- Yvette Marichal serves as the Film Commissioner to the Dominican Republic, a position dedicated to the development and promotion of Dominican film industry, since 2014. Marichal graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in Social Communications, Marketing & Public Relations. She continued her studies at Boston University where she earned a masters degree in Journalism. Since then she has worked as magazine editor and in a series of television shows as both presenter and producer. In 2010 Marichal was appointed Director of Public Relations and Marketing to the Dominican Global Film Festival until 2013 when she became the festival's Creative and Communications Director, a position she successfully held until in 2014 when she was appointed Film Commissioner by the President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina. Under her leadership, the film industry in the Dominican Republic has experienced a significant growth. By ensuring favorable conditions to foreign producers, the economic impact on the Dominican economy through the production of foreign films has grown from US$ 1 million in 2013 to US$ 74 million in 2017.
