Juliana has acted in several Vancouver-based independent films and plays, produced, assistant directed, and is now writing and executive producing her own projects.
In 2021, Juliana co-produced a short film called 'The Stepmom' with the writer/co-director/executive producer Keara Barnes and co-director/producer Brenda Whitehall. The story follows a Canadian woman named Saoirse who goes to Ireland to connect with her Irish roots after her mother passes away and ends up falling in love. Released in 2022, 'The Stepmom' has won several awards on the festival circuit.
Following the success of 'The Stepmom', Juliana executive produced and starred in her very first screenplay called 'Harbour'. It's a short film about a dancer who harbours regret about giving up her dance career too soon, based on Juliana's own experience in finding herself. Emotional and filled with colour and original music, 'Harbour' has it all: love, friendship, scandal, a princess party, and lots of dancing. Completed at the end of 2023, 'Harbour' is doing its film festival circuit: winning eight awards-Best Shorts Competition (Award of Merit, Women Filmmakers), South East Academy Film Festival (Best Narrative Short Film, Best Director, Best Producer, Best Original Score, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Acting Ensemble)- two additional nominations-Toyko Indie Shorts Fest (Best International Short Film), South East Academy Film Festival (Best Cinematography)- chosen as semi-finalist in three festivals-Vancouver Independent Movie Maker Awards, San Francisco Arthouse Short Festival- and in the official selection of three more festivals-French International Modern Script and Film Festival, The IndieFEST Film Awards, SHORT to the Point.
Juliana joined the producer suite alongside her friend and mentor Brenda Whitehall to help manage post-production for Whitehall's documentary 'Beyond the Podium: Celebrating Canadian Champions'. With the support of Canada Council for the Arts and Creative BC-Rogers Media, this documentary highlights the accomplishments of Canadian women winter athletes as told by an all-women and non-binary-identifying filmmaking team. It's also making its way to the film festival circuit in 2024.
Juliana was also 1st Assistant Director for 'The Stepmom' as well as Charleen Phelps' award-winning film 'Remnants' and Mariam Barry's 'Yaye'.
