The great question of a murder mystery show is, what do you do when the central case is solved? Only Murders in the Building had a quick answer for that, revealed in the cliffhanger ending of the first season: Add another murder on top of the first. In the second season, the oddball trio of Upper West Siders played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are tasked with figuring out who killed building busybody Bunny (Jayne Houdyshell). Their investigation leads right back to where their obsession with death began: the world of true-crime podcasts, with a vindictive assistant (Adina Verson) behind Bunny’s slaying. Now that the second season has 11 Emmy nominations, including one for outstanding comedy series, showrunner John Hoffman walks THR through his sophomore outing.

This article contains spoilers for Only Murders in the Building seasons 1 and 2.
The faith that Hulu and its parent company Disney display in Only Murders in the Building has been a refreshing change of pace considering how easily other streaming shows have been, well… murdered in recent years.
The extravagant comedic mystery, grounded by legends old (Steve Martin and Martin Short) and new (Selena Gomez) has been an amazing ride for two seasons, full of fun, danger, intrigue, and humor that has made it one of the most binge-worthy series this decade. The only thing audiences look forward to more than a new season is going back and rewatching the previous season after learning the truth. Like discovering an old 20 dollar bill in your pocket you thought long lost, the rewatchability factor of Only Murders is the little secret you thought was dead and gone, only to pop up and reward you once more.

Bust out the gut milk, Arconiacs, because “Only Murders in the Building” is back (almost). Season 3 of Hulu’s charming comedy starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez returns August 8 with a two-episode premiere and then new episodes weekly.
Season 3 also stars Paul Rudd (first seen in the Season 2 finale) and Meryl Streep (revealed on-set with the cast via social media back in spring). The trailer debuted on July 26 and showed Oliver (Short) scrambling to mount a play and resurrect his Broadway career after Rudd’s Ben Glenroy — the leading man — dropped dead on stage opening night.
“Only Murders” delivers its fair share of serpentine twists and jaw-dropping guest stars in Season 1 and 2, some of which leave a killer impression, while others may have blurred together like Charles’ (Martin) many stories from the set of “Brazzos” (and the reboot). While the show resets to some extent with each new murder and guest cast,...

“A Transparent Musical” is heading to New York and Broadway. The show, the first stage play from Amazon Studios, premiered in Los Angeles at the Mark Taper Forum in May — becoming the last show at the Taper for now, as Center Theater Group has canceled all shows at the stage following the close of “A Transparent Musical” on June 25.
But whereas the Mark Taper is on hold, “A Transparent Musical” has big things in store. According to Amazon, the show’s producers “intend to bring the show to Broadway sometime in 2024.” The musical, or course, is based on Amazon Prime Video’s Emmy-winning series “Transparent,” created by Joey Soloway, who also wrote the book to the stage musical with Mj Kaufman. Jamie Babbit has directed six episodes of “Only Murders in the Building,” including the pilot and both finales, thus far, but the Season 2 closer was unique in one very efficient way. “In filmmaking, one of the most challenging things is putting all the equipment back in the truck, moving it around New York, unpacking all of the equipment, set it up, you shoot something, and then you have to pack everything back up in New York, put it in the trucks,” Babbit tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video interview above). “So there’s something nice about having that many days in one location, where you can really focus on the performances.”
The Season 2 finale, which Babbit is submitting for the Emmys, primarily takes place in Bunny’s (Jayne Houdyshell) apartment, where Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) throw their killer reveal party — a party in...

With reigning Screen Actors Guild Awards champion “Ted Lasso” benched this cycle, the battle for the top comedy prize is absolutely no laughing matter. Right in the middle of the pack of a mix of new, buzzy series and returning favorites sits Hulu’s deviously funny ensemble comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” which returned from its freshman outing with a strong sophomore run. Will the star power of its cast help it bury its competition and win its first prize?

How about that "Only Murders in the Building" Season 2 finale?! If you thought it couldn't get any crazier, the writers take it up a notch. It was an undeniable roller coaster ride with some standout moments from everyone in the main cast. When we last saw our beloved Mabel (Selena Gomez), Oliver (Martin Short), and Charles (Steven Martin), they were in handcuffs being escorted from the lavish Arconia apartment building when it was discovered Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), president of the board, had been brutally murdered and discovered in Mabel's apartment.
That set up quite the predicament for our little trio of crime podcasters. With a new murder to solve, the stakes couldn't be higher, and it becomes a race against time, Detective Williams and her team, and Cinda Canning's (Tina Fey) rival investigation. New and exciting characters were introduced, including Alice Banks (Cara Delevingne), a self-proclaimed rich girl and art gallery owner,...

