Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) A sensational performance by the bowlers followed by Suryakumar Yadav’s hard-fought knock guided India to a nervy six-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I and levelled the three-match series 1-1 on a spin-friendly pitch at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
The low-scoring encounter also witnessed an unusual feat as not a single six was hit on 239 legal deliveries bowled during the second T20I.
Spinners spun the web and took the first five wickets of New Zealand, who never got the momentum throughout the batting innings. The Indian pacers then did a brilliant finishing job as the visitors were restricted to 99/8 in 20 overs.
Arshdeep Singh (2-7) was the most successful bowler for India while Yuzvendra Chahal (1-4), Kuldeep Yadav (1-17), Deepak Hooda (1-17), Washington Sundar (1/17) and Hardik Pandya (1/25) also picked vital wickets at regular intervals.

Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) Indian bowlers produced a sensational performance to restrict New Zealand to 99/8 in the second T20I of the three-match series at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
Indian spinners spun the web and took the first five wickets of New Zealand, who never got the momentum throughout the innings. The Indian pacers then did a brilliant finishing job for the hosts.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand opener Devon Conway hit Hardik Pandya for a boundary in the first over while Washington Sundar bowled a disciplined second over. Pandya came back for the third over and Finn Allen got a lucky boundary, with wicket-keeper...

Lucknow, Jan 29 (Ians) New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the second T20I of the three-match series at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, here on Sunday.
New Zealand, who are leading the series 1-0, didn’t make any changes to their side.
“We are gonna have a bat. The stats say that it’s challenging to chase here. We’ll try to get some runs on the board and see what it does. We had a tough one-day series, it was nice to bounce back with a win. Different guys stepping up at different times is always nice,” said Santner at the toss.

Ranchi, Jan 27 (Ians) India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Jsca International Stadium in Ranchi, here on Friday.
“Looks like a very good track. The reason behind the decision to bowl first is that the ground is going to get quite wet, I can see some dew now itself. Just go out there and play the best cricket we know.”
“It’s a young side, everyone’s ready to go. We will focus on playing good cricket. Playing the ODIs before T20Is makes it easy to pass on. For a lot of them it is an experience just being in the team. Yuzi (Yuzvendra Chahal), Mukesh (Kumar), Jitesh (Sharma) and Prithvi (Shaw) miss out,” Hardik said at the toss.

Indore, Jan 23 (Ians) After taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match Odi series, India could be looking at making some changes to their playing eleven for the third and final game as they seek a 3-0 finish against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium on Tuesday.
After a 3-0 series victory over Sri Lanka, India wouldn’t want to let their guard down in a dead rubber and inflict a series sweep over a New Zealand missing stalwarts like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee.
New Zealand, on the other hand, will have pride to play for in Indore and a win would do their confidence a world of good ahead of the three T20Is against India, where Mitchell Santner will be captaining them.

Raipur, Jan 20 (Ians) After surviving a mighty scare from all-rounder Michael Bracewell in a successful defence of 349 in the first match, India will be aiming to overcome New Zealand challenge in the second Odi and clinch back to back 50-over match series at home here, which will be Raipur’s debut as an international cricket venue on Saturday.
The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium, with a crowd capacity of 49,000, is all set to become the 50th venue in India to host an Odi match. The stadium had hosted two Ipl games of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2013 and 2015, and also played host to eight matches of the now-defunct Champions League T20.

Left-arm spin all-rounder Mitchell Santner will lead the squad that features an experienced T20 core including nine players from last year’s Icc Men’s T20 World Cup squad, along with a range of players newer to international cricket, including Lister.
Selector Gavin Larsen noted in an official statement that Santner had impressed in his previous ten opportunities as captain of the New Zealand T20I team. “Mitch is a leader in our white ball teams and has captained the T20 side in India before. Karachi, Jan 8 (Ians) New Zealand have called up pace-bowling all-rounder Doug Bracewell to replace the injured Matt Henry in their Odi squads for the upcoming 50-overs series against Pakistan and India.
Henry was ruled out of the tour with an abdominal strain, which he sustained on the final day of the second Test in Karachi, with the injury requiring two to four weeks of rest and rehabilitation.
Bracewell, who has 68 international caps to his name, most recently featured in the home Odi series against the Netherlands last April, the New Zealand Cricket informed in a media release on Sunday.
The 32-year-old has been in good form with bat and ball on the domestic scene for the Central Stags, starting the season as one of the leading wicket-takers in the Plunket Shield and more recently showed his ability with the bat, making key contributions for the Stags in the Super Smash.

