Teresa Lavina is a Spanish film maker based in Galway, Ireland.
Her work focuses on themes of human rights and social justice with a particular focus on under-represented groups. She holds an MA in Creative Practice. Her thesis 'The representation of ethnic minorities on screen in Ireland' awarded her an Academic Excellence Award. She also holds a First Class Honours Degree in Film and Documentary.
Her work has been screened internationally at many cinemas and film festivals. Her film 'Untold Secrets' closed the 2021 Galway Film Fleadh. She has won awards at the Toronto International Film festival (Best Human Rights Film), Vancouver Independent Film Festival (Best Social Justice Film) and the L.A. Independent Film Festival (Best Director and best short documentary 2019) and the Dublin Underground Film Awards (Best Documentary 2019). She has had a recent nomination at Seminci - Valladolid for best documentary in the Time and History Section.
Her work has been funded by RTE, TG4, The Arts Office, Creative Ireland as well as receiving feature funding from Screen Ireland.
She is also the co-creator and co-director of 'Shot By The Sea' film festival in Galway, funded by Galway 2020.
