Gibbs, Manny Jacinto, Ayden Mayeri, Thomas Mann, Chrissie Fit, Andre Hyland, Margaret Cho, with Chelsea Peretti and Darrell Hammond. This looks light and screwy and funny. Anyone who’s watched a few episodes of HBO’s excellent, very funny Hacks has already been exposed to the comedic wrecking ball style of Megan Stalter, who manages to steal pretty much every scene she shows up in as devotedly incompetent agents’ assistant/boss’ daughter Kayla.

Meg Stalter is taking the lead in her latest feature “Cora Bora.”
The comedy, which premiered at the 2023 SXSW Festival, stars the “Hacks” breakout actress as the titular musician who goes home to win back her girlfriend only to realize it’s much more than her love life that needs salvaging.
Hannah Pearl Utt directs the comedy from a script by Rhianon Jones. The cast includes Jojo T. Gibbs, Manny Jacinto, Ayden Mayeri, Thomas Mann, Chrissie Fit, Andre Hyland, Margaret Cho, Chelsea Peretti, and Darrell Hammond. The film features original music and a score composed by indie artist Miya Folick.
“I’m thrilled for audiences to get to see Meg in a leading role and to fall for her character the way I have,” director Utt said in a press statement.
The IndieWire review called Stalter a “whirlwind and a universe unto herself” who boasts “her unique brand of uncomfortably confident loser” onscreen.

In the latest feature from Luc Besson, a young man seeks revenge in an original fashion. Caleb Landry Jones is fantastic as the DogMan. As ‘Douglas Munroe,’ the actor is given the chance to take on the role fearlessly. The story revolves around a man who was horribly abused. His love and appreciation of dogs follows him into his adult years, leaving him angry at the world around him. And thankfully, he trains man’s best friend to take care of other, not-so-nice, people in his life. The film also stars Jojo T. Gibbs and the two are terrific together.
Recently, we spoke with Caleb Landry Jones and Jojo T. Gibbs about the film. Caleb opened up about working with Luc Besson and taking on such a powerful role. For Ms. Gibbs, she discussed working with Caleb and both of the two seemingly found inspiration working off of each other.

Nick Offerman plays the Potus in the dystopian action film Civil War, but although some liken his character to Donald Trump, the actor didn’t think about him during filming.
“Honestly, no,” Offerman told Deadline during the film’s premiere. “When you see the movie, it’s so unattached to anything in modern politics, not only in our country but any country. It’s like doing a play where I’m playing a baseball player, and people say, ‘Did you ever think of your favorite team, the Cubs?’ And I say, ‘No, it’s a brilliant piece of fiction.'”
He continued, “From the get-go, it clearly wasn’t based on anything in reality, and so, that’s a distraction, and my job is to immediately say, ‘Who is this guy? And how can I best serve Alex [Garland’s] vision.'”

After a successful premiere in March, Alex Garland’s upcoming dystopian action thriller Civil War is preparing for its April 12, 2024 theatrical release. The movie promises to be a very interesting take on a (not so) alternative America, plagued by a civil war between the separatist “Western Forces” led by Texas and California and the government. This “Second American Civil War” will be shown through the eyes of a journalist who travels around the country, experiencing the horrors of war.
The official synopsis for the movie describes the plot as follows: “A journey across a dystopian future America, following a team of military-embedded journalists as they race against time to reach DC before rebel factions descend upon the White House.”
The movie has some big names attached to the project, as many fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming premiere. The cast of the movie includes:

"They're risking their lives to show the world what happened." A24 has revealed a new behind-the-scenes featurette for Alex Garland's Civil War movie, his next new action thriller arriving in theaters in April. It's about a fictional (or not?) civil war in America following a crew of photojournalists on a "road trip" around America. After the two previous trailers for this movie, this preview finally reveals that it's actually about the journalists and really focused on them, not the details of the civil war and/or why it's happening. Still not so sure about this concept right now. "It felt immersive and it felt incredibly real, and it was chilling." The excellent ensemble cast for Garland's Civil War includes Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, Jess Matney, plus Jesse Plemons. It is a better "come watch this movie" promo than the other trailers,...

