Michael Southworth was born outside of Boston to David Southworth, a real estate developer, and Aimee Southworth, a jeweler and designer. He was a football player and avid musician in high school, but he quickly turned his focus to acting after starring in a production of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" at the Noble & Greenough School.
He was then classically trained in acting and film at Cornell University, where he worked on over two dozen plays and films. His film experience began as a student, landing small roles in
Patriots Day (2016),
Same Kind of Different as Me (2017) and
Sweeney Killing Sweeney (2018).
Michael's first lead role in film was as Sgt. John Reese in the Vietnam War epic
Love in Country (2023). In 2022, he wrapped shooting on the much anticipated
The Long Game (2023), in addition to
Lonesome Soldier (2023), which was released in 2023. Michael also wrote The Diamondback, which placed as a Semi-Finalist at the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting. He then partnered with Thunder Road Films to produce shortly thereafter, with
Dennis Quaid set to star in the film.
Michael lives in Los Angeles and trains at the Speiser Sturges Acting Studio.
