Carolyn Rivera had a rough "Survivor" finale night. Not only did the Florida-based corporate executive lose the "Survivor: Worlds Apart" crown to Mike Holloway, but she received fewer votes than she anticipated, in tying with Will Sims for third with one vote apiece. And then to make things worse, Carolyn's candidacy for next season's "Survivor: Second Chances" fell short. [It's no solace, probably, but Mike thinks Carolyn got hosed in the Second Chance voting process] So you'll forgive me for treating Carolyn as the season's second place finisher, at least in terms of exit interview publication. Carolyn earned it. In addition to a key Individual Immunity win, a crucial play on a hidden Idol that she found sans clue and successful maintenance of majority alliance that would have won the day were it not for Mike's Immunity hot streak, Carolyn also earned her place in the Final 3 with a thrilling, tie-breaking fire build victory over Rodney. For the last few weeks of the season I...

For 13 of 14 episodes in this "Survivor: Worlds Apart" season, Will Sims II was enjoying one of the quietest, least significant 39 day runs in the show's history. For 13 of those 14 episodes, Will stayed just out of the firing line on his No Collar tribe, made a smart alliance transition post-Merge to join with an assortment of White Collar and Blue Collar players in a majority pact and cruised to a Final 3 finish. For 13 of those 14 episodes, you'd have been hard-pressed to remember anything specific that Will did. That 14th episode? Well, it was a doozy. At the "Survivor" Auction, Will seemed to make a bad bid and was sent directly back to camp, where he discovered that he'd actually been given directions to a hidden trove of supplies. Will shared his food with his fellow tribemates when they returned, but speculation inevitably arose that if he'd been forthcoming about some of the food,...

"Survivor: Worlds Apart" fourth and fifth place finishers Rodney Lavoie Jr. and Sierra Dawn Thomas called me as a package deal on Thursday (May 21) morning following the "Survivor" finale. The pairing probably spared Rodney lots of repetition about the various sexism and misogyny charges leveled through the season and discussed through the finale. Those issues came up in our conversation, but it wasn't the meat of the exit interview. In a season with a 6-1-1 vote, I let Sierra and Rodney defend casting their respective votes for Carolyn and Will instead of eventual winner Mike. We discussed a few strategic points in the game, we circled around the sexist comments, the edit and who apologized to whom. And we talked about Rodney's birthday and his feelings about Tom Brady's suspension in Deflategate. Which Rodney compares to excessive attention to "Survivor" sexism. Paired interviews are a good way to deflect problematic questions!

Sometimes, people play a good game of Survivor, but lose because of bad luck.
That happened in Survivor: Worlds Apart.
Carolyn "Mama C" Rivera certainly had the chops to win the show, but she ended up on a season where likable, athletic Mike Holloway went on an immunity run and was unable to be voted out.
Brash Bostonian Rodney Lavoie Jr. put together a successful alliance, but he also fell victim to Holloway's immunity run. Sierra Dawn Thomas made it to the final five without making a single enemy on the jury. And Will Sims – who looked like a clear...

Nice guys don't always finish last.
That was ultimately the message of Survivor: Worlds Apart. The arguments were ugly and the characters weren't always lovable, but in the end, it was good guy Mike Holloway who walked away with $1 million.
It wasn't easy. After finding himself on the outs, Holloway only made it to the end by winning five immunity challenges and playing a hidden immunity idol.
Holloway, a 38-year-old oil driller from Texas, tells People how he won the game – and what he'll do differently if he ever plays again.
Mike! Congratulations on winning season 30!
Thank you! It still hasn't sunk in yet.

On Survivor: Worlds Apart, Dan proved that even with an extra vote, he was too inept to prevent himself from getting voted out. Dan went on and on about how self-centered and arrogant Mike is, and then proceeded to lay around the shelter like a giant seal sunning itself on a rock instead of strategizing. It never occurred to any of the three amigos (aka stooges) -- Dan, Rodney and Will -- there might be an idol in play. I'm not sure there's much they could have done, but the hubris associated with not even trying is one good reason why Dan's ass is now on the jury.

To say that Dan Foley has been one of the polarizing players in this "Survivor" season would probably be a misnomer, because the "positive" side of the pole hasn't been over-represented as far as fans are concerned. From condescending chatter about how to talk to and apologize to women, to bullying behavior towards Sierra, to the particularly odd Tribal Council moment in which Dan compared being adopted to being a victim of abuse, the editors have had fun creating an unappealing carousel of moments with Dan, but also Rodney and Will. Dan hasn't done so well with the men either, launching a feud with former ally Mike over a misunderstanding, and seemingly randomly calling Rodney's mother a whore. Several months after an ouster in which Dan's two-vote Tribal Council advantage was negated by a surprising Idol play by Carolyn, Dan's got explanations or context for a lot...

