It feels like we’re all sleeping on Supacell a bit. This new Netflix superhero series was first announced back in November 2021, has a super-strong cast, and has been filming since summer 2022, but there’s very little news about it. It doesn’t even have its own Wikipedia page yet.
Let’s put that right and get better acquainted with this fresh upcoming British superhero drama that could rival the likes of Misfits and Extraordinary:
Supacell Was Created By Pioneering Rapper-Turned-Filmmaker Rapman
Impressively, Rapman – real name Andrew Onwubolu – is only 33 but already has an MBE for services to drama and music. He’s known for dealing with socially conscious themes like suicide, blood donors, and domestic abuse.
You’ll most likely know Rapman for Blue Story, his critically-acclaimed 2019 film, told through the medium of rap, which starred Karla Simone-Spence (The Confessions of Frannie Langton) and Top Boy’s Michael Ward,...

The American legal system is an enormous, ancient beast filled with so many contradictions, vestigial traditions, and internal biases that sometimes only an outsider can really make sense of it.
At least that’s what AMC is hoping with the arrival of 61st Street, the latest TV legal drama from British lawyer-turned screenwriter Peter Moffat. Moffat is well-known to U.K. audiences through modern law and order sagas like North Square, Criminal Justice, and Silk. In 2020, Moffat took his first crack at unwinding the American judicial system with the Showtime series Your Honor, which starred Bryan Cranston as a New Orleans judge faced with an impossible decision. Now, Moffat is tackling American justice from a different perspective – namely the mostly Black working class folks it tends to crush in its burdensome cogs.

A scene that did not appear in New Year’s Day’s Doctor Who Special, ‘Revolution of the Daleks’.
Scene: Ext. 10 Downing Street, A Press Conference Is Being Held
Prime Minister Jo Patterson: …and so I introduce to you, our new, fully automated defence drones!
A “Defence Drone” Glides Into View.
Journalist (Raises A Hand): Hello, Jeff Typeface, Daily Exposition. Sorry but, um, isn’t that just a Dalek?
Pm: A what?
Journalist: A Dalek? About twelve years ago they transported the entire planet through space then rounded humans up in the streets and exterminated them?
Pm: Hmmm. Doesn’t ring a bell.
Another Journalist: Yeah, and a few years before that a bunch of them came flying out of Canary Wharf?
Pm: Sorry, I’m completely drawing a blank.
Journalist: Come on! They murdered one of your predecessors!

Doctor Who returns for its latest festive special this New Year’s Day, and it promises to be an unmissable instalment based on whatever metric you judge it by. There are iconic monsters involved, a legendary guest star is back and it’ll mark the final appearance of not just one but two regular cast members. And this last point is why filming on the special, titled “Revolution of the Daleks,” proved to be so emotional for star Jodie Whittaker.
Following the episode, Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole will no longer be aboard the Tardis as Graham O’Brien and Ryan Sinclair. The pair have been part of the series since its last relaunch in 2018, so Whittaker – who’s never shot an episode without them, or co-star Mandip Gill, up to this point – found it tough to say goodbye when production wrapped on this special way back in October 2019.

Doctor Who‘s Jodie Whittaker has revealed that she was “absolutely devastated” when filming co-stars Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh’s final episode. The duo have appeared in every installment of the Thirteenth Doctor’s era alongside Whittaker and Mandip Gill, but the pair are bowing out of their roles as Ryan Sinclair and Graham O’Brien in the upcoming holiday special, “Revolution of the Daleks.”
The outing – which was shot last year along with season 12 – was tough for Jodie, with the actress revealing in a new interview that she had to be carried back to her trailer after filming because she was so overcome with emotion.
“Without going into any specifics about anything to do with character or what happens – just purely knowing it was the last scenes with myself and those actors – both of them had to carry me to my trailer,” she said. “I’ve not cried like...

The “fam” will be torn apart in the incoming Doctor Who festive special, as two of the show’s main cast members are leaving. Every episode of the past two seasons has featured Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor alongside her best pals Yaz Khan (Mandip Gill), Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole) and Graham O’Brien (Bradley Walsh), but things are about to change as Cole and Walsh are exiting the Tardis in the New Year’s Day episode, “Revolution of the Daleks.”
This has been long rumored, but was only just officially confirmed last week. And now, the stars have opened up about their “emotional” exit from the sci-fi series and teased what we can expect from the special.
“It is very, very dramatic. It is very sad. It is quite sad and poignant is the word,” Walsh said. “You can expect a lot of poignancy from the episode.”

