After serving the entertainment industry for more than a decade, Margot Robbie finally found astronomical success in Hollywood, following her appearances in The Wolf of Wall Street and Barbie. While the two iconic movies helped her land a spot among the highest-paid actresses, Robbie gained this phenomenal success after weathering a fair share of box office flops.

Navigating through brutal box office collections and starring in a string of flops, Margot Robbie experienced a few devastating career blows, despite having a stellar cast and acclaimed filmmaker associated with her projects. Therefore, today we’re taking a look at three of her most unsuccessful films — Amsterdam, Babylon, and The Suicide Squad.

Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has muscled its way to the top of viewership on Amazon Prime. The reboot was helmed by Doug Liman, and the numbers recorded are a positive sign that even though the film was overlooked for a theatrical release, the power of storytelling is still compelling, even if it is on a small screen.
The choice to go straight to streaming was deliberate on the part of the makers and the studio. Either way, the move paid off, as the film has set a new record.

One day after Prime Video announced a record-breaking milestone for Doug Liman’s Road House reboot, saying the film amassed 50 million viewers in two weeks, the film’s star, Jake Gyllenhaal, has inked a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios for future film projects. The pact is between Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories production studio and Amazon MGM Studios, with the latter getting first dibs on narrative features. The agreement extends to film projects produced by Nine Stories for theatrical and streaming release. Could this contract lead to Gyllenhaal making Road House 2? Will Doug Liman return to direct after inking an iron-clad contract to release the would-be sequel in theaters? Your guess is as good as mine. I can’t imagine Liman and Amazon MGM Studios are the best of friends after the streaming-only release of Road House, but stranger things have happened.

It is not wrong to say that streaming services dominate the entertainment industry in the current digital era. It is hard not to be impressed by the numbers these platforms report, with millions of subscribers and billions of streams. Realistically speaking, though, those figures might not always be as precise as they seem.
And it seems Conor McGregor has recently found himself in a similar predicament as filmmaker Zack Snyder earlier did. Both celebrities appear to have made the same mistake of celebrating record-breaking viewership figures without fully comprehending the significance of streaming versus theatrical releases.
McGregor recently boasted about the 50 million views his reboot of the classic film Road House received on Prime Video, a popular streaming service. Snyder, on the other hand, was astounded by Netflix’s reach in comparison to traditional film studios during a two-hour interview with Joe Rogan earlier.

Despite not getting a theatrical release, Doug Liman’s Road House reboot is throwing hands on the streaming charts. According to Deadline‘s report, the hard-hitting action film starring Jake Gyllenhaal is landing decisive blows to audiences with a record-breaking 50 million global viewers in its first two weeks of release.
“The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film’s cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios. “The world is absolutely loving this entertaining, action-packed ride anchored by the performances of Jake, Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Darren Barnet, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage, Arturo Castro, Jd Pardo and the rest of our stellar cast. It’s great to see the film taking off with both fans of the iconic original as well as a huge turnout from new audiences.

After a rather dramatic road to the small screen, Road House is the new champion in the ring for Amazon MGM Studios.
Amazon says the remake of the 1989 action classic is its biggest global movie launch ever. And for the first time for a feature film, Amazon provided a viewership number, saying 50 million viewers had watched the film since it debuted March 21.
However, Amazon did not offer clarity on how it reached that number — for instance, if an account watching a minute of the movie would go toward the 50 million tally, or if it calculated a view like Netflix and Disney+, which divide the runtime of a film by the total number of viewers.

“Road House,” the Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the Patrick Swayze cult favorite, appears to be a hit on Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios, which operates the streamer, announced that the action film has attracted over 50 million worldwide viewers on the service over its first two weekends. That makes it the studio’s “most-watched produced film debut ever on a worldwide basis.”
There are a number of caveats in that statement. It’s unclear if “Road House” was more popular, for instance, than a film like “Coming 2 America,” which Amazon bought from Paramount and later debuted on Prime. The company also did not stipulate what it considers a “view” — in other words, how much of “Road House” did consumers actually watch before Amazon counted them as part of its audience? Also, “debut” is being used somewhat capaciously, with Amazon reporting the numbers after two weekends instead of one, which makes them look bigger.

