After a years-long, arduous journey toward redemption, the Golden Globes has finally found a new long-term home. On Monday, March 25, The Golden Globe Awards announced that it has made a five-deal with CBS to broadcast the award show on the network, and stream it live on the affiliated streaming service Paramount+. Though CBS already aired the Globes this year, the new agreement does not go into effect until the January 2025 broadcast.
Though the awards show has had a rocky few years in wake of a 2021 LA Times investigation that revealed a lack of diversity among its membership, and shady conduct, the news that it has been picked up does not come as a total surprise. The recent 81st annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 7 drew 9.4 million viewers, up nearly 50 percent from the 2023 broadcast on NBC, the show’s longtime home. The 2024 Golden Globes telecast was also the third-largest...

The Golden Globes will air on CBS and livestream on Paramount+ for another five years, per a new deal that also puts the American Music Awards on the Eye Network. The agreement kicks off with the January 2025 telecast of the Globes.
January 2024 marked the Golden Globes’ first ceremony since being acquired by Dick Clark Productions. (Variety parent company Pmc owns Dick Clark Prods. in a joint venture with Eldridge.) Previously, the show was produced by Dick Clark through an agreement with the now-dissolved Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose scandals caused NBC to drop the show in 2022 before airing it again in 2023.
The renewed agreement between the CBS and Dick Clark is unsurprising, as the Globes saw success on the network this year, reaching 9.4 million viewers on Jan. 8 — a 50% increase from NBC’s 2023 telecast — which grew to 10 million after one week of delayed viewing.

Exclusive: Two months after the Golden Globes aired on CBS for the first time in more than four decades, the network has closed a new five-year deal to continue to broadcast the awards show and stream it live on Paramount+.
The new agreement, announced by George Cheeks, President and CEO of CBS, and Jay Penske, Chairman and CEO of Deadline parent Penske Media and Dick Clark Productions, kicks off with the January 2025 broadcast. The pact also includes the American Music Awards moving to CBS. Both awards shows are owned and produced by Dick Clark Productions.
The early, long-term renewal of the Golden Globes is in contrast to the one-year pact for the 2024 ceremony, which CBS closed less than two months before the January 7 show.
It recognizes the broadcast’s ratings success, with the 81st Golden Globes averaging 9.96 million viewers in Live+7, up nearly +50% from last year’s low on NBC...

Taylor Swift may have worn a glittering green gown by Gucci, but she found herself in a golden era Sunday, if only for a few hours, and what a time it was.
The superstar singer touched down at the Beverly Hilton for the 81st Golden Globes to honor a nomination in the new cinematic and box office achievement category for reinventing the rollout of concert documentaries (and smashing records in the process) courtesy of AMC’s Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. Though she went home empty-handed — the inaugural trophy went to Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie and the pink parade from Barbie, which earned north of a billion dollars and became a cultural phenomenon — Swift snagged the lion’s share of attention in a room filled with A-listers. (AMC also used the occasion to announce that the doc passed Michael Jackson’s This Is It to become the top-grossing concert doc of all time.

With the last season of HBO’s “Succession” landing nine nominations at the 81st annual Golden Globes, Sarah Snook took home her first as in the lead actress in a drama series category. While Snook has won the Globe for her role as Shiv in HBO’s “Succession” in the past, this is her first win in this category — she previously competed in the supporting actress category. She took home the trophy in 2021, the last time “Succession” was eligible. This time around, following her dominant and powerful role in the final episodes of the fan-favorite drama, she submitted in the lead category.
Earlier in the night, “Succession” stars Kieran Culkin and Matthew Macfadyen took home the awards for actor and supporting actor, and the series won best drama.
“I was kind of hoping I didn’t have to get up! Kieran is usually better at the speeches. Do you want to get up instead?...

