There is no The Strangers franchise without Bryan Bertino, who directed the original home invasion movie that paved the way for a sequel and now a reboot trilogy later this year.
Bertino (The Dark and the Wicked) is also making his own return to the horror genre with the upcoming Vicious, which has Dakota Fanning (The Watchers) on board to star.
Vicious has already been dated for release on August 8, 2025, and Deadline brings us another update this week. For starters, Devyn Nekoda (Scream VI) will also star.

A teenage boy's penchant for finding some form of trouble is worth studying.
In Lifetime's newest original film, Friday Night Sext Scandal, we have a storyline inspired by real events.
It intends to explore the dark underbelly of the high school experience regarding teenage boys who go on the hunt for sexually explicit photos from their female counterparts.
And in true Lifetime fashion, they explore the scandalous nature behind this from a different perspective.
The film focuses on one teen boy's experience of getting reeled into these deplorable actions.
The film stars Riverdale's Anthony Timpano as Shawn, a 16-year-old jock who is just starting to see advancement in his football career when he's upgraded to a starter on the team.
Of course, with advancement in the athletic realm comes increased popularity and the opportunity to hang out with upperclassmen, too.
And we all know very little good comes from associating with upper-class jocks.

Although her character, franchise heroine Sidney Prescott, was originally included in the script for Scream VI (watch it Here), Neve Campbell ended up passing on the offer to reprise the role for that film due to a pay dispute. Soon after the film was released, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich (who makes brief appearances in the 2022 Scream and Scream VI) said Campbell loved what they did with the latest sequel… but while doing a Q&a at the 2023 Monster-Mania Con, Campbell revealed that she only recently watched the film. It took her longer than we thought to see it, but her reaction was a positive one in the end.
Campbell told the Monster-Mania crowd (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “I hadn’t watched it until two weeks ago. It took me a minute, I don’t know why. I actually thought they did a really good job.

Two weeks ago, Scream VI (read our review Here) surpassed the worldwide box office total of last year’s Scream movie, leaving its $139 million haul in the dust. As of right now, Scream VI has pulled in $162,210,554 worldwide… and it has reached another milestone. Scream VI crossed the $100 million mark domestically this past weekend, and has now become the highest-grossing entry in the entire franchise at the domestic box office. Until now, the original Scream – released back in 1996 – had been sitting in the top spot with $103 million. Now Scream VI is at the top with $104,410,554 and counting. Complex lists the domestic box office for previous entries: “Scream 2 earned $101 million in 1997, Scream 3 made $89 million in 2000, Scream 4 pulled in just $38 million in 2011, and Scream (2022) ended its domestic run at $81.6 million.”

After kicking ass and taking names in movies like Ready or Not, Guns Akimbo, and Mayhem, Samara Weaving is traveling through time to lay the smackdown on the era of high hair, neon windbreakers, and thrash metal! According to Deadline, Weaving will star in Bella, a 1980s-set action thriller from Larysa Kondracki.
Kondracki directs the feature, with Craig Flores producing through Bread & Circuses Entertainment alongside John Wick’s Chad Stahelski through his 87Eleven banner. Jason Spitz and Alex Young executive produce, with Jesse Wigutow writing based on Jason Markarian’s script.
Set during a 1980s crimewave in New York City, Deadline says Bella is a “hyper-stylized action thriller about a cop’s daughter who, after her father clings to life following an assassination attempt, goes on a rampage to unearth her father’s assassin and weed out deep-rooted corruption in the New York City Police Department.”

Last year, the Scream franchise returned the big screen after an eleven year absence – and last year’s Scream was such a hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office on a budget of $24 million, that Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media quickly greenlit another sequel. Scream VI (read our review Here) had a slightly higher budget, in the range of $35 million, but it’s also turning out to be an even bigger box office success than its predecessor. Scream VI‘s global box office total currently stands at $139.2 million. In just over two weeks of release, it has surpassed Scream 2022’s box office. So don’t be surprised to hear a Scream 7 announcement any day now.
If Scream 7 is put on the fast track, it sounds like Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directing duo behind the two recent sequels, would be up for returning. They...