It’s been confirmed that Doctor Who is saying goodbye to two of its companions – Tosin Cole’s Ryan Sinclair and Bradley Walsh’s Graham O’Brien – both of whom will leave the show in New Year’s Day special ‘Revolution of the Daleks.’
Though not as dramatic as the announcement of a new Doctor, the departure of a companion always signals a shift into a new era for Doctor Who. It heralds a change in dynamic, a change in story arc and the potential for the Doctor to show a new side. Sad as it can be, it means renewal, a theme that runs through the heart of the snow.
Along with almost everything in pop-culture these days, giving the brand-new Doctor no fewer than three full-time companions was something of a divisive choice. The merits and drawbacks of the decision, from showrunner Chris Chibnall, to surround the Doctor with...

“Doctor Who” stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole will be leaving the Jodie Whittaker-led series after its upcoming New Year’s Day special, “Revolution of the Daleks,” BBC America revealed in an interview with the cast and showrunner Chris Chibnall Monday.
“Well as the Doctor I will say that the fam as a four is no more,” Whittaker said, when asked about the “rumors flying around” about this being the “end of the fam,” referring to The Doctor (played by Whittaker), Graham O’Brien (Walsh), Ryan Sinclair (Cole) and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill).
Per BBC America, the “Doctor Who” holiday special “Revolution of the Daleks” picks up where Season 12 left off, with the 13th Doctor locked away in an alien prison and Yaz, Ryan and Graham far away on Earth and having to carry on with their lives without her. However, they soon discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek.

There are various bits and pieces we’ve known about the incoming Doctor Who special for a while, but the BBC has only just got around to officially confirming. For instance, the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack was revealed on Monday, despite fans figuring it out long ago. Likewise, it’s been reported that the special, titled “Revolution of the Daleks,” will say goodbye to two of the Doctor’s friends, and now that’s been assured as well.
SFX Magazine features an exclusive preview of the episode in its latest issue, which contains a quote from showrunner Chris Chibnall that confirms the major cast exits. Among other things, the EP reveals that yes, this will be the last outing in the Tardis for Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh as Ryan Sinclair and Graham O’Brien, respectively.
“It is Ryan and Graham’s final episode in the show,” Chibnall said.

Happy birthday, Jodie Whittaker! The first ever actress to play the role of the Doctor on Doctor Who turns 38 this June 17th.
Jodie Auckland Whittaker was born on this day in 1982 in West Yorkshire. Her career got started in the theater before she received her big screen break in 2008’s Venus, in which she starred opposite Oscar-winning actor Peter O’Toole. Over the next decade, her star rose as she featured in various projects such as Attack the Block, Black Mirror and Broadchurch. It was on that crime drama that she met and became close friends with David Tennant and showrunner Chris Chibnall.
In 2017, Chibnall took over Doctor Who and cast Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. Her debut season, the revived series’ eleventh run, aired in fall 2018. Season 12 then followed earlier this year. Whittaker has confirmed that she’s returning for at least season 13, which is supposed to start filming in September.

British science-fiction series “Doctor Who” has made history by introducing the first actor of color to play the Doctor: Jo Martin, who’s also only the second woman to be cast in the series’ lead role.
The January 26 episode, titled “Fugitive of the Judoon,” starred Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, alongside Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, and Mandip Gill as her companions, Graham O’Brien, Ryan Sinclair, and Yasmin Khan, respectively, along with the return of John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness.

Things have been pretty crowded in the Tardis over the past couple of seasons, but it’s looking like Doctor Who might be losing one of its four leads after the currently airing season 12. Tosin Cole has played Ryan Sinclair on the sci-fi show since Jodie Whittaker took over as the Thirteenth Doctor in 2018, appearing in every episode as one of her three companions, alongside Mandip Gill’s Yaz Khan and Bradley Walsh’s Graham O’Brien. But he’s now found himself another gig.
Deadline has revealed that Cole has joined the cast of new AMC drama 61st Street. Cole stars as Moses Johnson, a talented teen athlete whose life looks to be ruined when he’s falsely accused of killing a white police officer. Courtney B. Vance also features as Franklin Richards, the veteran public defender who sees Johnson’s case as his last chance to get back at a corrupted judicial system.

