Hartford, Connecticut—Welcome to 90s Con, where the Nineties live on. The decade where all that glitters is gold. Fans of 1990s pop culture have made the pilgrimage here on an arctic March day for a weekend of time travel, transforming the Connecticut Convention Center into a pastel love-fest. Reality? Adulthood? The passage of time? As a great woman once said: As if.
Outside these walls, the years start coming, and they don’t stop coming. But in here, the Nineties dream lives forever. The place is packed with stars.

A newThe Big Bang Theory book reveals the actors who almost took Kaley Cuoco’s place in the series.
It was previously revealed that Cuoco originally tried out for the role of a character named Katie, who would have been worlds away from Penny. Cuoco did not get the role.
Speaking in Jessica Radloff’s book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Cuoco said: “I know Chuck [Lorre, the show’s co-creator] really wanted me for the role of Katie, and I was definitely bummed when I didn’t get it,” Cuoco told Radloff.
The book reveals that four actors almost won the role instead: Marisa Tomei, Tara Reid, Elizabeth Berkeley and Jodi Lynn O’Keefe.
Co=creator Bill Prady said that Berkeley especially had a ”terrific” audition, but it was O’Keefe who won the role. However, she got fired 30 minutes after the first table read with the cast.

The Bayside gang is reuniting, but Zack Morris isn’t invited — for the time being, at least.
Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played the good-looking yet incorrigible Zack in NBC’s beloved “Saved by the Bell” series, said he was never approached to take part in the show’s forthcoming TV sequel, which will reprise roles from Mario Lopez and and Elizabeth Berkley.
“I read it in the trades just like everybody else this morning,” Gosselaar told Variety on the “Mixed-ish” premiere red carpet Monday night. “Honestly, I was never approached. I woke up to the news this morning with a kind of ‘huh’ response.”
Although he said he would definitely consider reprising the lovable character, he does understand why NBC never reached out. Gosselaar now stars in “Mixed-ish” on ABC, which poses competition against NBCUniversal’s newly named streaming service Peacock.

It’s a shame that “You Don’t Nomi,” a new documentary about the failure and reevaluation of Paul Verhoeven’s 1995 pulp film “Showgirls,” doesn’t live up to its truly inspired title. A play on the movie’s enigmatic, beguiling, and totally unhinged protagonist Nomi Malone, played by Elizabeth Berkeley in a career-defining (and -ending) role, the title calls to mind Lesley Gore’s 1963 classic “You Don’t Own Me” — a connection that amuses at first glance, but becomes quite tenuous once you think about it. The same could be said for “You Don’t Nomi.”
For the uninitiated, “Showgirls” follows a young Nomi Malone as she arrives in Las Vegas with dreams of becoming a dancer. Fresh off the success of “Basic Instinct,” Verhoeven attracted top-tier talent of the era like Kyle MacLachlan and Gina Gershon, both of whom thought they were signing onto a grittier, more daring “Basic Instinct.

Selma Blair’s emotional reveal on Instagram this weekend that she was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis included her thanking the cast and crew of her new Netflix original series Another Life for helping her as she copes with the disease.
The post Saturday included a selfie of Blair during a wardrobe fitting for the series with costumer Allison Swanson.
“The brilliant costumer #Allisaswanson not only designs the pieces #harperglass will wear on this new #Netflix show, but she carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself,” Blair posted. “I have #multiplesclerosis. I am in an exacerbation.”
She added: “By the grace of the lord, and will power and the understanding producers at Netflix, I have a job. A wonderful job. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And...

If the first time you ever heard the name “Versace” was in “Showgirls,” know that you might have missed a key layer of meaning behind the joke.
In the 1995 Paul Verhoeven film, young stripper Nomi (Elizabeth Berkeley) finds herself with some extra cash, so she buys a tight short dress from a Versace shop on the Las Vegas strip. You might think that the point of the bit is that Nomi reveals her trashy roots when she pronounces the name of the brand as “Ver-sase,” as opposed to its proper pronunciation of “Ver-sa-che.”
But according to “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” showrunner Tom Rob Smith, it goes far deeper than that. “It’s not that someone classy doesn’t know it’s ‘Ver-sa-che,'” he told IndieWire. “Because that person wouldn’t be wearing Versace.”

Early 90s nostalgia ahoy! Seb counts down the top ten episodes of Peter Engel's teen sitcom, Saved By The Bell...
Ah, Saved By The Bell. The very words will instil one of two feelings in you: a slightly ashamed but fervent sense of childhood-based nostalgic joy; or a bitter, cynical lament over what used to pass for entertainment in the early 90s. Whichever side you're on, however, you may be surprised to learn that there's actually a decent amount of fun to be had in rattling through a boxset of NBC and uber-producer Peter Engel's impossibly glossy, unfathomably cheesy teen sitcom.
With the classic show set for a reboot at Peacock (along with Battlestar Galactica and Punky Brewster), NBCUniversal's upcoming streaming subscription service, we're looking back on the ten best episodes of Saved By the Bell. We'd never claim that a "ten best episodes" list...