Doug Liman’s reboot of the 1980s cult title Road House has clocked 50 million-plus viewers on Prime Video over its first two weekends. Amazon reports that it’s a record — beating the eyeballs of any original movie they’ve ever produced for Prime Video. The Amazon MGM Studios feature, shot with Imax cameras, dropped March 21.

James Gunn is currently shooting his Superman film which will kick off the new Dcu. The Dcu head has envisioned an elaborate plan for his new universe that fans hope will re-ignite the franchise and bring back its glory days. David Corenswet is set to play the Man of Steel and fans can’t wait for what the director has in store.

Before the shoot began, the whole cast had a table read together and Gunn posted a photo with them on his social media. It seems the grandsons of Superman’s co-creator Jerry Siegel were also present at the time and they gifted Gunn with a reprint of the first comic issue that Superman appeared in.

After facing several disappointing releases, the Dceu underwent a significant overhaul, led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. They aim to soft-reboot the entire cinematic universe. Fans hoped that some actors and characters from the Dceu would carry over to the new Dcu, but only ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Peacemaker’ are confirmed for such transitions. Gunn has additional plans for these characters and actors. Currently, multiple projects are in development for the Dcu.
One of the divisive movies in the Dceu was ‘The Suicide Squad,’ which didn’t make the cut for further development. Daniela Melchior, who played Ratcatcher 2 in the film, addressed her potential return to Gunn’s Dcu in an interview with Nestor Cine. She expressed her interest in reprising her role as Ratcatcher 2 but also mentioned she’s open to exploring other characters.

Following several unsuccessful releases, Dceu as we knew it was abandoned with James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over the soft-rebooting of the entire cinematic universe. Fans held onto hope that in some of the franchises from Dceu, actors and characters would reprise their roles in the Dcu, sadly, the only projects currently planned to make the transitions are ‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘Peacemaker’ as Gunn has further plans for both actors and their respectable characters.
Several projects are currently in development as part of the Dcu.
One of the highly polarizing movies that was released as part of the Dceu was ‘The Suicide Squad,’ also one of the franchises that didn’t make the cut. The up-and-coming actress Daniela Melchior has taken her career leaping in the entertainment industry by scoring roles in two of the industry’s most dominating franchises, i.e., the DC Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Besides these, she also scored the role of Ellie, one of the main characters in the recently released Road House remake.

In fact, she even mentioned that she is most certainly “open” to reprising her iconic role from 2021’s critically-commended masterpiece, The Suicide Squad: That of Ratcatcher 2. However, that event seems inevitably unlikely because of one of Gunn’s decisions for the DC reboot.

If the stars align, Jake Gyllenhaal could serve more knuckle sandwiches as Dalton for a potential Road House 2. The hard-hitting re-imagining of the Rowdy Herrington-directed action film grabbed viewers by the seat of their pants this past weekend, with 121.5 minutes of the new movie streamed on Prime Video, according to Luminate. While Road House director Doug Liman is perhaps not in Prime Video’s best standing after boycotting the film’s SXSW premiere (Liman eventually did attend the screening), the feature still had a successful launch. With more to the story teased in a post-credits scene, Raod House fans wonder if Gyllenhaal could return for a Road House 2. Thankfully, ScreenRant went straight to the horse’s mouth to find out if Gyllenhaal would throw more punches in a sequel.
Speaking with ScreenRant about his chances of playing Dalton in Road House 2, Gyllenhaal said, “I would love to [revisit the role]. I love the role,...