On a cinematically rainy night, a truck packed with dogs is pulled over by the cops. The driver is Marilyn Monroe in the famous getup from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The pink, the wig and the makeup ruined by blood. At the station, the driver, a wheelchair-using fellow named Douglas Munrow (Caleb Landry Jones), is visited by police psychologist Evelyn (Jojo T. Gibbs), a single mother who has her own history with violence. Douglas starts telling his story. The narrative jumps back and forth, between the present and the non-linear past that holds so many things: an abusive family, Shakespeare, unrequited love, crafty heists, drag artists and chili. Most of all, it holds a lot of pain. And dogs. So many dogs. Let’s get it out...

Chicago – In one of the more unusual film releases of late, Caleb Landry Jones and Jojo T. Gibbs are the feature lead actors in “Dogman,” opening in Chicago on March 29th and wider on April 5th. "Dogs have a real sense of family. So they rally around in the bad times and form a solid united entity." Briarcliff Ent. has revealed the official US trailer for Luc Besson's movie DogMan, which first premiered last year at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. This was supposed to open earlier in 2023, then they held it for the festival premiere, and it opened in Europe quickly after. "Wherever there is an unfortunate, God sends a dog." DogMan tells the incredible story of a child – bruised by life – who will find his salvation through the love of his dogs. Caleb Landry Jones stars as its fragile yet resilient protagonist who bends societal rules as he makes his own way. The film has "an edgy, indie feel reminiscent of Besson's debut feature Subway" and his other early films like The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, & Leon. The cast also includes Christopher Denham,...

Luc Besson’s DogMan has received another trailer ahead of its release next month, capping off a journey that also saw the film competing for the Golden Lion at last year’s Venice Film Festival.
DogMan is writer/director Besson’s first film since 2019’s Anna and one that has built the most buzz in quite some time. The cast features Caleb Landry Jones, who was remarkable in 2021’s Nitram, and Jojo T. Gibbs, who appears in Past Lives, which is up for Best Picture this year. They are joined by Christopher Denham (Oppenheimer) and Clemens Shick (Star Wars series Andor).
Here is the synopsis of DogMan: “Having just been arrested, Douglas opens his heart to tell the moving story of his life. As a survivor of childhood trauma, with a violent father who forces him to live in the family kennel, he develops a bond with dogs that defies understanding.

Caleb Landry Jones is “DogMan,” whatever that moniker means.
The indie actor, who has appeared in the acclaimed likes of “Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri” and “Nitram,” leads controversial French director Luc Besson’s latest feature. Per the elusive logline, “DogMan” tells the story of a man who, following a traumatic childhood, finds salvation and justice through his connection with dogs.
Yet, there’s more to the twisted crime thriller than just that: Jones plays Douglas Munrow, a victim of childhood abuse who relives his past while being interviewed by a psychiatrist (Jojo T. Gibbs) after Douglas is accused of murder. Turns out Douglas’ childhood was far from fetching, with his only source of love being the dogs his father (Clemens Schick) would lock him in cages with.
As an adult, Douglas balances performing in drag as iconic stars like Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, and Marilyn Monroe with a crime spree.

"You don't know what side they're fighting for..." This looks scary. A24 has unveiled the second trailer for Alex Garland's Civil War, his next new action thriller movie arriving in theaters this April. This trailer confirms - we really don't need this movie right now. This is the fourth film Garland has directed, following Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Men. The actual plot is still being kept a secret but it's obvious what is going on here - mainly that it's about a civil war in a near-future America. The excellent ensemble cast for Garland's Civil War film features Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, Jess Matney, plus Jesse Plemons. I really think this is a misguided, harmful movie that is glorifying the action that will happen in a civil war rather than being a movie trying to stop America from going this direction.

Praise the bladder gods! Alex Garland’s Civil War will be shorter than previously rumored. As it turns out, IMDb posted an incorrect runtime for the upcoming (and all too timely) film. So, that rumor about Garland’s Civil War being 3 hours and 15 minutes long? False. The correct runtime is 109 minutes, A24 confirms. If you still have the receipt for the adult diapers you bought in anticipation of the film, now’s your chance to get your money back.
Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, Jess Matney, and Jesse Plemons star as primary cast members in Garland’s latest epic, Civil War, about a nation divided and collapsing in on itself. Today, A24 debuted a Civil War trailer that hits a little too close to home when the United States feels about reaching its boiling point.

As a survivor of childhood trauma, with a violent father who forces him to live in the family kennel, he develops a bond with dogs that defies understanding. Out of this hell, he grows to discover love, theatre, and cabaret, but also the injustice and disillusionment of the human world. In a life that’s been broken a thousand times, only the love of his dogs can bring salvation.
Virginie Besson-Silla and Steve Rabineau serve as producers.