Preeminent comedian Jo Koy has been set to host the 81st Golden Globe Awards, in what will be his first outing in that capacity at a major awards show.
He comes to the role of Globes host after breaking sales records on his “Funny Is Funny World Tour,” which came in as one of the highest grossing of the year according to Pollstar, at a gross of $29.4 million for 88 performances in arenas and theaters around the world.
While the Golden Globes are almost always hosted by comedians these days, the introduction of Koy to the stage is particularly appropriate in a year that’s seen the ceremony introduce a category recognizing Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television, alongside one for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement. Inaugural nominees in the former include Chris Rock, Wanda Sykes, Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman, Ricky Gervais and Amy Schumer.

Before the Golden Globes nominations announcement officially kicked off a few minutes past the totally-not-ungodly hour of 5 a.m. Pacific, Dick Clark Productions executive vp television Barry Adelman was heard reviewing Globes president Helen Hoehne’s teleprompter copy, murmuring the phrase “most culturally diverse major awards body” over and over again.

Golden Globes exec producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner (of White Cherry Entertainment) don’t appear to be sweating the fact that with less than a month to go, there’s still no announced host for this year’s ceremony.
“Or is there?” Weiss quipped, a bit mysteriously. “We have to leave some room for some interesting announcements along the way.” Added Kirshner: “You said, ‘announced host,’ and we still have four weeks to go. We’ll be there on January 7.”
Globes president Helen Hoehne is similarly cryptic: “To be determined,” she told Variety on Monday morning, as the org announced this year’s nominations at the Beverly Hilton. Insiders believe the Globes, Dick Clark Prods. and now CBS have sent out several feelers, but the timing is tough. The Golden Globes have found a new home. The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards will air on CBS in January (with a streaming option available on Paramount+ for cord-cutters), following years as a staple of NBC’s January programming lineup.
“We’re so proud to bring the Golden Globes to CBS to celebrate 81 years of award show history,” said Jay Penske, CEO, Chairman and Founder, Penske Media and owner of Dick Clark Productions. “CBS has demonstrated an impressive 30-year commitment to the Grammys and been instrumental to their long-term success. In CBS we found an ideal partner who understands the value of live entertainment programming and whose multi-platform distribution model is reflective of how global audiences choose to consume content today.” (Penske Media also owns Gold Derby.)

The 2024 Golden Globes have now moved to CBS.
The annual awards ceremony will air live on CBS and stream on Paramount+, as well as be available on the CBS app, as part of a new deal. The upcoming 81st ceremony will take place January 7 in Los Angeles, and will air immediately following an NFL on CBS Sunday doubleheader. The awards show is expected to be supported by a major marketing campaign, per an official press statement.
The Golden Globes previously aired on NBC for decades. However, NBC opted for a one-year broadcast agreement in 2023 following the allegations of racism within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the voting board behind the awards show — that ceremony aired on NBC in January earlier this year. Now the Tiffany Network is claiming dibs.
The HFPA added 103 new voters in 2022, marking the first time voters based outside of the U.S. have been added to the voting pool.

The Golden Globes have found a new broadcast home. The upcoming 81st edition of the Hollywood awards show on January 7, 2024 will air live on CBS, stream on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app. This is a marquee slot for the show, which will follow an NFL on CBS Sunday doubleheader and is expected to be supported by a major marketing campaign.
The announcement follows a multi-month search which started after the Golden Globes’ assets, rights and properties were acquired by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in June, with the awards show turned into a commercial enterprise and the HFPA dissolved.
The new broadcast partnership succeeds the Globes’ longtime association with NBC and brings the Globes back to CBS where the ceremony aired in 1981 and 1982. It gives CBS two of the top awards shows on TV with the Golden Globes and the Grammys.

The Golden Globes has dropped 18 voters who are former members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and will not be voting for the 81st awards, TheWrap has learned.
The Globes sent an email informing studios of the change, which was obtained by TheWrap, and did not give a reason for the change. The list included three people – Munawar Hosain, Aniko Navai and Howaida Hamdy Serour – who were expelled after investigations into violations of the Globes’ code of conduct. Two of those members, Hosain and Hamdy Serous, had been investigated by TheWrap.
All the members had been among the former HFPA members who were paid $75,000 per year under the agreement to sell the organization to Eldridge Industries.
The Globes did not respond to a request for comment on the email to studios, or to explain why the members had been dropped as voters.
The awards are scheduled to take place on Jan.

