It's fair to say that the world is ready to see more of Stephanie Hsu. Following her success with "Everything Everywhere All at Once", the actor has taken on several new projects, including the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese" and the raunchy comedy "Joy Ride," which she stars in alongside "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park.
The film, which hit theaters on July 7, centers around a lawyer named Audrey (Park) who travels to China with a group of her closest friends in search of her birth mother. The unapologetic, hilarious nature of the flick gave Hsu a chance to do something outside her normal bubble, which was a thrill to experience, according to the actor. "It felt so exciting to get to do what we never get to do, which is to be completely unhinged, disgusting, grotesque, chaotic, wild, but still so full of heart," she explained in a July 2023 interview with Elle.

[The following story includes major spoilers for the first three episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season five.]
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel kicked off its final season with a new career opportunity for Midge, trouble ahead for the comedy’s core duo and an emotional farewell.
Season five opens with a shot of now-Ph.D candidate Esther Maisel (Alexandra Socha) in therapy in 1981, discussing her complicated relationship with her mother, who’s at this point in time a successful comedienne. In between bursts about how the world doesn’t revolve around Midge, Esther works on a molecular kinetic sequence to figure out how to use DNA mutations to change the trajectory of disease.
Rachel Brosnahan feels like the two women being at odds makes sense. “Midge has chosen a somewhat selfish profession,” Brosnahan tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s inevitable that kids grow up to hate their parents to some degree. We only see them for a brief time, so...

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 opens with shocking news from Mei Lin (Stephanie Hsu). Mei was pregnant and Joel Maisel (Michael Zegen) planned to marry her at the end of season 4. But marriage and a baby didn’t fit into Mei’s plans to become a doctor.
In an emotional scene, Mei tells Joel there is “no baby.” And that she plans to continue her pursuit of becoming a doctor in Chicago. The Maisel writers took care in addressing how the scene was handled. The word, “abortion” was not featured in the episode. But the actors and writing made it clear that Mei chose to terminate the pregnancy.
Mei could not have a legal abortion in New York in the ’60s
Mei appears to be physically unharmed by the procedure, but having an abortion pre-Roe vs. Wade, which passed in 1973, was often dangerous and deadly. In January 1973, “the Supreme Court...