"What kind of American are you?" Here we go! A24 has unveiled the first official trailer for Alex Garland's Civil War, his next highly anticipated action thriller movie arriving in theaters April 2024. This is the fourth film he has directed, following Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Men. The plot has been kept a secret for the entire production, with little details revealed now - mainly that it's about a civil war in a near-future America. But this is from the sci-fi master Alex Garland, so there must be more implications and ideas here than just - this is what modern civil war will look like. The excellent ensemble cast for Garland's Civil War film features Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, and Jess Matney. This looks much more harrowing and intense than expected, way more of an actual depiction of...

Alex Garland, the director of Ex Machina, Annihilation, Men, and Devs, is back with what could be his most intense film to date. Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. In today’s Civil War trailer, 19 states have seceded from the United States, with factions forming in the West and Florida. Meanwhile, the President says the conflict will be dealt with swiftly, but are things already impossible to control? While some choose to engage with the catastrophe head-on, others prefer to pretend like it’s not happening right outside their door.

The 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival concludes today with the Closing Ceremony and presentation of the winners of the Lions. Director Yorgos Lanthimos took home the coveted Golden Lion for his film Poor Things, while Cailee Spaeny was honored as Best Actress for her performance in Priscilla, and Peter Sarsgaard received the Best Actor award for Memory.

Too bombastic for the French establishment and too idiosyncratic to ever go full Hollywood, Luc Besson once charted an impressive middle ground on the international scene.
At his 1990s peak, the action auteur riffed and danced around the blockbuster formula, delivering genre potboilers so perverse (in the case of 1994’s “Leon: The Professional”) or uncanny (as with 1997’s “The Fifth Element”) as to stand noticeably apart from your standard studio offering and, in the process, Besson built for himself an empire. Beset with legal and financial problems the French director’s star has dimmed in the past decade, but his hunger clearly has not.
Which brings us to “Dogman.” Premiering in competition at the Venice Film Festival, the project marks a splashy comeback of sorts for the beleaguered filmmaker, just recently acquitted of sexual assault charges, and an impassioned argument that his erstwhile model still has some juice. That could very well be the case,...

Luc Besson’s Dogman had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday night, scoring a nearly six-minute standing ovation from the crowd inside the Palazzo del Cinema.
Caleb Landry Jones stars in the Bessonian action thriller, which already has gotten a rave review from Deadline. He was in attendance along with co-star Jojo T. Gibbs.
The film marked Besson’s comeback movie of sorts, coming after a past few years that included the disappointment of his 2017 tentpole Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the demise of his French studio EuropaCorp and a long-running legal entanglement relating to a rape allegation, of which he was recently cleared.

“Dogman” director Luc Besson might be a newcomer to Venice, but following his film’s warm reception on Thursday, he’s likely to come back.
Though Besson’s Golden Lion contender polarized critics, with Variety’s Jessica Kiang sparing few words by calling it a “numbskulled nonsense movie,” audience members at the film’s gala premiere opted to spread the love at its world premiere, showering the film and filmmakers with six minutes of sustained applause. That tied the six-minute ovation Venice audiences gave Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” earlier in the evening on the second night of the prestigious festival.
If Besson offered no closing thoughts, the director nevertheless appeared visibly moved, beaming under the spotlight and embracing his cast with bear hugs. Besson shared a particularly tender moment with star Caleb Landry Jones, with whom he developed and honed the central role over the course of a full year before the cameras ever rolled.

Luc Besson let the dogs out in Venice Thursday night, premiering his potential comeback vehicle, Dogman. Besson and the cast were showered with howls of approval from the audience.
The cast, including lead Caleb Landry Jones, Jojo T Gibbs and Clemens Schick, were visibly moved by the response to the film, with the audience rising to their feet for a good six minutes. Jones stood up, undid his braid and shook his hair out, before taking off his bow tie, looking relieved. Besson embraced his cast before returning to his seat, wiping away tears.
Besson’s 21st feature, which sold widely ahead of its Venice debut, is being closely watched as a possible return to directorial form for the maker of Lucy and The Fifth Element. Whatever one may think of Luc Besson’s oeuvre, his films work best when they live up to their trashy potential. The director’s cinema is littered with all-out demented interludes and comic-book exaggerations. Think of Rihanna quoting Paul Verlaine’s poem “A Poor Young Shepherd” while gyrating on a stripper pole in his intergalactic romp Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets; or, more recently, Russian supermodel Sasha Luss mowing down throngs of thugs inside a restaurant in Anna. Besson’s always been particularly fluent in the art of the unreal, and Dogman, his latest, is engineered as one such tale: a pulpy story of an outcast who turns a whole pack of dogs into loyal allies in his fight against injustice. But the film never owns up to its deranged premise, and a staid, predetermined script sands off its most shamelessly ridiculous moments––the only moments when Dogman truly comes to life.