On Survivor: Worlds Apart, Rodney just woke up and realized he's playing Survivor. As so often happens on "Survivor," Tyler Fredrickson seemed well on his way to winning the million bucks, at least until he suddenly wasn't and Jeff Probst was snuffing his torch. Tyler had weathered a bumpy transition out of the not-wholly-functional White Collar tribe and he found himself in the center of a seemly strong numbers alliance, one that he helped solidify through his tight bond with original tribemate Carolyn. The former Cal Bears kicker and preseason Redskin and Raider was just strong enough that he seemed capable of winning an Individual Immunity or two, but not so dangerous that everybody viewed him as a threat. And in a season of larger-than-life personalities prone to extended shouting matches, he seemed level-headed and quiet. Naturally, that was a combination of factors that caused people to start talking about him as the eventual winner and that's the kind of talk that can...

Everybody's trying to figure out who voted for who, with Mike cackling all the way. The Six go off into the jungle to scramble, which Mike loves, even if he wasn't invited. He knows he's safe with his Idol, so The Six will have to cannibalize. Dan is ranting and raving about knowing it was a bluff, while Tyler is trying to lecture Dan on basic strategy. "It's fine," Dan says, putting his hand on Tyler's chest in a threatening manner. Clueless Will is trying to explain to Dan why he voted for him and Dan also reassures him, in a Low-Rent Godfather kinda way. When Shirin Oskooi was 21, she applied to be a contestant on Survivor. She didn't make it, so she applied again and again, at least once a year.
She finally got the call to compete. She was 31.
But things didn't go as planned. Oskooi, a Yahoo! executive from San Francisco, found herself on an exceptionally unpleasant season. The arguments often devolved into vicious personal attacks – many of which were aimed directly at Oskooi.
The ugliness reached its peak when fellow contestant Will Simms derided Oskooi for not having a family. It was clearly a painful moment for the contestants and an awkward scene for the viewers.

Pre-credit sequence. I already miss Jenn. Sigh. No matter what Mike tried to say at Tribal, Dan doesn't believe he's at the bottom of his alliance, insisting once again that beneath his seemingly passive game lurk schemes. Still waters, as we say, run Dan. Taking a break from brow-beating her about her stupidity, Dan is feigning sympathy toward Shirin, who feels like she was verbally assaulted by Will in the previous episode. She says she isn't a crier, but she has a Pavlov's Dog response to men attacking her, a thought that makes Shirin cry again. "All this drama makes Will an excellent person to take to the end," Shirin also laments to us. Putting on the hangdog of hangdoggiest expressions, Dan tells Shirin that he's sorry about what went down at Tribal. Do we believe a word out of Dan's mouth? Well, let's see what he tells the camera.

But the happy moments? There were so many great moments out there." You wouldn't necessarily know about those great moments based on how Jenn went out of the game. Two episodes after an Immunity Idol play that represented one of the "Survivor" season's most exciting moments, Jenn was ready to leave the game and tried to convince people to vote against her. Instead, the castaways took the opportunity to get rid of major threat Joe. But one episode later, Jenn was leaving after a decisive vote that saw even allies Shirin and Mike vote against her. For a couple "Survivor: Worlds Apart" episodes, it looked as if Joe Anglim might be able to pull off the unthinkable. Targeted for elimination at every vote -- when your nickname is "Joey Amazing," people don't like to keep you around -- Joe was spared pre-Merge elimination when the Joaquin-Rodney romance somehow made them into an alleged power couple. Then he won two consecutive Individual Immunity challenges and it seemed fair to wonder if he would ever lose. "100 percent," Joe told me regarding whether he began to believe he could run the Individual Immunity table. "I was very confident that I could possibly go all the way." And in Wednesday's episode, even though he lost Individual Immunity, it briefly looked as if the combination of an elaborately designed fake Idol and Jenn's desire to semi-quit might earn him at least one more day in the game. Joe...

Joe Anglim may not have won a million bucks on "Survivor," but his spot-on impressions of tribe mates Mike Holloway and Rodney Lavoie could very well earn him his own Broadway one-man show. Listen to Joe's hilarious impersonations in our new podcast below, and then make your predictions for next week's episode to win our prize of a $100 Amazon gift certificate. It's fun and easy, so start now by scrolling down and predicting who will be eliminated next. -Break- "Here's the deal with Mike. Mike has his angry ratchet voice ... like he's got this whole other side of him," Joe says in his deep drawl. He then switches to a Boston accent for his Rodney impression, joking, "Yo, Jeff, I haven't had a reward in like four days, bro. I need some carbs. I need a reward, brother. Like, come on, dude." Joe also details how his "heart dropped" when...

Pre-credit sequence. Hali's gone. I may not miss her, but Merica will, especially the awesome sloth who may or may not have anything to do with camp. Dan, standing by his "flippers never win" nonsense, is lecturing Shirin on how to play "Survivor," but Shirin is still hoping for a Blue Collar fracture. She wants to go to the end, which will only work if somebody on Blue Collar splits from the rest. Shirin tells everybody that she's voting for Mike at the end, which is the start of her fracturing process. Will she find help from Rodney? Boston's Finest thinks Dan is wrong in saying that flippers don't win the game, but he emphasizes that it matters when you flip and he sounds ready to flip at some point. How soon? Dunno, but let's just say Rodney isn't Blue till he dies at all. "I don't need no more friends.