After its premiere at South by Southwest on March 8, 2024, “Road House” began streaming on Prime Video March 21 via Amazon MGM Studios. The reimagining of the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze stars Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, an ex-UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
The film directed by Doug Liman was written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. Reviews of the film have been mixed, but it currently holds fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 68%. The critics consensus reads, “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.” Supporting players in the movie include Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen and Jessica Williams. No doubt Jake Gyllenhaal took getting into ripped and shredded shape for the “Road House” remake very seriously.
“He definitely had a very strict diet going on he was very clear about,” Gyllenhaal’s castmate Hannah Love Lanier said at the film’s New York City premiere March 19. “I think one of the funniest times was when he was eating these rice paper wafer crackers. He was trying to convince everyone that they were delicious. They weren’t. They tasted like cardboard, but he was really trying to get everyone to think they were good.”
Lanier recalled watching Gyllenhaal take off his shirt when things got too hot during filming in the Dominican Republic. “There were a few times when Jake would have to take off his shirt to kind of get some of the sweat going away because you know the Dominican Republic is like a sauna out there,...

Conor McGregor is arguably the most recognized and most popular Mma and UFC fighter of all time. The Irish figure is great inside the Octagon, but outside it, he is incredible as his star power makes him incredibly marketable. Moreover, his trash-talking and the ability to sell his fights have only added to his popularity.

What’s Good: Gyllenhaal’s performance is electric, and Daniel Melchior also brings a lot to the table, their chemistry is quite satisfying to see.
What’s Bad: The film definitely feels like something that should be on streaming, from the production values to the way the story moves along.
Loo Break: The first act of a movie should be quite important but here it feels like the story doesn’t start, but on the second act, quite curious.
Watch or Not?: The film becomes a must-see only if you are a huge fan of Gyllenhaal.

After a lot of controversy and some outrage, Jake Gyllenhaal‘s Road House is finally here and it seems to be a big hit among the audience. Based on a 1989 film of the same name by Rowdy Herrington, the Prime Video film follows the story of a former UFC fighter Dalton, who is hired by the owner of a Florida Keys roadhouse to protect it from some goons. Directed by Doug Liman, Road House stars Gyllenhaal in the lead role with Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, and Jessica Williams starring in supporting roles. Road House is a very big deal in my family so I was initially concerned when a remake was announced. Thankfully, after watching the film, my worries have been cast aside as I had an absolute blast with it. (You can check out Bumbray’s review Here!) This is just as dumb and fun as the original. Sure, it lacks that 80s charm, but it’s replaced with a modern beachside aesthetic that works. And Conor McGregor is chewing so much scenery that I question how the sets were even standing by the end.

They talked about not comparing themselves with the performances from the original and trying to carve out a path for themselves. I also had to make...

I was never a fan of the original 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, and a recent rewatch didn’t change that feeling. Thus, this remake of Road House had several elements in its favor: a cast led by one of my favorite actors of today, Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), as well as the current greatest Portuguese actress, Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad); a narrative open to multiple changes for the better; and a significant cultural, technological evolution in the stunts department, which carries much more weight in today’s industry.

Remember that action flick from 1989, Road House? With its gritty actions and cool characters, especially Patrick Swayze in the lead bouncer, the movie was a big hit. And now, it has gotten a reboot! MGM and Silver Picture dropped the remake on March 8, 2024, with Doug Liman directing and starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the Swayze’s shoes.

One of UFC’s biggest stars, Conor McGregor, made his movie debut with Jake Gyllenhaal-led Doug Liman’s action thriller Road House. The remake of Rowdy Herrington’s original movie of the same name starring Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott, the new movie has something interesting— integration of UFC fight.

McGregor plays Knox, a maniac fighter, with remarkable screen presence. However, reports indicate that the Gyllenhaal-starrer movie had a different plan for the former UFC champ, which would not be what he appears to be on screen.

Road House 2, the latest iteration of the action-packed 1989 classic original, takes a bold step from its predecessor with noticeable changes to the plot. Unlike the original, there are noticeably no throat-splitting scenes in this modern adaptation.
Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2
This change may come as a disappointment to fans of the over-the-top original performances starring Patrick Swayze. Instead, the remastered version of Road House, now available to stream on Prime Video, stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, who, like Swayze’s iconic role, is tasked with restoring order to a chaotic bar plagued by nightly brawls and violence.