Now in its third week of release here in the United States, Scream VI has found itself in the #4 spot on the domestic box office charts, scaring up $89.9 million to date (domestically).
Worldwide, Scream VI has slashed its way into $139.2 million, officially passing the worldwide total of last year’s Scream – which ended its run with a total of $137.7 million.
The number to beat in that department is still Wes Craven’s original Scream movie, which hit a franchise-high $173 million when all was said and done back in 1996.
Stay tuned… and you can probably expect a Scream 7 announcement soon…
Meagan wrote in her review of Scream VI, “This slasher sequel lets a ruthless Ghostface loose in the city, slicing up an intense, flawless entry that continues the streak of insightful introspection while escalating the thrills, kills, humor, and heart to a breathless degree.”

As fans of Scream know very well by now, Scream VI (read our review Here) is the first entry in the slasher franchise not to feature Neve Campbell as heroine Sidney Prescott. The Sidney character was originally part of the story written by Scream 2022 writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, but she had to be written out when Campbell passed on the project due to a pay dispute. If you’re wondering if Campbell is feeling any negativity about the Scream movie they made without her, her Scream co-star Skeet Ulrich – who returns for hallucinatory appearances in Scream 2022 and Scream VI – is here to assure you that she doesn’t. In fact, Ulrich said Campbell “loved” the new movie.
Speaking with People, Ulrich said he had talked to Campbell about Scream VI when they were both at a recent convention. He told them, “She loves it; she loves what we’ve done.

One week after scoring the franchise’s highest opening weekend to date, the Radio Silence-directed Scream VI has now passed $100 million at the worldwide box office.
As of this morning, Scream VI has amassed a worldwide total of $116 million – the domestic total at this time is $76 million – which makes it the fifth movie in the slasher franchise to hit that $100 million mark. The only film in the franchise that didn’t quite reach those heights was Wes Craven’s Scream 4 back in 2011, which ended its worldwide run with $97 million.
Scream VI is on track to pass Scream 2022’s worldwide total of $137 million, and if it can pass the original movie’s $173 million it’ll be the highest grossing Scream movie to date.
Stay tuned… and you can probably expect a Scream 7 announcement soon…

I love going to the theater. I mean, who doesn’t? The chance to see a great horror movie up on the biggest screen possible is one of the simplest pleasures in life. And now there’s a bevy of options to see your movie in such as RealD 3D, Dolby, IMAX, and Laser Projection. Premium Formats, they call them, and I have experienced almost every single format out there.
But one in particular always eluded me for various reasons: 4Dx.
What exactly is 4Dx?
4Dx is a premium format that allows films to be projected with various practical effects like rain, wind, strobe lighting and motion-seats. The goal is to fully immerse the audience in the movie and the effects allow for recreations of various effects seen on screen. For example: a character standing in the rain on screen will cause the...

There’s no guarantee that we’re going to get a Scream 7, but since Scream VI (read our review Here) had the biggest opening weekend of any film in the Scream franchise and has already made over $75 million at the global box office, there’s a good chance it’s going to happen. Scream VI and Scream 2022 directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have said they’re hoping for more sequels, whether they’re involved with them or not, and also said they would try to get Neve Campbell and her character Sidney Prescott into another sequel if they are involved. During an interview with CinePOP, Scream VI and Scream 2022 star Melissa Barrera also had a casting suggestion for the next sequel: she wants Salma Hayek, who can currently be seen in Magic Mike’s Last Dance, to play the mother of her character Samantha Carpenter and her...

This post contains spoilers for "Scream VI."
Say what you will about "Scream VI," but it's definitely one of the most suspenseful entries in the entire series. After the third, fourth, and fifth "Scream" movies seemed strangely uninterested in the tense chase sequences that made the first two installments so engaging, this new sequel serves as a welcome return to form. Not only is the film's bodega sequence both brutal and completely unlike anything we've ever seen in these movies before, but then there's the sequence where Ghostface barges through Sam and Tara's apartment like a bull in a china shop. They're a near-unstoppable killing machine, and the characters' only real option is to run away.
But where the sequence really escalates into one of the film's best moments is when Sam (Melissa Barrera), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Anika (Devyn Nekoda) are forced to climb a horizontal ladder into the other apartment,...

