When Drake and Kendrick Lamar decided to go at each other, we knew that there was a chance for low blows; we just didn’t know we’d end up subterranean. The four tracks they exchanged on May 3 and 4 — Kendrick’s “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us,” as well as Drake’s “Family Matters” and “The Heart Pt. 6” — have taken their rift into a dark place. Drake is calling Kendrick a domestic abuser, and Kendrick is calling Drake a pedophile. Now, we’re wondering how a war that was...

We know Kendrick Lamar and Drake will throw more shots, levy more seedy allegations, and might even drop more all-out diss songs from here. But the bulk of the war has been fought, and the crown goes to Compton. In hindsight, the way Drake poked the bear with Instagram Stories provocations and his “Taylor Made” freestyle seems masochistic. Over the past week, Lamar hit Drake with a relentless volley of diss songs that comprehensively dismantled his opponent’s character and, with “Not Like Us,” may make him the punchline of the summer.

As J. Cole put a bow on this year’s Dreamville Festival, he worked an apology heard-’round-hip-hop into the introduction to one of his biggest and most sentimental songs, “Love Yourz.” “The past two days have felt terrible,” he said, earnestly admitting he’s lost sleep over “7 Minute Drill,” his nuanced but ill-received jab back at Kendrick Lamar for dissing him and Drake (mostly Drake) on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”
On stage, Cole explained that “Love Yourz” signified a turning point a decade ago, one where...

Florida rapper Kodak Black (real name Bill Kapri) continued his troubling pattern of behavior on Wednesday (February 21st) when he got combative with a local news team that was covering his release from jail.
Kapri was being released from Broward County jail in Florida when he threw rocks at Local 10 photojournalist Bryan Murphy and allegedly threatened to punch reporter Rosh Lowe.
According to the ABC affiliate, one of the rocks hit Murphy in the ribs. The artist then proceeded to shout, “Call the cops!” Watch Local 10’s footage of the run-in below.
Though Murphy filed an incident report with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, he later decided not to press charges.
The rapper had been in jail since December 2023, when a drug possession charge led to a probation violation. Earlier this month, those charges were dismissed with credit for time served when Kapri’s attorney proved he had a prescription for Oxycodone,...

If there’s one defining feature of seemingly every Kanye West album rollout, it’s gotta be chaos. In the past, it was usually good chaos — oh, how we yearn for the days of first-week sales competitions, Good Friday drops, and music videos projected on buildings. But these days, it’s often grim chaos, and the rollout for Vultures 1, West’s new collaborative album with Ty Dolla $ign, has been another exhibition in the form: delays upon delays, sample issues, diatribes of various kinds, and an alternate album cover based...

Jailed rap star Kodak Black scored a legal victory Friday when a Florida judge dismissed his drug charge linked to his Dec. 7 arrest for possession of a substance deemed “cocaine” at the scene but was actually oxycodone through subsequent lab testing. Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, submitted a prescription for the oxycodone to the court prior to the ruling. Prosecutors tried, but failed, to convince the court that more was needed to substantiate the script.

Kodak Black is asking a judge to dismiss his pending drug charges in Florida after lab tests proved the white substance collected during his recent arrest was the prescription painkiller oxycodone, not cocaine. On December 7, rapper Kodak Black was arrested in Plantation, Florida, according to a police report from the Plantation Police Department.
His black 2019 Bentley SUV had been parked with its tail lights on and blocking a portion of the road.
When an officer walked towards the driver’s side door, the window was halfway open and the rapper was sleeping inside the vehicle.
The police noted that the smell of burnt marijuana emanated from the vehicle.
They also found weed residue in the console, and there was also a styrofoam cup containing an alcoholic beverage.
In 2021, Kodak Black was pardoned for previous charges of falsifying forms to buy a firearm by former President Donald Trump.
The rapper confessed that there was marijuana in his car. He stated this when being asked if there were any weapons or if there was anything illegal in his vehicle.

The 26-year-old rapper (real name Bill Kapri), was booked into a county jail in Plantation, Fl.
He also received a traffic violation for obstructing the road. The arrest occurred after the Florida Highway Patrol allegedly saw a black Bentley SUV blocking a roadway.

Awakened, Black admitted to the weed in the SUV. But police also noticed a Styrofoam cup that he believed contained an alcoholic beverage. When Black exited the vehicle, police say they saw a white powder fall to the ground from the musician.

Eligibility for the Grammys is relatively simple: release during the eligibility period, though in some cases songs from the previous cycle are eligible as well provided they were released as singles in the current Grammy year. Despite this, here are a few artists that either weren’t eligible or just weren’t submitted for awards consideration this year.
SEEGrammy voting is underway: Here are the 8 albums we’re currently betting on for Album of the Year nominations
“Calm Down” by Rema and Selena Gomez
The biggest absence this year on the Grammy ballot was Rema and Selena Gomez’s multi-format smash hit “Calm Down (Remix).” The original song, a solo version by Rema, was submitted last year to the Best Global Music Performance category. The remix with Gomez also came out before last year’s eligibility ended, though, so it would have needed to take advantage of a loophole to be eligible again this year.