[Editor’s note: This article includes spoilers and the reveal of the killer from this season of “Only Murders in the Building.”]
This season of Hulu’s whodunit “Only Murders in the Building” offered up a bevy of potential murder suspects, including Amy Schumer. But in order to find out who killed Arconia owner Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), the audience had to go back to the beginning and the podcast that brought Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) together in the first place: “Not Okay in Oklahoma.”
In a finale that played like a modernized take on the 1930s crime caper “The Thin Man” — complete with a fake murder — the audience discovered it was podcast creator Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) assistant Poppy (Adina Verson), aka “Not Okay” crime subject Becky Butler, who killed Bunny. The reveal did a great job of tying Seasons 1 and 2 together, as well as giving the beleaguered podcast assistant a chance to tell her story.

This article includes spoilers for the season 2 finale of "Only Murders in the Building."
After 10 episodes of wild red herrings and carefully studied clues, the second season of "Only Murders in the Building" came to a close this week with a wonderfully over-the-top finale. The season's penultimate episode ended with what felt like a case-closed revelation: that NPR-like podcast host Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) was responsible for the death of poor Arconia president Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), with her crooked cop boyfriend Kreps (Michael Rapaport) by her side.
Only, that revelation was actually one last misdirect. Instead, the finale threw down a hilariously complex reverse card complete with a live podcast recording and Charles' (Steve Martin) surprisingly convincing fake murder. The real killer was revealed to be Cinda's undervalued assistant Poppy, who was really Becky Butler, the missing victim from Cinda's popular podcast. Poppy is played by Adina Verson,...

Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building concluded its second season on Tuesday with a murder reveal party to rival any other before it—even if there wasn’t cake.
But let’s start at the beginning.
Since Season 2 premiered, there was quite a lot of attention focused on Poppy (Adina Verson), who even this season, was mostly a secondary character. Poppy is Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) assistant who was behind much of Cinda’s success as a true-crime podcaster.
But there was more than meets the eye as it pertains to shy and introverted Poppy, as it were. To begin, Poppy wasn’t even her real name. She was born Becky Butler, a small-town girl from Chickasha, Oklahoma who worked for the local mayor. Becky was treated poorly...

Spoiler alert: This article discusses the Season 2 finale of “Only Murders in the Building” — “I Know Who Did It.”
The goal was always to hand back the investigation of Bunny Folger’s murder to the Arconia trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), according to “Only Murders in the Building” showrunner John Hoffman. After the disorientation of the season, which saw them all publicly implicated in the former board president’s killing, the executive producer and co-creator’s aim was to restore agency to the spun-around group.
“’Go get ‘em once you know how to do it,’ — the notion is to hand it to them in a way that they would present their case enough to unravel and ensnare the actual killer in their own fashion,” Hoffman told TheWrap in a postmortem interview about the Hulu show. “And it was very inspired by Agatha Christie...

This article contains spoilers for the Only Murders in the Building season 2 finale.
After 10 more episodes, gallons of Gut Milk, many obscenities sent between Oliver (Martin Short) and Mrs. Gambolini, and wholly unique title sequences, Only Murders in the Building has discovered its true suspect for a second time.
Much like in the first season, there were a lot of moving parts, and it takes some true sleuthing to figure out the answer to the mystery. We’ll help you go step-by-step so you can understand how the murderer was discovered, what their motivations were, and where the characters are going to go from here.
Who killed Bunny Folger?
After much theorizing, we can put all of our predictions to rest. If you had Poppy White (Adina Verson) as Bunny Folger’s (Jane Houdyshell) murderer, you were correct. In fact, Poppy has been instrumental in multiple mysteries in this universe.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not seen “I Know Who Did It,” the Season 2 finale of “Only Murders in the Building.”
The Season 2 finale of “Only Murders in the Building” steps out of the building … and into the theater.
Season 2 sees true crime enthusiasts-turned-podcasters Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) investigate the murder of Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell) while trying to clear their own names, as the entire city of New York is confident that they’re the culprits.
Charles, Oliver and Mabel identify suspects aplenty. There’s Alice (Cara Delevigne), an artist whose romantic interest in Mabel devolves into an obsession with Mabel’s traumatic past. There’s Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport), who’s just a little too excited to put the trio behind bars and accidentally reveals his mysterious ties to Bunny’s case after a run-in with a glitter bomb.

