"When I die, God is going to hold me accountable for everything I've done on earth. He may hold me back until last and run everybody else through the line, because it will take so long to go over all my sins." Those are the words of Chris Kyle, the man who holds the distinction of being the most lethal sniper in the history of the U.S. Military. Kyle penned a book about his four tours in Iraq titled "American Sniper," and it would go on to inspire a movie that shattered decades-long beliefs about what a movie could do at the box office in January. Kyle wouldn't live to see his movie make it across the finish line, nor would...

Bradley Cooper’s friends and colleagues gathered at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday night to salute his career as he was presented with the American Cinematheque’s 2018 Sid Grauman Award.
“When we do these Q&As and things together, sometimes you call me Gaga, but we both know that you call me Stefani,” Cooper’s “A Star Is Born” co-star Lady Gaga said, fighting back tears. “I ran from Stefani for a long time, and I put on a superhero cape and called myself Lady Gaga. He challenged me to deep dive into a place where I had to see her again. Where I had to be Stefani again.”
“I’m so grateful to you, not just for making me a better actress,” she added, “But I’m so grateful that, not have I only been able to call you as a professional, but I’ve been able to call on you as a friend.

There was a lot of talk about how handsome Bradley Cooper is on Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton, where the director and star of “A Star Is Born” became the 32nd recipient of the American Cinematheque Award at a black-tie fundraising dinner and ceremony.
And there was a lot of talk about how hard-working he is and how talented he is, lots of the kind of plaudits that are the currency of the realm at Hollywood awards shows.
But something felt different about the tribute to Cooper. “Most of us have been to nights like this many times before,” actor Sean Penn said when he presented the award to Cooper after a couple of hours of speeches and film clips. “But we’ve never been at one where so many generous and moving things have been said with such extemporaneous spirit.”

At tonight’s 32nd American Cinematheque Award dinner at the Beverly Hilton, guests were seated in the ballroom by 7:30 p.m. But it was not until 10:40 p.m. that the night’s honoree, Bradley Cooper, took the stage after an outpouring of affection from Hollywood colleagues, including A Star is Born co-stars Lady Gaga and Sam Elliott, Jennifer Garner, Sean Penn, and many others.
The dinner and multi-media award show was a fundraiser for the American Cinematheque, a nonprofit organization that owns, programs and operates the Egyptian Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard (opened in 1922) and the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.
“It took a long time, I know it’s been a very long night, but thank you for staying,” Cooper said, and seemed genuinely stunned by the speeches, some of which moved him to tears. He said the warmth in the ballroom made it feel like “a very small,...

The year after he published his autobiography American Sniper and the year before the film adaptation hit theaters, United States Navy Seal veteran Christopher Kyle was gunned down along with his friend Chad Littlefield. So what happened to Chris Kyle's killer? Justice caught up with Eddie Ray Routh just more than two years later… Routh was arraigned on Feb. 2, 2013, the same day he shot and killed Kyle and Littlefield at a shooting range in Erath County, TX. On Feb. 24, 2015, Routh was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. And in April 2017, a court of appeals upheld the conviction — which is the latest update we've heard about the case. Kyle and Littlefield were reportedly helping Routh, a former Marine, with his post-traumatic stress disorder. Routh had also been diagnosed with schizophrenia and psychosis. After being charged with double murder, Routh pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity,...

Taya Kyle began by praising the President for his message of hope, but pivoted to wondering why, instead of proposing measures to prevent gun violence, he doesn't instead offer hope by telling people how much the murder rate has gone down.

Oscar contender American Sniper is a film of staggering force but also one that isn’t afraid to depict the brutal, devastating effects of weapons used in modern warfare, which made it surprising when, instead of depicting the death of subject Chris Kyle at the hands of a troubled veteran he had been attempting to help, the biopic simply acknowledged his death with an intertitle.
Now, it has emerged that there is a very sad and relatable reason why director Clint Eastwood and screenwriter Jason Hall chose to leave out any on-screen depiction of Kyle’s death. Early drafts of the script included the highly dramatic, tragic incident, but American Sniper ended up dropping it after a request from Kyle’s widow, Taya Kyle.
When interviewed on the red carpet for the Writer’s Guild Awards, Hall stated that:

The final scene initially planned for American Sniper was cut at the request of Chris Kyle's widow.
The creators originally wanted to film an ending which showed Chris being killed at a firing range, but Taya Kyle got in touch asking them not to depict the sniper's death.
Jason Hall, who penned the screenplay, told NY Daily News: "Five days after Chris was murdered, [Taya] called and said, 'This is going to be how my children remember their father, so I want you to get it right'.
"In the end, I think we felt that this was a film about Chris's life and not about his death. We also wanted to be careful not to glorify the guy who did it.
"I didn't want it to be the thing that was hanging over [the children's] heads for the very rest of their lives, as the film that showed their father getting shot.