Road House is currently streaming on Prime Video, but the film’s director, Doug Liman, wishes audiences were watching it in theaters. According to the acclaimed filmmaker, Amazon is “giving audiences the shaft” by not hosting the film on the silver screen, and he feels as if he’s lost a public battle for the project’s worth. In a video posted by Casey Neistat, the notable YouTube sensation gets Liman’s uncensored version of the story and chronicles the director’s trip to the Road House premiere, which, adding insult to injury, takes place in a packed theater.
When Neistat and Liman meet in the room where the sound for Road House was mixed, it becomes apparent that Liman designed the film for theaters. Different studio spaces represent different mixing environments. If a movie will stream in living rooms, sound engineers mix the audio in a smaller space to replicate living room environments.

Review: So here’s the thing. I was super against the idea of remaking Road House. The original film with Patrick Swayze is, in my opinion, one of the greatest B-movies of all time and something of a staple as far as action movies go. It recently made my list of the top 25 action movies ever. Yet, the buzz surrounding Doug Liman’s remake was good, and the trailer sold me on the film 100%. Perhaps too much because I did precisely the wrong thing. I was so psyched by the trailer that I ended up drinking beer and throwing on the original Road House with friends,...

To celebrate the release of Road House, the anticipated remake of the 1980s classic, we had the pleasure of having a chat with its cast about bringing the new version to life.
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Chatting to Gyllenhaal (Dalton), Daniela Melchior (Ellie), Lukas Gage (Billy), and Billy Magnussen (Brandt), we talk about the pressures associated with any remake of a beloved film, how the tone and feel of the new thriller is much different while still paying homage to the original and its star Patrick Swayze, the intense fight choreography and preparations and more. We also test their knowledge of the “three rules” of Road House and how the influence of Family Guy is perhaps a...

Minutes into Doug Liman’s not entirely unwelcome remake, Elwood Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal), fresh off of beating several bikers into bloody, messy pulps, politely offers to drive them to a nearby hospital. Like viewers on the other side of the digital screen, the concussed, beaten-down bikers are incredulous, but the ever-polite, po-faced Dalton isn’t joking about his offer, not even in the slightest. And off they go, cramming unconformably into a too-small sedan while a Zen-like Dalton drives them to a nearby hospital. It’s the same hospital where Dalton’s soon-to-be romantic interest, Ellie, an emergency room doctor, works. It’s the punchline to a joke, of course, one of the few in Liman’s straightforward, irony-free update of Rowdy Herrington and Patrick Swayze’s gloriously...

Last month, it was reported that the 2024 “Road House” remake could have avoided a streaming debut, but Amazon gave “the filmmakers and (star Jake) Gyllenhaal” a choice: $60 million budget and theatrical; $85 million and streaming. Ultimately, the team chose the latter. At the film’s premiere in New York City on March 19, we asked star Lukas Gage his thoughts about the film going straight to Amazon Prime.
“I obviously love watching in a movie theater. Of course, it’s a little bit of a bummer,” Gage told IndieWire. “But look, if it’s going to be anywhere, if it’s going to go to any streaming, I would love to go to Amazon. I love what they do. I love Amazon Prime. Everything is changing, the industry is changing, and we kind of have to adapt to it.”

At the New York City premiere of Doug Liman’s remake of Road House on Tuesday, Conor McGregor shared with The Hollywood Reporter how Meryl Streep’s negative comments about mixed martial arts made him want to prove himself even more while starring in the film.
While accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2017 Golden Globes, Streep said, “Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. And if we kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.” Her remark was met with roaring applause, but her comments hurt athletes in the UFC, including McGregor.
“Fighting is the most beautiful form of art, and you know, it’s a great thing to come into this game, which is also art,” he said. “I was really taken aback because fighting is an art. It’s brutal also, so I can understand.

“One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it’s absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.” Those words, uttered by Patrick Swayze’s James Dalton in 1989’s Road House, are the rules to defending a roadhouse, and watching Doug Liman’s remake, you may find yourself wishing that someone had told the filmmakers that a little bit of number three goes a long way, because this nihilistic retooling of Rowdy Herrington’s cult classic is anything but.

