“Drishyam,” a hit Indian thriller in which an ordinary man confounds the police in order to protect his family, is to be re-made in English. Production is by India’s Panorama Studios with U.S. companies Gulfstream Pictures and Joat Films.
The film was first made in 2013 in the Malayalam language, before being remade in Hindi with Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles in 2015. It earned itself a Hindi sequel “Drishyam 2,” in 2022, that grossed some $43 million worldwide.
Panorama, which produced the Hindi version for Viacom18 Motion Pictures, has acquired the international remake rights to “Drishyam 1 & 2” from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas, and is settling up multiple international versions. A Korean remake with Anthology Studios was announced in May last year, while Panorama says that a development deal for a Spanish language retread is also close to being finalized.

The CW’s revamped (get it?) “Lost Boys” pilot has cast one of its lead roles.
Lincoln Younes has been cast in the series as Benjamin, the charismatic leader of the gang of vampires in a seemingly idyllic North Carolina seaside town. Younes’ role is most similar to the role of David in the 1987 film version of “The Lost Boys,” who was played by Kiefer Sutherland.
Younes most recently starred in the ABC drama series “Grand Hotel.” He is also known for starring in shows like “Home and Away,” “Tangle,” and “Hiding” in his native Australia. He is repped by Megan Silverman Management, United Management in Australia, and Hamilton Hodell in the U.K.
The CW gave “The Lost Boys” a pilot order back in January. The network had previously ordered a “Lost Boys” pilot last season before ultimately passing. The CW remained high on the project, however, and decided to redevelop it.

Like clockwork — the CW once again is done with its pilot orders by Feb.1, doing the bulk of its pickups during the last week of January. The network today gave pilot green light to The Lost Boys, a retooled version of the pilot the CW ordered last season, from Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas, and Maverick, from young writer Merigan Mulhern (BH90210) and Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, about a college-bound President’s Daughter who starts to question her loyalty to her father “in a present day America that finds itself under authoritarian rule.”
Top pilot director Marcos Siega, who helmed the pilots for the CW series The Vampire Diaries and Batwoman, has come on board to direct the new Lost Boys pilot. Exclusive: The CW in May opted not to pick up pilot The Lost Boys to series but authorized a retooling, including recastings. As part of that, producing studio Warner Bros. TV has released the entire cast of the pilot with the exception of Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro whose options have been extended. The duo will co-star in the new, reworked pilot, which will likely film by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, pilot Glamorous starring Ben J. Pierce, which was not picked up in early May with the rest of the CW new series but was left in serious contention for a series order, is now dead.
Launching a series adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros horror comedy movie The Lost Boys had been high in the priority list for the CW brass. The network first tapped Rob Thomas to conceive and write a Lost Boys series during the 2016-17 development season.

The CW just picked up three of its six pilots to series, Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew. Here is the status of the three that were left off, Glamorous, The Lost Boys and Jane the Novela.
Glamorous remains in contention, with a pickup decision will come soon, possibly before the CW’s May 16 upfront presentation; The Lost Boys will be retooled and re-piloted off-cycle; while the Jane the Virgin offshoot Jane the Novela is not going forward.
Glamourous, which hails from Damon Wayans Jr. and his Two Shakes Entertainment, writer Jordon Nardino and CBS TV Studios, had been considered a leading contender alongside Batwoman, Katy Keene and Nancy Drew and was the only original concept in the bunch.
Written by Nardino, Glamorous centers on a gender-nonconforming recent high school graduate (Ben J. Pierce) who lands the gig of a lifetime interning at a cosmetics company whose products he panned on YouTube.

"Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire." Back in 2016, it was reported that The CW was developing a TV series based on The Lost Boys, the beloved 1987 horror comedy about boardwalk bloodsuckers and young vampire hunters. While the news front on the project has been quiet over the past couple of years, it's now been revealed that The CW has ordered a pilot episode of the potential The Lost Boys series, in addition to pilot episodes for three other projects.
Deadline reports that The CW has ordered a Lost Boys pilot episode written by Heather Mitchell. Rob Thomas (iZombie and Veronica Mars) had previously been developing The Lost Boys series, and he'll serve as executive producer alongside Mitchell, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz, and Bill Bindley, with Rebecca Franko on board as a producer.