Luc Besson’s Dogman is a superhero movie in search of a comic book, which makes a refreshing change amid the summer’s raft of DC disappointments. It skews a little close to Todd Phillips’ Golden Lion winner Joker in terms of weirdness and (especially) wardrobe, but it also offers the perfect showcase for star Caleb Landry Jones, who imbues a boisterously insane action thriller with heart and soul in what must surely be a career-high performance. Which is no mean feat for an actor whose work has always been excellent and has so often gone under the radar.
There is nothing remotely under-the-radar about Dogman, which fuses movies as diverse as Flawless and Willard with Besson’s trademark, anything-goes approach to genre. Besson’s films don’t always work — for every Léon there is a Lucy — but somehow it pulls together here as, pun intended, a shaggy-dog story spin by its hero.

Check under most any post relating to the recently released trailer for Luc Besson’s “Dogman,” and you’ll find one, if not several responses riffing, to various degrees of enthusiasm, on the theme of “Omg, what if ‘Joker’ but with dogs?” That rhetorical question can now be answered, following this numbskulled nonsense movie’s inexplicable Venice Competition premiere, with a resounding “If only.” The bludgeoningly obvious, creatively inert, deathly dull tale of a cross-dressing misfit in a wheelchair who favors canine company over that of humans, it is scarcely fit to lap from the same water bowl as Todd Phillips’ controversial Golden Lion winner. Even those who didn’t much like “Joker” have to admit that it did not actively treat its audience as if they were so brain-dead that everyone left feeling about 30 Iq points dumber than when they went in.

No animals were harmed in the making of Luc Besson’s new thriller, Dogman, but plenty of people get mauled, bitten, robbed and attacked, and one guy has his junk put into a serious vice grip, by a pack of extremely well-trained canines.
That being said, the director’s first film since his 2019 femme-driven assasin flick, Anna, is actually one of his least violent movies to date when it comes to bullets and bodies depicted on screen. If there’s violence, it’s predominantly of the domestic and psychological kind, in a story that follows a young man whose childhood traumas transform him into a very unusual sort of superhero: a paralyzed vigilante who dresses in drag, performs incredible lip-syncs of classic European ballads, and rules over a small, fierce army of obedient pups, as if the Joker and Ace Ventura were somehow merged into a single character. Also, he lives in New Jersey.

Caleb Landry Jones graduates from menacing oddball character actor to sympathetic show-stopping lead in Luc Besson’s “Dogman.” But the French genre filmmaker’s first feature effort since 2019 assassin thriller “Anna” — and his second since 2017’s catastrophic space opera “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” — unfortunately doesn’t deliver the goods to match Landry Jones’ giddily unrestrained turn as a traumatized dog collector turned drag cabaret act turned … well-heeled shooter and avenger of capitalist greed and domestic abuse?
That’s nothing against the 33-year-old American actor’s Method-level dedication to the role. Landry Jones has stamped himself as indie film’s consummate weirdo, playing charmingly raffish outsiders or scary psychos. His Douglas in “Dogman” is a little bit of both,...

An emotional Luc Besson and his actors Caleb Landry Jones and Jojo T. Gibbs got a rapturous reception at the press conference for their Venice Film Festival movie DogMan.
The filmmaker and lead Landry Jones were applauded on multiple occasions, with one journalist moved to tears when asking her question.
The film is being billed by some as a comeback movie for Fifth Element, Lucy and Leon director Besson who has had a tumultuous five years after the high-profile box office failure of Valerian, the demise of his French studio EuropaCorp and a long-running legal entanglement relating to a rape allegation, of which he was recently cleared.
“The only two things that can save you are love and art, definitely not money. When you have both you’re lucky,” the filmmaker told the audience.
At one stage, the director thanked his actors and producer wife Virginie Besson-Silla before himself fighting back tears.