There are some key differences between the Dalton of Rowdy Herrington’s 1989 cult classic Road House and the Dalton of Doug Liman’s equally boisterous remake. To start, the stoic bouncer’s first name is now Elwood instead of John. He rolls into town — the Florida Keys, not Kansas City — on a Greyhound bus instead of in a new car. This Dalton walks everywhere, wearing down the soles of his cigar brown combat boots with each mile. His swagger is enhanced by a mellow kindness — at one point, a character compares him to Mr. Rogers (with a violent edge, of course).
What hasn’t changed all that much are Dalton’s motivations and his notoriety. When we meet the infamous man, played here with compelling restraint by Jake Gyllenhaal, his face is shrouded by his black hoodie. He saunters into an underground fight club with a menacing determination. The camera trails him,...

In the era of action films like John Wick, the bar for adrenaline-fueled entertainment has been set high. And when it comes to remakes, there exists a fine line that must be walked between regard for the original and fresh perspectives.
Doug Liman directs the remake of the classic1989 film Road House, which premiered Friday in the Headliner category at SXSW 2024. Unfortunately, this remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal delivers a lackluster and ultimately unnecessary retread of the original Patrick Swayze-starring film.
Central to the movie is Gyllenhaal’s Dalton, a former UFC brawler grappling with his past. Struggling to get by on his reputation, Dalton catches the eye of Frankie (Jessica Williams), who owns a roadhouse in the picturesque Florida Keys. She recruits him as her new bouncer, aiming to protect her cherished establishment from a ruthless gang under the command of the local criminal overlord, Brandt (Billy Magnussen).

Director Doug Liman has always understood the power of a leading man maximized to his fullest potential. He saw the action hero beneath Matt Damon's baby fat with "The Bourne Identity" and the untapped comedic possibilities of an unshackled Tom Cruise in "Edge of Tomorrow." Now, with "Road House," his remake of the 1989 action classic of the same name, exquisite use is made of Jake Gyllenhaal, who is ferocious and ferociously funny, allowing menace and humor to lurk beneath the actor's disconcertingly chiseled frame. Gyllenhaal is an actor with boyish good looks, but eyes capable of portraying an infinite black hole of moral degradation. His take on Dalton, a desperate ex-UFC fighter who finds himself yanked into action to defend a bar from crooks in Key West, Florida, is Mr. Rogers biding his time until he turns into the Hulk. It's a hell of a performance from one hell of an actor.

The SXSW fest had origins in New York City in 1986, as it was suggested to a rock journalist in Austin, Texas, to extend a New Music Seminar that took place in NYC and make it “New Music Seminar Southwest.” That fell through, so the journalist (Roland Swanson of The Austin Chronicle) organized a local music...
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems. The film also features Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen and Post Malone.

Amazon Prime Video is releasing a remake of the '80s classic "Road House" this year, one that will star Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role (stepping in for the late Patrick Swayze). Director Doug Liman's new take on the film will be changing things up in several ways. For one, Gyllenhaal's version of Dalton will be an ex-UFC fighter. Whether or not he does any throat-ripping remains to be seen. But it sounds like the filmmakers really upped the ante in the action department as well. How so? Much like “Road House” philosopher-turned-bouncer James Dalton, Jake Gyllenhaal considers all sides to an argument.
Gyllenhaal is ready for the debut of Doug Liman’s remake of the 1989 bruiser fave, but there has been a degree of controversy about the forthcoming thriller. Liman, whose previous work includes “Go,” “The Bourne Identity” and “American Made,” has gone to war with Amazon for not releasing his “Road House” in theaters. He penned an open letter recently, and in it, Liman wrote he’d be boycotting the movie’s premiere at Austin’s SXSW festival. “Amazon is hurting way more than just me and my film. If I don’t speak up about Amazon, who will?” he wrote.
In his note, Liman laid out that he signed with MGM with the anticipation of making a theatrically released film. Amazon later bought MGM and, despite Liman’s report that the movie is testing through the roof,...