The CW has picked up four pilots, including one for the potential spinoff of “Jane the Virgin.”
“Jane the Novela” is described as a telenovela anthology series in the tradition of “Jane the Virgin,” where each season is based on a different fictional novel “written by” Jane Villanueva and narrated by the author herself. The first installment takes place at a Napa Valley Vineyard, where family secrets–and family members–don’t stay buried for long.
Original series writer and co-executive producer Valentina Garza is onboard to write and executive produce the new project. “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Snyder Urman, series star Gina Rodriguez, and series executive producers Ben Silverman and Brad Silberling are set to executive produce the spinoff, with Silberling also attached to direct. Joanna Klein, Emily Gipson, Jorge Granier and Gary Pearl will also executive produce. CBS Television Studios will produce along with Sutton Street Productions,...

As usual, the CW made the bulk of its pilot pickups in one fell swoop, and the network is betting heavily on IP this year. It greenlighted four pilots tonight — all based on well known titles — two spinoffs of existing CW series, Riverdale and Jane the Virgin, a Nancy Drew drama and The Lost Boys reboot. The join the recently greenlighted Batwoman pilot starring Ruby Rose.
The Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene, which follows four Archie Comics characters, and telenovela anthology series Jane the Novela both hail from the creative auspices behind the original series: Jane creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, star Gina Rodriguez, exec producers Ben Silverman and director Brad Silberling. and studio CBS TV Studios, and Riverdale creator/executive producer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. TV.
The untitled Nancy Drew drama, inspired by the classic mysteries, comes from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire and CBS TV Studios, while The Lost Boys is from Rob Thomas’s Spondoodle, Gulfstream TV and Warner Bros TV.
I hear the CW is not done picking up pilots, with The La Complex reboot among the scripts that have been heating up. As usual, the network split its pickups down the middle between its sister studios tonight, with two orders to Wbtv and two to CBS TV Studios.
The CW originally developed a series adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros horror comedy movie The Lost Boys with Thomas writing during the 2016-17 development season. While the project didn’t go to pilot, the network brass remained very high on the title and had been looking to redevelop it. While Thomas has been busy with his Veronica Mars reboot for Hulu, a take by writer Heather Mitchell got everyone excited, and the new incarnation picked up steam this development season.
Katy Keene, centered around the budding fashionista in New York City, is the second Riverdale spinoff. The First, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, started at the CW before moving to Netflix where it has been a breakout hit. Aguirre-Sacasa, who co-wrote Katy Keene with Riverdale co-executive producer Michael Grassi, said last summer that the new offshoot is “very different from Riverdale.”
Today’s orders give Berlanti Pords. two pilots at the CW, Katy Keene and Batwoman.
Written by Jane scribe Valentina Garza and directed by Silberling, Jane the Novela is envisioned as a soapy, telenovela-inspired anthology series in the tradition of Jane the Virgin, where each season is based on a different fictional novel “written by” Jane Villanueva and narrated by the author herself. The first installment takes place at a Napa Valley Vineyard.
The spinoff already had gotten a blinking green light, with the mothership’s casting directors Alyson Silverberg and Jonathan Clay Harris tapped to cast it.
Written by Noga Landau (The Magicians), the untitled Nancy Drew project is centered on 18-year-old Nancy Drew in the summer after her high school graduation.
Launching a Nancy Drew TV series has been a priority for CBS TV Studios, which has the rights to the the classic Ya mystery books originally published by Stratemeyer Syndicate and later Simon & Schuster. The studio developed two Nancy Drew series over the past three years, Drew at CBS during the 2015-16 development season, which went to pilot starring Sarah Shahi and got close to a series order, and Nancy Drew at NBC this past season. Both incarnations, from writers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater and producer Dan Jinks, were conceived as sequels to the books, with an adult Nancy Drew at the center.

Exclusive: Riverdale star K.J. Apa has been set to play a lead role in The Hate U Give, the George Tillman Jr-directed drama for Fox 2000. In a move somewhat reminiscent of the All The Money In The World re-shoots that replaced Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plummer, Fox 2000 has authorized a little over a week of re-shoots after the studio dropped Kian Lawley. Unlike the Getty kidnap drama, this film hasn’t yet been dated for release, but the film had pretty much wrapped.
The drastic move was necessitated after videos surfaced in which the YouTube star Lawley uttered several racist slurs. Though Lawley apologized, the slurs he used completely undermine a topical movie inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Lawley was quickly dropped as a client by CAA, and now he will be scrubbed from the picture.
