Update: Faced with the loss of pay for any games he missed because of his refusal to be vaccinated, Golden State Warriors swingman Andrew Wiggins has finally gotten his first jab.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed Wiggins has been vaccinated. Because the Warriors’ San Francisco hometown reguires vaccinations for indoor events for those age 12 and over when attendance tops 1,000 people,
That meant Wiggins could have faced missing the team’s home games. New York City has similar restrictions.
Wiggins is one of several players who have, so far, resisted vaccinations. Earlier, he tried for a religious exemption, but was denied.
Brooklyn’s Kyrie Irving and Washington’s Bradley Beal are among the known NBA players who have not been vaccinated so far. The league has estimated 95% of players and all staff and traveling members have been vaccinated. Irving would face the same missed games and practices under New York’s restrictions.

Two players on Mexico’s Olympics baseball team tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, prior to their scheduled departure to Tokyo, according to a statement from the Mexican Baseball League.
The players in question were Héctor Velázquez and Sammy Solís, both of whom are pitchers for the Acereros de Monclova.
Both were asymptomatic. They were placed in hotel room to quarantine “immediately” upon receipt of the positive Pcr tests. Other players and team coaching staff were likewise isolated, until Pcr tests could be provided and assessed.
A training session scheduled for Monday evening at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium was canceled, following the Covid outbreak; tests were conducted on all other individuals affiliated with Mexico’s baseball team earlier today.
The team will depart for Tokyo on Wednesday, as previously scheduled. Protocols established by the Mexican Olympic Committee will continue to be followed, “to safeguard the health” of all team members.

The NBA offseason is always compelling, delivering at least a couple “Game of Thrones”-level trades and free agent signings each year. And even though the offseason moved from summer to fall because of Covid, that hasn’t slowed down the news cycle any. The latest: the Houston Rockets traded Russell Westbrook to the Washington Wizards for John Wall and a future first round draft pick.
This news took NBA Twitter by storm on Wednesday night, with pretty much everyone unloading joke after joke about the trade. On paper, it’s not a trade that seems like it would change much for either team — both Westbrook and Wall are high-scoring, ball-hog point guards heading to teams with high-scoring, ball-hog shooting guards (James Harden for the Rockets and Bradley Beal for the Wizards).
But in the NBA, chemistry is just as important as superstars, and maybe the Westbrook and Wall will...

On Thursday, host Jimmy Kimmel brought along his latest edition of “Mean Tweets,” which saw NBA stars reading aloud a smorgasbord of unkind Twitter posts.

The 2019 NBA Finals are in full swing. Fans cheered for their favorite teams all season long, but it was the Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors that made it to end. While there's always a little trash-talking off the court, some fans take these rivalries to a whole new level. Jimmy Kimmel proved this to be true by having a few players and owners read hateful social media posts about themselves for Thursday's segment of "Mean Tweets." The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host recruited some big NBA names, too, including Kevin Durant, Charles Barkley, Ben Simmons, Chris Bosh, Bradley Beal, Dirk Nowitzki and Joel Embiid. Steve Ballmer, Jrue Holiday, Paul George, Kyle Lowry, Kemba Walker,...

It’s time for the 2019 NBA finals, as the Toronto Raptors take on the defending champion Golden State Warriors. Or, as Jimmy Kimmel put it during the NBA Game Night primetime special, “A team of young Canadian upstarts – versus – the team that’s gonna win.”
Kimmel was in rare form on his monologue. Some of his better lines:
*** “The Warriors are super motivated to win this series. Cause – as you know, when you collect three consecutive championship rings – you can trade them in for a championship necklace which very few players have.”
*** :”The good news for the Raptors is – all-star forward Kevin Durant is out for the game with a calf injury – which means the Warriors will be force to play with only three future Hall of Famers in their lineup.”
***. At this point, the Warriors are like the Avengers. We all know they’re going to win – we...

“It looks like LeBron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has, the first lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today,” the first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement. “As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative. Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron.
