some stunning visuals on display throughout the video. In addition, the music video entitled "Sauras-Tu M'Aimer" with The Voice's season 2 winner Yoann Fréget performing, has some more footage and it looks spectacular.1810. After the wreck of his ships, a financially-ruined merchant exiles himself in the countryside with his six children. Among them is Beauty, his youngest daughter, a joyful girl full of grace. There aren't any subtitles, but I think we all pretty much know the story of Beauty and the Beast at this point so figuring out what's going on shouldn't be too much of an issue. Of course, the tone of the piece is a different story, though I think that's quite clear as well. The only question is how seriously will we be able to take this telling of the story and how good will the performances be at convincing us. Starring Blue is the Warmest Color star Lea Seydoux as Belle and Vincent Cassel as the beast, this latest adaptation is directed by Christophe Gans and it's his first film since 2006's Silent Hill adaptation and he co-wrote it with first time screenwriter Sandra Vo-Anh. The film will open in France on February 12, 2014, but there isn't a domestic distributor as of yet and I'm not sure we should ever expect one.
