In The Dark: a crime thriller that never quite managed to thrill…
This review contains spoilers.
See related Poldark: a beginners’ guide Poldark series 3 episode 8 review Poldark series 3 episode 7 review
Where’s Ted Hastings when you need him? A bent copper was at the heart of In The Dark’s second half, and AC-12 was nowhere in sight. If Line Of Duty’s crack-squad had been around, perhaps this thriller finale may have stood a chance of being thrilling. As it was, the twist waddled into view with all the grace of a nine-months-pregnant detective, and the denouement unravelled largely in explanatory dialogue after the event.
Adam the Affair, a character we’d hardly met and would probably struggle to pick out of a line-up if asked to, was the baddie. Poor dead Paul wasn’t corrupt - quite the opposite. Paul was onto Adam’s dodgy dealings with Kevin Sherwood,...

Without serious help, both Helen and Noah are in danger of losing everything.
Both of them cracked under pressure on The Affair Season 3 Episode 9. Helen's parents falling in line with Vic proved too much for her, and keeping the secret about Scotty's death was no longer of interest.
Noah, on the other hand, had to face over 30 years worth of lies that had been building up inside him. Now that the truth is out, can either of these two start putting their fractured lives back together?
Helen was reeling after her night with Noah. After facing off with Vic and his decision to leave, the only thing she could think of to do was to get out of the city.
In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best move. She's never gotten on well with her parents, and they simply fell in love with Vic during the dinner they recently shared.

Craig Strickland and Helen Strickland had planned on having countless conversations together, but after his tragic death at the start of 2016, these were some of the last words they ever exchanged. It was a year ago on Wednesday that the Backroad Anthem frontman was discovered dead from accidental hypothermia after his boat capsized in a lake during a hunting trip in Oklahoma. At the time, he was 29 years old and had just celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife a month earlier. A few days before Strickland first went missing, he texted Helen to pay her a compliment and update her on his plans for the day. Unbeknownst to her, they would be the last texts she would...

Noah Solloway: Ruining lives for 30 years.
After watching episodes such as The Affair Season 3 Episode 6, I'd like nothing better than to sit down with Sarah Treem with a glass of wine and just chat.
An interview would be nice, but far too formal. There are things about Noah that could never be discussed in such a formal setting, and nobody but Ms. Treem knows Noah like she does. I need to know what's going on with this guy.
More importantly, I need to know what Sarah Treem loves so much about Noah Solloway. Because I am admitting right now that I'm exasperated. I feel like someone has me by the feet and they're flinging me like a rag doll when it comes to understanding Noah.
After two and a half seasons, shouldn't I have nailed down an opinion on the guy? I should either like or dislike him and be...

The weekend of October 14th to 16th marked the inaugural year of the (annual) Brooklyn Horror Film Festival. The festival hosted various events around the Williamsburg neighborhood of New York City’s largest borough, including an art show, a reading by author Grady Hendrix, and film screenings. The festival was so successful that eighteen of twenty-two events were completely sold out.
One film that had its world premiere at Bhff was Child Eater (2016), a joint Icelandic/USA production. The film takes an urban legend and brings it frighteningly to life. Directed by Erlingur Ottar Thoroddsen, the film follows Helen (Cait Bliss) while she babysits Lucas. Lucas and his dad are new to the area but know the history of the house. It once belonged to a local farmer who kidnapped, tortured, and then killed children, eating their eyes in the belief that it would save his own vision.