Karachi, Jan 2 (Ians) Opener Devon Conway struck his fourth career century for New Zealand in the second and final Test against Pakistan here on Monday only for the Black Caps to squander the advantage and end the opening day at 309/6.
Conway scored 122 off 191 balls, hitting 16 boundaries and one six and raised a partnership of 134 runs for the opening wicket with Tom Latham (71) to give New Zealand a great start after electing to bat first. Karachi, Dec 30 (Ians) The first Test ended in a draw as bad light halted New Zealand’s victory bid and denied them a chance to go 1-0 up in the two-Test series after fine half-centuries by Imam-ul-Haq, Saud Shakeel and Sarfraz Ahmed helped Pakistan to declare and set a target of 138 in 15 overs for the visitors on the fifth day, here on Friday.
Chasing an achievable target, New Zealand were 61/1 in 7.3 overs with Devon Conway (18 not not out) and Tom Latham (35 not out) when both the teams shook hands due to a fading light. With this, Pakistan ended their four-match losing streak at home.
Resuming the fifth and last day at 77 for two and still needing 97 runs to make New Zealand bat again, Pakistan looked down and out when they slipped to 206 for seven (32 runs ahead) with 49 overs still remaining in the match.

Ahmed, coming in for Mohammad Rizwan to get a Test appearance after almost four years, shared a mammoth 196-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Babar lasting 56.3 to put Pakistan in a position of strength and demoralise New Zealand.
Newly-appointed New Zealand Test skipper Tim Southee introduced veteran left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel into the attack in just the fourth over of the day and the move paid dividends almost immediately as Abdullah Shafique was out stumped by wicketkeeper Tom Blundell for seven.

Auckland, Dec 14 (Ians) Back in the fray in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) auction after a year’s gap, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson is looking forward to being picked up in the upcoming auctions for the 2023 edition and hoping to ride on a great performance in India to make it back to the national team for the busy season next year.
Jamieson, who is returning from a back injury, was purchased in the 2021 auctions by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 15 crore — the highest bid for a New Zealand player and the fourth-highest in Ipl history. Napier, Nov 23 (Ians) The steady rise of India’s young left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh continued as he picked his best-ever figures in T20I cricket with 4/37 in four overs in the third and final T20I against New Zealand at McLean Park in Napier.
While Mohammed Siraj rattled New Zealand batters with his hard lengths, Arshdeep was bringing out all the tools he had in his armoury to outclass the hosts’ batting line-up. He took out Daryl Mitchell with a potent bouncer and then dismissed Ish Sodhi for a first-ball duck with a pin-point yorker.
Apart from this, Arshdeep had taken out openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway too. He also showed his ability to bowl the knuckle-ball too. He credited senior pacers in the Indian team for helping him with adding more variety to his bowling skills.
“It’s all from the guidance from the experienced players in the team.

New Zealand made one change in the playing XI as Mark Chapman came in place of regular captain Kane Williamson, who is missing this game due to a pre-arranged medical appointment.

Mount Maunganui, Nov 20 (Ians) New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the second T20I at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
After the T20I series opener was washed out without a ball being bowled at Sky Stadium, Wellington, on Friday, there is a forecast of rain in the second T20I. But as of now, the atmosphere in the stadium has been dry with overcast skies.
Williamson said the pitch and overcast conditions prompted him to bowl first, with Adam Milne coming in for Trent Boult in the playing eleven. “It’s been under covers for a large part, and also potentially some weather around. Always a great occasion when you get to play against India,” he said.
India captain Hardik Pandya feels the batters will have to assess the conditions early to post a good first-innings total.

Mount Maunganui, Nov 19 (Ians) After rain caused the first T20I between India and New Zealand at Sky Stadium to be washed out, it may again play a spoilsport when the two teams will be playing in the second match at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
Though New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson was hopeful of sunshine coming in Sunday’s sell-out match at his hometown, that may not be the case. With rain predicted for all day and precipitation levels between 40-97 per cent, there is a possibility of rain again halting India and New Zealand’s quest for rebuilding their T20I sides.
One would be hoping that Rishabh Pant gets a decent run as an opener against New Zealand. Pant, who burst on the scene with blistering performances in Ipl 2016 just after catching everyone’s eye with his exploits in U19 World Cup earlier that year in Bangladesh,...

Wellington, Nov 18 (Ians) The T20I series opener between New Zealand and India at Sky Stadium, Wellington has been washed out due to persistent rain on Friday, without a ball being bowled and the toss was not even held.
As per the weather forecast for Wellington, there was 90-100 per cent rain forecasted during the match time, which led to covers remaining on the pitch all the time. Though rain stopped for a few minutes, it came back again, heavier than it was, leading to players indulging in a session of football-volleyball indoors.
The latest cut-off time for the match to begin was 9:46pm local time, with a minimum of five overs per side needed to constitute an official T20I match. But heavy rain washed out that prospect as well, leading to Friday’s match being abandoned.