One of the biggest and most unlikely success stories of the last 12 months of new television has been the Hulu crime comedy "Only Murders in the Building." Bringing together an unlikely trio -- comic legends and best friends Steve Martin and Martin Short, along with acting/singing star Selena Gomez -- as a trio of true-crime fans who start solving murders of their own, "Only Murders in the Building" is an enormously funny, clever, and smart show that wraps up its second 10-episode season today.
As the show approaches its first Emmys ceremony, /Film spoke with co-creator John Hoffman to look back at its surprising second season and what the finale's tease for a third season may portend.
(Note: This interview includes spoilers for the entire second season of "Only Murders in the Building," including its finale, so if you haven't watched yet, consider yourself warned.)

Well, folks, we've arrived at the season 2 finale of Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building." The second season's final episode has a perfectly fitting title for one in which the mystery of the death of Bunny Folger will finally be revealed: "I Know Who Did It." Now, as we enter the finale, just keep in mind where we left off: though we know that Detective Kreps (Michael Rapaport) is Glitter Guy, the black-clad person who was lured into an NYC park to grab some so-called evidence connected to Bunny's death, he's not the sole person involved and the previous episode implied heavily that he was in cahoots with A-list podcaster Cinda Canning (Tina Fey). Why's that? Well, because Becky Butler, the presumed-dead woman at the heart of Cinda's biggest podcast hit, "All is Not Ok in Oklahoma," is not only alive and well but is apparently Cinda's assistant Poppy (Adina Verson), in disguise.

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Episode 10
The solution to a murder mystery is always incredible stuff if done well. With all of the pieces of evidence in hand, viewers and characters alike can solve the who-dun-it once and for all. When it comes to Only Murders in the Building, there’s so many items to check off the list it can get a little confusing where one plot thread ends and another begins. But just like in the first season, the team of writers behind this show does a fantastic job at settling scores and displaying what the motivations are for each character, including the murderer.
This second season has been a lot harder to get a grasp on who the murderer is going to be. And unlike last season when it was revealed Jan (Amy Ryan) was the killer,...

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Episode 9
The sheer amount of storylines this season on Only Murders in the Building has made it somewhat difficult to follow along and tie everything together. Each week there seems to be something new to focus on, a different character thrown into the spotlight, or a cliffhanger that is ignored for several episodes. This forces the audience to not only be patient, but think closely about every single plot line that is shown. We must pay close attention and decide if each item is going to cause a butterfly effect down the line.
As the penultimate episode in the season, “Sparring Partners” is finally able to close a few of the many mysteries that have been collected throughout the season and have been put on the backburner for later. It sets up anticipation for the finale in fine fashion,...

Editor’s Note: This article will discuss spoilers for the first six episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2.
The arrival of “Only Murders in the Building” Episode 6 brings us over halfway through the season. And while there are three more episodes to make an argument for a killer, odds are you have your theories. Like last season, some characters seem like obvious red herrings (Alice?). Maybe it’s a character we’ve known for years, like cat-lover Howard Morris. It can’t be Amy Schumer playing herself, could it?
Let’s look back at the season so far and see where we stand on who killed Arconia owner Bunny Folger.
1. Alice
Alice (Cara Delevingne) feels like the biggest red herring in the bunch, especially after last week’s episode where Oliver (Martin Short) revealed all her lies about being a wealthy rich kid. But at the end of...

Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Episode 6
As we start the second half of the season 2, we still aren’t any closer to finding out who Bunny’s killer is. Only Murders in the Building loves to stretch the mystery out and give you as many seemingly-random clues as possible, but this second season seems to be taking that strategy even further than the first.
Each episode seems more like a stand-alone snippet into the lives of these intriguing characters, and the writers’ desire to combine bit roles from the show’s past along with introducing new ones makes for somewhat of an overwhelming viewing experience.
In “Performance Review”, we are introduced to another new point of view from a character who has been used sparingly up to this point in the show. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel loved to follow the...

An unauthorized dramatization of the lives of David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen will be staged off-Broadway in New York City next year. Eddie and Dave will open at the Atlantic Theater Company – which launched the Tony Award–winning The Band’s Visit – on January 10th and run through February 10th. The production carefully avoids using the Van Halen name, likely to avoid a lawsuit as Ultimate Classic Rock reports, but it hints at the band: the key art presents the musicians’ hair as it looked in the early Eighties.