Doctor Who returns for the first time in 12 months this New Year’s Day, and ahead of that you can now view this new sneak peak, courtesy of the BBC America YouTube channel. The twelfth season of the sci-fi series is set to kick off with an epic two-part story titled “Spyfall,” which as the title makes clear, will have a strong James Bond flavor. And in this clip, you can see the Thirteenth Doctor and co. being brought in to save the world by the head of MI6, as played by Stephen Fry.

Jodie Whittaker was terrific in Doctor Who season 11, no doubt about it, but the Thirteenth Doctor’s first year in the Tardis didn’t get under the Time Lord’s skin enough for us to really get a three-dimensional portrait of who this Doctor is. This won’t be the case with season 12, though, as the trailers have alluded to a dark night of the soul for the time traveler coming up. And that’s further teased in this new featurette, a pre-season preview courtesy of BBC America.

Yesterday, her co-star Mandip Gill – who plays Yaz Khan – shared a snap from the Who set on social media, which revealed that Whittaker celebrated her birthday in an adorable way. The photo sees Jodie in a glittery dress adorned with “Birthday girl” buttons and with a candle crown on her head. Hilariously, the rest of the cast – Gill, Tosin Cole (Ryan Sinclair) and Bradley Walsh (Graham O’Brien) – look unimpressed.
“She came to work like this,” Gill wrote in her caption. “She is 37. She is my idol.”

The inaugural season for Jodie Whittaker’s thirteenth Doctor has been a huge success for the BBC. Audience numbers were way up on the previous seasons of Doctor Who, people seemed to respond well to the new cast and showrunner Chris Chibnall’s decision to avoid delving too deep into the show’s complex lore appears to have paid off.
Now, as the cast begins shooting next year’s season 12 and season 11 hits Blu-ray, the gang’s been looking back on their favorite episodes. Speaking to the Express, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole, who play companions Yasmin Khan and Ryan Sinclair, have explained their picks for best of the season.
First up, Gill said the following:
“I would have to say Rosa and Demons of the Punjab because the storylines were related to me! I really enjoyed Vinette Robinson as Rosa Parks and I thought it looked absolutely beautiful. I like dramas about historical events,...

In a break with tradition, the annual Doctor Who winter special will air on New Year’s Day this time around rather than Christmas Day. The scheduling shift has caused a lot of controversy amongst fans, but at least the hour-long episode promises to be a terrific treat when it finally does arrive this coming week.
Today, a new promo from the BBC has landed online and it sees the Tardis team – that’s Thirteenth Doctor Jodie Whittaker and companions Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill and Bradley Walsh – teasing what makes “Resolution” so special. Whittaker says that she hopes the audience will have a good time and be continually interested and unable to look away, while Cole and Gill – who play Ryan Sinclair and Yaz Khan, respectively – promise that the episode will feature a lot of action, with the former teasing that it might be the biggest one in terms of...

Season 11 of Doctor Who has really stretched the format of the show in some major ways. Two episodes, in particular – “Rosa” and “Demons of the Punjab” – pushed the human drama and mature themes such as racial and cultural tensions to the fore and let the sci-fi elements of the plot take a back seat. Some fans praised the bold approach while others heavily criticized it, arguing that the series had become “too politically-correct.”
In a new interview with Radio Times, season 11 stars Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole – who play companions Yaz Khan and Ryan Sinclair – were asked for their thoughts on this criticism. Gill spoke up first and hit out at the overused phrase itself and how bizarre it is as a complaint.
“It makes me laugh, because having the words ‘too’ and ‘correct’ in the same sentence is really bizarre to me. How can you be too correct about something?...