One only has to go as far as the trailers to realize the sheer scope of work for Costume Designer Avery Plewes in Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet’s Scream VI. A packed New York City subway on Halloween, filled with dense crowds in Halloween costumes, ensured that Avery had her hands full during production. And that’s only for one extended, thrilling sequence.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Plewes about her work on the film, including designing for legacy characters like Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and the surprising ways she paid tribute to Wes Craven. For starters, Plewes deferred to the expert regarding Gale’s look in this sequel.
“Courteney knows Gale better than any of us,” Plewes states. “She’s very collaborative and receptive, but I’m like, you’re the Gale expert. I am a guest here, and I will bring my ideas to the table, and we...

[This story contains spoilers for Scream VI.]
Scream VI filmmakers Radio Silence, the collective that consists of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella, have set a new franchise record with a $44.5 million opening weekend.
Just 14 months after their legacy sequel Scream (2022) reinvigorated Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven’s slasher franchise by introducing it to a whole new generation of horror fans, co-directors Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett, alongside producer Villella, are now opening up about the choices they did and didn’t make. For starters, the persistent rumor that Stu Macher (Mathew Lillard) would reprise his co-Ghostface role from the original 1996 film and serve as Scream VI’s Ghostface mastermind may or may not have been started by their co-screenwriter Guy Busick.
“We love that … It’s cool to be a part of a franchise where who lives and who dies is so meaningful to people. And who knows, with Guy at the keyboard, anything is possible with Stu Macher,...

Hot on the heels of a largely positive critical response (see our own Meagan Navarro’s glowing review here) and an opening weekend performance that has broken franchise records, Scream VI‘s cast and crew are no doubt riding a high right now. The “sequel to the requel” follows the surviving “Core Four” from 2022’s Scream—Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega), Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown), and Chad (Mason Gooding)–as they leave behind the suburban backdrop of Woodsboro and venture to New York City to start anew.
Yet again helmed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, Scream VI also welcomes back franchise staple Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), Scream 4 fan-favorite Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere), the iconic voice of Ghostface (Roger L. As expected, the Radio Silence-directed Scream VI is another box office win for the franchise, the sixth installment surpassing the opening weekends of every other Scream movie.
At this time it’s being reported that Scream VI scared up $44.5 million in theaters here in the United States this weekend, compared to last year’s $30 million opening for Scream 5.
This gives Scream VI the highest opening weekend of any film in the entire Scream franchise, far surpassing previous record holder Scream 3 and its $34 million opening.
Here are the domestic opening numbers for each of the previous movies…
Scream (1996) – $6 million Scream 2 (1997) – $32 million Scream 3 (2000) – $34 million Scream 4 (2011) – $18 million Scream (2022) – $30 million
Last year’s Scream ended up making $81 million domestically and $140 million worldwide, so those are currently the numbers for Scream VI to beat when all is said and done.
Worldwide, Scream VI has currently slashed its way to $67 million.

Scream VI is scaring up a series-best opening of $43.5 million from 3,675 theaters at the domestic box office after starting off Friday with roughly $19.3 million, including $5.7 million in Thursday previews.
The film — which is earning strong exits and received a B+ CinemaScore — will easily win the weekend, thanks to moviegoers between the ages of 18 and 34.
The last Scream film, released in January 2022, opened to $30 million domestically in an impressive showing for the pandemic era. The biggest North American start of the franchise belongs to 2000’s Scream 3 ($34.7 million), not adjusted for inflation.
Scream VI, which cost a reported $33 million to make before marketing, follows survivors of last year’s installment as they leave Woodsboro for New York City. “Scream VI” is here, a little more than a year after the last installment. And the body count is rising.
In “Scream 6,” Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) and her younger half-sister Tara (Jenna Ortega), both survivors of 2022’s “Scream,” have moved to New York City. Tara is attending Blackmore University and not visiting any actual Manhattan landmarks because they shot the movie in Montreal. A couple of other survivors from the last movie, twins Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding), are also along for the ride and attending Blackmore University. But wouldn’t you know it? A mask-wielding killer has arrived, once again, and targeted Sam and Tara once again. Of course, this wouldn’t be a “Scream” installment without some legacy characters, and Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), still reeling from Dewey’s death in the 2022 film, makes her return alongside Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) from “Scream 4.