I'm still not sure why Hali Ford and her alliance were so surprised at the end of Wednesday (April 8) night's "Survivor: Worlds Apart." I guess I can understand why Hali was surprised. It would have been reasonable that, given the options in her four-person minority group, the game steering Blue Collar group would have targeted the seemingly stronger Jenn or the seemingly more annoying Shirin rather than voting against Hali, who proved a patriotic member of the newly merged Merica Tribe. But even after talking to Hali, I don't get why they assumed that wobbly Blue Collar partisan Sierra was going to join their anti-Dan vote, nor why anybody had a reason to expect either Will or Tyler or anybody else to give them enough votes to actually succeed. In this week's "Survivor" exit interview, Hali tries to explain what went wrong with the vote, why she was disappointed...

It's always a bit surprising when "The Amazing Race" is making its first appearance in a particular country, but Friday (April 10) night's episode will be the initial visit to Monaco for Phil Keoghan and company. [Actually, I can't say with any certainty that this is Phil Keoghan's first visit to Monaco. I just know it's his first visit with "The Amazing Race."] Check above for a HitFix exclusive clip of the couples dangling high above Monaco in a task that features both ziplining -- It feels like we've done that at least once already this season -- but also precarious wire-balancing. Do not watch if you have vertigo! Check back later tonight for my full recap of Friday's episode, which is titled "Smells Like a Million Bucks." And this seems like a fair time to check in to see your thoughts on Season 26 of CBS' Emmy-winning favorite... For me, I'm appreciating the relative parity of the season. Jelani & Jenny may have won the first two Legs, but they've been middle-of-the-pack for the past few Legs. Mike & Rochelle...

For fans of slick Idol play and Tribal Council blindsides, Wednesday's (April 1) "Survivor: Worlds Apart" episode was a season highlight. Probably Kelly, the Blue Collar stalwart who fell victim to the Jenn's Idol shocker and had her torch snuffed, wasn't quite as enthusiastic, but at least Kelly realizes what she did wrong. Looking back on her "Survivor" ouster, Kelly admits that she was so irked by her post-Shuffle Nagarote tribe that she could could only be bothered to play nice with them for a few days, but couldn't maintain that diplomacy after the Merge, leaving no doubt that she'd flipped and putting a target on herself. She still thinks, though, that voting her out was a personal decision and not a strategic move. She's probably right. In her exit interview -- a slightly truncated conversation due to travel and timing on my part -- the New York state trooper...

Survivor is a numbers game. The entire point of the competition is to get and keep a numerical advantage against your opponents. Generally speaking, if you have the numbers, you're safe.
Unless you're Kelly Remington.
The tribes merged on Wednesday's episode, creating a new 12-member tribe. (In a flash of patriotism, they named their tribe "Merica," a shortened version of "America." the flag colors, of course, were red, white and blue.
In the new tribe, Remington had a tight alliance in the majority. The 44-year-old New York state trooper seemed very safe, until they decided to vote for sailing instructor Jenn Brown.

"There's no point in going into a merge if you have somebody who can't be trusted." –Bill Posley, Survivor: One World
What an episode, what a merge and what a season!
Wednesday on Survivor, the season's merge left all 12 players scrambling. Alliances shifted and reformed as each of the variously collared contestants worked to solidify old agreements and form new bonds.
Survivor: Worlds Apart has no Jefras, no purple Kellys content to bob along on the game's tides.

Survivor: Worlds Apart suffered its first bromance break-up when the short-lived lovefest between Rodney and Joaquin was sabotaged by Rodney's tribemates. The two lugheads didn't even get to second base. Rodney's bright idea to throw a competition was a big gamble, and he lost.
Over at Nagarote, Shirin has finally clued in she wasn't the most popular person in her tribe and tried to dial it down and keep a low profile. This week, the two tribes become one, and once again, all bets are off. Check out where each group stands, what's likely to happen once they merge, and my pick for the survivor most likely to go home next.

Power couples rarely work out well on "Survivor" and power couplings certainly didn't work out well for Joaquin Souberbielle on "Survivor: Worlds Apart." Joaquin started the season by volunteering for a leadership position on his White Collar tribe. He and second-in-command So told a fib about a secret Immunity clue, didn't find the Idol and So was the first player voted out this season. From there, Joaquin got to fly a bit under the radar until he formed another power couple in the shuffled Escameca tribe, forming an East Coast bond with Rodney. Unfortunately, Joaquin misjudged how much other people, particular swing-vote Sierra, distrusted Rodney and a majority alliance fell apart and Joaquin was sent packing. Fortunately, Joaquin doesn't sound bitter about what went down. He's got a pitch for a new Joaquin/Rodney reality show, he's full of mockery for Shirin and he's mighty annoyed that his tribe threw that last Immunity.