The Golden Globe Awards will introduce two new categories to its upcoming January broadcast, Variety has learned exclusively. The categories will honor hit movies with global reach in either box office or streaming views, as well as acknowledge the best performance in a stand-up comedy special.

Titles must have grossed at least $150 million during release, $100 million of which must have come from domestic box office. Streaming films with commensurate viewership will be considered based on data from “recognized industry sources,” the Globes said. After 42 years at Variety, awards editor and senior vice president Tim Gray has left the Hollywood trade publication to serve as executive vice president of the Golden Globes.
Gray will also serve on the board of the Golden Globes organization, working closely with president Helen Hoehne to expand the institution, which was acquired by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries following the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
As EVP of the Golden Globes, Gray will oversee its membership and board of directors. Gray leaves Variety after most recently serving as SVP. He previously served as editor-in-chief of the trade, helming the company through a for-sale period in the 2010s before Penske Media Corporation acquired Variety. Pmc and Eldridge own Dick Clark Productions under a joint venture, which means Gray will still work with Penske. He has also written a book titled “75 Years of the Golden Globe Awards.”

Variety legend Tim Gray, who first joined Hollywood’s dominant trade publication in 1981, has departed after 42 years to start a new chapter with the Golden Globes organization as executive vice president. Gray, who will also serve on its board, will work closely with Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne to evolve the entity — which was formed in June, when Dick Clark Prods. and Eldridge Industries acquired the Golden Globes’ assets, rights and properties from the now-defunct Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Gray’s appointment comes as the Golden Globes on Thursday also announced its new membership board of directors, and finalized the timetable for its 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards. The ceremony, currently scheduled to take place on January 7, 2024, does not yet have a broadcast partner.

The Golden Globes, which is embarking on a new era after it was acquired by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge from longtime operator the Hollywood Foreign Press Association earlier this summer, on Thursday revealed its new membership board of directors and timeline for the 2024 awards, which take place January 7.
Organizers said today that the Golden Globes nominations for the 81st edition will be announced Monday, December 11. (See the full timeline below.) Still to come: naming a broadcaster for the ceremony, after its most recent deal with NBC ended with this year’s show. Discussions have been held with outlets including NBC, and an announcement on a new deal is expected by October 2, organizers said today. We hear the ceremony will likely stay at its longtime home at the Beverly Hilton.

Tim Gray, a widely known and respected entertainment journalist who has worked at Variety for the past 42 years, most recently as its svp features, is leaving the trade publication to become the evp of the Golden Globes organization (“the Golden Globes” for short) and oversee its new membership board of directors, the organization announced Wednesday.
Back in June, the Golden Globes replaced the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as the backers of the annual Golden Globe Awards following the acquisition of all the HFPA’s assets, rights and properties by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge. (Dcp and The Hollywood Reporter share the same ownership.)
Gray’s hiring appears to be part of an effort on the part of the new ownership to restore industry confidence in the Golden Globe Awards, the standing of which was not helped in recent years by questionable ethical and financial conduct on the part of the HFPA.

The Golden Globes rollercoaster continues with the Thursday announcement of a newly formed Membership Board of Directors, plus a timetable for the 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards.
The event, now planned, hosted, and produced by Dick Clark Productions (Dcp), is dissolving the Hollywood Foreign Press Association as we know it, with the new Membership Board of Directors now being responsible for selecting, ratifying and accrediting journalists as voting members for the upcoming awards ceremony in January. The group is said to uphold and enforce rigorous standards and practices for the voting body, and is composed of nine in total, of which five are appointed independent entertainment or media professionals and four others elected from within the Golden Globe Association membership.
Helen Hoehne, former President of the HFPA, is now Golden Globes President, with Tim Gray, former awards editor and Senior Vice President for Variety, joining her and the organization as Executive Vice President effective immediately.