If a film festival falls in the middle of a strike, will anyone come? What could have been a purely philosophical question has become a stark reality for the 80th Biennale, which, despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, is still hoping to pack its red carpet with A-list celebrities.
Several hot-ticket titles in Venice this year, including Michael Mann’s Ferrari starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz, and Luc Besson’s Dogman with Caleb Landry Jones, have secured interim agreement waivers from SAG-AFTRA to allow affiliated talent to do promotion and publicity at the festival. And the actors union last week explicitly encouraged its members to promote approved projects, as a way to support the indie industry. Films from the streamers or the studios, so-called “struck productions,” cannot get interim agreement waivers from the unions.
Waiver or not, however, it remains to be seen if the talent will actually show up.

Exclusive: There has been mystery for weeks over which Hollywood talent will attend the Venice Film Festival amid the two strikes but the clouds are finally starting to lift.
We’ve confirmed with sources that Ferrari star Adam Driver will be on the Lido next week to promote Michael Mann’s anticipated new movie, thus becoming the biggest U.S. actor to date to commit to the festival. The Daily Mail first reported that news.
Ferrari secured an interim agreement from SAG a while back so this isn’t hugely surprising but there was still a question over whether SAG actors would feel uncomfortable over the ‘optics’. They may still. But SAG-AFTRA leadership were adamant yesterday that actors in movies with interim agreements should be at festivals to promote them. Their message: this is helpful to independent cinema and the cause. That affirmation from SAG helped a number of actors make up their minds.

Luc Besson’s latest movie “DogMan” has signed SAG-AFTRA’s interim agreement, giving it the green light to promote the film during its premiere at the upcoming Venice Film Festival.
While it’s not the first such independent movie to sign the interim agreement for promotional purposes, it’s the first among movies due to premiere at the fall film festivals, of which many will be looking to have their stars hit the Lido or Toronto next month.
It’s unclear whether stars from “DogMan” will be on hand, but the film stars Caleb Landry Jones and Jojo T. Gibbs.
The film’s presence on the fall festival circuit is also a controversial one after Besson was recently cleared of all rape charges in a court case dating back to 2018, in which the director was accused of raping Dutch-Belgian actress Sand van Roy.

Luc Besson’s DogMan has become one of the first films to receive a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement that will allow talent to do press during the fall festival season. Actors will be allowed to promote the pic at its Venice Film Festival premiere.
Given how early it is in process, there are no confirmations of who will be in attendance for the premiere but the cast includes Caleb Landry Jones, Christopher Denham, Jojo T. Gibbs and Marisa Berenson.
Following the announcements of the films that would premiere at the Venice and Toronto festivals, many in the industry wondered whether films without AMPTP studios backing them would be given these agreements allowing them to do press during festivals, so this is a good sign you will see more interim deals allowing promotion. DogMan was independently financed and currently has no major distributor, so it would follow under the guidelines that SAG-AFTRA...

Luc Besson is back in the director’s chair.
The French filmmaker, who was recently cleared of all charges in a 2018 rape case, helms upcoming drama “DogMan” which will premiere during this year’s fall festival circuit. “DogMan” is described as an incredible story of a child, bruised by life, who finds his salvation through the love of his dogs. The feature is Besson’s latest film since 2019’s “Anna.”
Caleb Landry Jones plays Douglas, a man who was abused as a child by his father and found solace in the friendship of dogs. Douglas later transitions to a woman and further explores his love of canines. Jojo T. Gibbs also stars alongside Cannes Best Actor winner Jones, who took home the prize in 2021 for “Nitram.”
Director Besson wrote “DogMan” and is producing the film under his Lbp EuropaCorp banner. Paris-based Kinology will handle international market sales, with Apollo Films releasing the film in France.

"As far as I can tell, they only have one flaw: they trust humans." EuropaCorp has revealed the trailer for Luc Besson's new film DogMan, which is set to debut later this year at the fall film festivals. Apparently this was supposed to open in France in April but they delayed it because reactions from the EFM at Berlinale were great. "Wherever there is an unfortunate, God sends a dog." –Lamartine. DogMan tells the incredible story of a child – bruised by life – who will find his salvation through the love of his dogs. Caleb Landry Jones stars as its fragile yet resilient protagonist who bends societal rules as he makes his own way. The film is said to have "an edgy, indie feel reminiscent of Besson's debut feature Subway" and his other early films like The Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, and Leon. The cast includes Christopher Denham, Marisa Berenson,...