Wellington, Nov 18 (Ians) New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi believes that despite the international schedule being very hectic, playing against a side like India at home is always a factor of excitement and motivation for the hosts.
Last year, New Zealand came to India for a three-match T20I series, followed by two Tests just a day after playing the T20 World Cup final in Dubai. While the gap between the final of the World Cup and series against India was just three days, both teams will be meeting in a T20I series five days after the T20 World Cup in Australia ended with them crashing out of semifinals.
“It is always going to be tough to get up within a short span because of the scheduling these days. It’s only been a week since we came from Australia, but playing against a team like India is always exciting...

Wellington, Nov 17 (Ians) After being beaten in the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in Australia, a new-look India will be back in action in the shortest format against New Zealand in the T20I series opener at Sky Stadium in Wellington on Friday.
With stand-in head coach Vvs Laxman insisting that the Hardik Pandya-led side, without many regular stars, will be looking to play fearless and flexible cricket during the series, it also kickstarts the road towards the 2024 T20 World Cup.
After going out of the tournament in the Super 12 stage in 2021, India’s adopted an ultra-attacking approach with the bat, which gave them results in the bilateral series. But by the time T20 World Cup 2022 came in Australia, they were back to conservative batting approach, especially in the first six overs, which paled badly in comparison to England’s swashbuckling play with both bat and ball, eventually...

Auckland, Nov 15 (Ians) New Zealand have left out two of their most experienced players — opener Martin Guptill and left-arm quick Trent Boult — for their white-ball series at home against India, with Kane Williamson continuing to lead the side in the three T20Is and three Odi series beginning at Wellington on November 18.
Following New Zealand’s loss at the semifinal stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and their runners-up finish in the previous edition of the tournament in the UAE last year, New Zealand Cricket’s (Nzc) transition into a new era has commenced with the duo being left out and rising star Finn Allen primed to face Rohit Sharma’s side for the first time after being confirmed in both the white-ball squads for the fixture.
The Kiwis have opted to use 23-year-old Allen ahead of Guptill at the top of the order in recent times. Boult,...

Sydney, Nov 9 (Ians) New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat first against Pakistan in the first semifinal of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), here on Wednesday.
New Zealand, who have played impressive cricket throughout the tournament so far, didn’t make any change in their playing XI for this clash.
“We are gonna have a bat. Used surface, not much grass on it. We’re going with the same team. Same pitch but different I reckon. It’s important we adjust to those changing conditions and assess quickly. There are a few unknowns, important we stick to our plans,” said Williamson at the toss.
“Our focus is on this game, what we want to do here and really try and express ourselves with the cricket that we’ve been playing,” he added.

T20 World Cup: 'They've been outstanding', Williamson praises his bowlers ahead of semis vs Pakistan
Sydney, Nov 8 (Ians) Ahead of their crucial semifinal of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup against Pakistan, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson on Tuesday lavished praise on his bowling attack, saying that they’ve been outstanding throughout this tournament.
The Kiwis delivered an outstanding performance in the Super 12s and finished right at the top of Group 1. While there were some breathtaking batting performances throughout the tournament, the BlackCaps skipper thinks the consistency of his bowlers also played a pivotal role in their journey to the semifinals.
“I mean, they’re experienced players for us. They’ve played for us a long time, whether that’s taking wickets or, in particular, adjusting to conditions which certainly we need them to come to tournaments, world events, that’s a big part of playing,” Williamson said in the pre-match press conference.

Sydney, Nov 8 (Ians) A resurgent Pakistan and clinical New Zealand, who have had contrasting campaigns so far, will lock horns in a mouth-watering first semifinal of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg), here on Wednesday, with a common goal to book the berth in the all-important final of the mega event.
The Babaz Azam-led side lost their first two matches of the T20 World Cup against India and Zimbabwe and were on the verge of getting knocked out. However, they performed when it mattered, got a lifeline and now have a golden opportunity to go all the way in the tournament.
On the other hand, New Zealand began their campaign in style by thrashing the hosts Australia and eventually won four out of five Super 12 matches. They just lost to England in a high-quality contest but otherwise have been quite clinical in their efforts so far.

Adelaide, Nov 4 (Ians) Ireland left-arm pacer Josh Little’s hat-trick went in vain as New Zealand took a big step towards qualifying for the semifinals of Men’s T20 World Cup with a 35-run win in their last Group 1 match in Super 12s at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson played exquisite shots all across the park to make a solid 61, his first fifty of the tournament, to help his side reach a challenging 185/6. But Little stole thunder of it by dismissing him, Jimmy Neesham and Mitchell Santner on the trot in the 19th over to record second hat-trick of the tournament.
Chasing 186, Ireland needed a big start and their openers, captain Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling, responded well to the call with some amazing boundaries. At 68 for no loss after eight overs, Ireland looked set to cause an upset.
But then spin did the trick...