We’ve just started our journey across time and space with the Thirteenth Doctor and her new best friends but, as is normal with Doctor Who, the present and the future are getting jumbled up already as fans want to know how long this Tardis team will be around for. Fortunately, it looks like Jodie Whittaker is here to stay for the foreseeable future but unfortunately, we can’t be sure of the same for her companions.
Mandip Gill stars as Yaz Khan on the series, alongside Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair and Bradley Walsh as Graham O’Brien, and during an appearance on daytime talk show This Morning, Gill was asked about her Doctor Who future. The actress played coy in her response, with her answer hinting that either one, two or all three of the companions could vacate the show at the end of season 11.

In its five decades careening through the cosmos and the popular imagination, Doctor Who has given us plenty of philosophies to choose from: “Go forward in all your beliefs.” “There is no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes.” “We’re all stories in the end.” “Bananas are good.” But on yesterday’s Season 11 premiere, the latest incarnation of the time-traveling, galaxy-hopping, species-saving, face-changing Time Lord gave voice to what is perhaps the show’s most enduring philosophy: “We’re all capable of the most incredible change.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Doctor Who” Season 11, Episode 1, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”]
Jodie Whittaker bursts out of the gate with vitality, humor, and grace in her official “Doctor Who” debut, giving an engaging performance that does the Time Lord pedigree proud. After 50 years of men in the role, the Doctor is now a woman, but viewers tuning in for the first time to witness Whittaker’s historic assumption of the Doctor’s mantle will find no barrier to entry. Her regeneration has gone wonky, so she and the audience are figuring everything out together. She’s forgotten everyday words, mixes up common sensations, and doesn’t even know her own name. Nevertheless, she is undeterred in her calling as humanity’s champion. “When people need help, I never refuse,” she declares.
Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor.

Tomorrow marks just one week to go until Doctor Who returns to our screens, bringing with it a brand new era for the show. 15 months since Jodie Whittaker was unveiled as the Thirteenth Doctor, we’ve still yet to see a substantial amount of her in action. In fact, the 2017 Christmas special only saw her utter one word and the trailers so far have just given us a few snippets.
But now, the BBC have supplied us with our first proper clip from the upcoming season premiere, titled “The Woman Who Fell To Earth,” giving us a whole minute of Whittaker in action as the latest version of the Time Lord. And, wouldn’t you know it, she’s instantly brilliant in the part. The clip teases that Thirteen will be suffering from some post-regenerative amnesia in the episode, meaning she won’t immediately know who she is.

And now that we’re nearing the air date, the BBC has given us a new promo photo to tease the opening episode, titled “The Woman Who Lived.”
The still features Whittaker in the loose-fitting clothes of her predecessor, Peter Capaldi, who she regenerated from in Christmas 2017’s “Twice Upon A Time.” So presumably, this scene takes place early on in the premiere before she’s chosen her own wardrobe. ‘Doctor Who’ Season 11 Trailer: Jodie Whittaker Is Starting Again, Sonic Screwdriver in Hand (Video)
The (new) Doctor is in.
BBC America released the official trailer for the upcoming season of “Doctor Who” Thursday, showing new lead Jodie Whittaker in all her badass glory. Whittaker, as fans already know, will play the series’ first ever female Time Lord — a part that is not to be taken lightly. But based on the one-minute preview, she was “born for this.”
Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor on the long-running series, giving up his sonic screw driver and keys to the Tardis during last year’s Christmas Special after making it known earlier in the year that he’d be exiting.

The news that Jodie Whittaker would be taking on the role of the 13th Doctor has been out for some time, but every new glimpse of her take on the iconic role seems to prove that gender has nothing to do with adventures through space and time.

One of the many ways that the upcoming eleventh season of Doctor Who will revamp the show is by introducing three new companions for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor, as opposed to the usual one or two. Things are going to get pretty crowded in the Tardis, then, but we’ve heard that the characters will develop a “family” dynamic throughout the season.

You’ve probably noticed that she’s set to have three of them, an unusually high amount of friends for the Time Lord to squeeze into the Tardis. So why was this the direction the production team went in?
Well, Digital Spy spoke to new showrunner Chris Chibnall and he explained that each of the three companions represents a different entry point for the audience, with the hopes that everyone will find someone in the Tardis to relate to.
“I love Doctor Who as a big, popular, mainstream, accessible show. So I wanted to make sure that every member of the audience felt they had a relatable character, an access point. Hopefully it means that the show can resonate with the broadest possible audience.”