The slasher sequel Scream 6 is now in theatres (you can read our review Here), and if you’re in the Los Angeles area you also have the chance to visit the Scream VI Experience, an immersive exhibit that is built to look like the bodega where a standout scene in the film takes place. The Experience bodega is packed with Easter egg nods to previous Scream movies – and there is also museum of props and costumes from all of the Scream movies. JoBlo / Arrow in the Head reader Ryan C. was able to check out the exhibit, and was kind enough to send in several pictures he took while looking around in there. Scream 6 is now in theatres (you can read our review at This Link), and ever since it was first announced that the movie was going to take place in New York City, fans have been jokingly referring to it as “Ghostface Takes Manhattan”, a nod to the 1989 slasher sequel Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Chad Villella confirmed that he and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett “studied” Jason Takes Manhattan before going into production on Scream 6. And during an interview with our friends at Bloody Disgusting, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett revealed that there is an Easter egg reference to Jason Takes Manhattan in the finished film.
Villella told Entertainment Weekly, “Oh, we definitely studied it, and we wanted to make sure that we didn’t have a boat in this! We wanted to be in the city, in...

Ghostface is back on the big screen with the release of Scream VI in theaters nationwide, and Thursday’s opening night numbers suggest it’s another massive win for the franchise.
In 3,125 theaters here in the United States, Scream IV scared up $5.7 million on Thursday night, with the film expanding to 3,675 theaters across the United States beginning today.
For the sake of comparison, last year’s Scream made $3.5 million in Thursday night previews, before ultimately ending up with an impressive $30 million opening weekend.
According to Variety, Scream VI is currently tracking to end the weekend with $35 to $40 million, but it’s entirely possible that the final number could far surpass $40 million.
These numbers would give Scream VI the franchise’s biggest opening weekend to date.
Here are the domestic opening numbers for each of the previous movies…
Scream (1996) – $6 million Scream 2 (1997) – $32 million Scream 3 (2000) – $34 million Scream 4 (2011) – $18 million Scream (2022) – $30 million...

Major spoilers for "Scream VI" follow.
At a certain point, all long-running film franchises begin to resemble soap operas. Characters change, they die, some old faces fade away while new faces step up into the spotlight, and so on. A large majority of soap operas typically feature characters that are relatives of each other, as they all struggle to define themselves as individuals while wrestling with their larger family legacy.
Now that the "Scream" franchise of slasher films has officially entered into its second generation of leading characters with "Scream VI," it's not necessarily true that the series is more soap opera-y now than it was before. After all, this is a franchise whose inciting incident, as described in the first "Scream," was infidelity, a plot point that feels more soap opera than slasher movie when taken on its own.
That's no accident, however, as the bulk of original "Scream...

Spanning six live-action films, a television series, and even a franchise within a franchise, the “Scream” films have been scaring audiences since 1996.
The franchise was created by Kevin Williamson, who wrote “Scream,” “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.” The first four films were directed by legendary horror master Wes Craven.
Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin took over directing duties on the latest two films (Craven died in 2015) while Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt replaced Williamson as screenwriters. Williamson remains an executive producer.
The original “Scream” was credited with reinvigorating the slasher film and the career of Drew Barrymore, who provides the memorable first death. Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette have figured prominently throughout the franchise, though Campbell exited “Scream 6” over a salary dispute. The antagonist in all the films is a mask-wearing murderer named Ghostface. Though Ghostface has been revealed to be different people with different motivations, they...

Ready Or Not co-directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett return for a fun-filled follow-up to their enjoyable 2022 reboot of the Scream series, in what is essentially a sequel to the requel. As such, the oh-so-meta, self-aware slasher franchise continues to be safe in their very capable hands.
This time round, in a nod to 1989’s Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (the theme music plays at one point), the action moves from Woodsboro to New York, as the self-dubbed “Core Four” survivors of the previous movie attend Blackmore College in the Big Apple. They include: Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), whose father, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich...

The masked killer Ghostface is back and he’s looking as terrifying as ever. Paramount and Spyglass’ Scream VI opens over Oscar weekend at the domestic box office, where it has a shot at a series-best $35 million-plus opening.
The previous Scream film, released in 2022, opened to $30 million domestically in a strong showing for the pandemic era. To set an overall franchise record, Scream VI will have to best the $34.7 million debut of Scream 3 in 2000.
The latest installment in the iconic slasher franchise follows survivors of the 2022 film as they leave Woodsboro for New York City. Unfortunately, the menacing Ghostface isn’t far behind. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who helmed last year’s Scream, returned to direct.
Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere (last seen in Scream 4) and Courteney Cox likewise return alongside franchise newbies Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato Devyn Nekoda,...