I am not a gearhead, so I have always looked at the Fast and the Furious franchise from a distance. But their popularity makes them hard to avoid. Fast X, the tenth installment in the series, arrives on disc and streaming this week from Universal Home Entertainment and no doubt entertains those who have been there from the beginning.
As with any franchise with multiple chapters, there’s the core set of characters and then all the supporting players who drop in and out of these chapters as needed. And, to keep things interesting, new players are added, usually the antagonist and maybe a new ally or frenemy.
Here, we have the sociopathic Dante (Jason Momoa) seeking vengeance on Dom (Vin Diesel) for the death of his father (Joaquim de Almeida) a decade earlier, as depicted in Fast Five. With seemingly limitless cash and men at his disposal, he has...

Doechii isn't trying to convince the world of her star power. As she explains to Popsugar, "I don't usually think about that." The 24-year-old Tampa, Fl, rapper isn't concerned with "setting intentions" with her music, either. That's why, so far, she's seamlessly tapped into different lanes of hip-hop without holding herself to a specific label. Her boom-bap, autobiographical breakthrough hit "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake" sounds nothing like the upbeat, airy rhymes delivered on her 2022 single "Persuasive." The same could be said for the rest of her multifaceted discography. And the fun of that leaves her little time to cater to her fans' every whim and want - she's too busy making the music they need.
"It's up for them to have that," Doechii says, unconcerned with fans' expectations. "However the art is interpreted, that's how it's interpreted. All I know is how I want them to feel."
Doechii's always been "super imaginative" with her art.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and music go together like the Ninja Turtles and pizza; the two are intrinsically linked. From the iconic theme song of the 1987 animated series, to Vanilla Ice’s tie-in “Ninja Rap” for 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and even their semi-forgotten 1990 stage rock and roll musical Coming Out of Their Shells, no matter the genre, these green teens are always rocking big tunes.
With music playing such a big role in the Turtles’ history, director Jeff Rowe and executive producer Seth Rogen had to be extra thoughtful when selecting the songs for the soundtrack of the Turtles’ latest film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. With its distinctive animation style, the feature film finds our pizza-loving Turtles escaping their sheltered existence in the sewers as they seek to be accepted as normal teenagers through acts of heroism.

Diddy didn't need to attend the 2023 BET Awards to steal the spotlight. On June 25, the rap giant gave viewers a major case of déjà vu when his look-alike son Christian "King" Combs, 25, walked the red carpet. Combs is currently nominated for a BET Award for best collaboration for his work on "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" with Kodak Black. Though Diddy did not attend the award show, he did watch from home, cheering on his son during his red carpet interview. "That's my baby boy!!!" Diddy captioned a snapshot of the moment on his Instagram Story.
During the interview, Combs was quick to share his excitement at being nominated. "I feel great. I'm honored to be here," he said. "I'm super happy, super excited. I'm nominated for the first time ever for a BET Award. Shout-out to my boy Kodak [Black]. We going to take this one home." A few hours earlier,...

The 23rd BET Awards were given out on Sunday evening, in a five hour-plus (!) ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This year’s host-less BET Awards had a lot going on, including a star-studded celebration of 50 years of hip hop (featuring musical medleys curated by DJ and producer Kid Capri); a tribute to the late Tina Turner, led by the legendary (if teleprompter-challenged) Patti Labelle; the recognition of Busta Rhymes with the Lifetime Achievement Award; and performances by nominees Coco Jones, Ice Spice, GloRilla and Latto, plus Doechii, Lil Uzi Vert and Mad Lion.

On Tuesday, Billboard published a piece speculating on why hip-hop hasn’t had a Number One album or single within the first half of 2023. The report set off a flurry of chatter from industry observers and rap fans drawing their own conclusions as to what the answer might be. Is the dearth of rap hits this year a matter of market share, artist deaths, incarceration, or stagnant charts?
Most people who think the occurrence is no big deal are chalking it up to a lack of releases by major rap stars.

A rapper escaping difficult circumstances to triumph as an artist is a deeply American story and a hip-hop archetype. French Montana is expanding that dynamic with For Khadija, a documentary about his family’s 1996 emigration from Morocco to the Bronx.
The documentary, debuting at the Tribeca Film Festival tonight, chronicles a remarkable story: having to give up his college hoop dreams because he didn’t have a green card, turning to the streets when he saw few other options available, then finding a way out through music and his Cocaine City DVDs,...
