Brett Goldstein is set to make a guest appearance in Shrinking season two, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The Ted Lasso breakout co-created the Apple TV+ show alongside Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel, who also stars in the Emmy-nominated series.
Details about Goldstein’s character are being kept locked away in the therapist’s desk at this time.
Shrinking follows Segel’s Jimmy, a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules of his career by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. “Jimmy has lost his wife and wants to try a new approach to his loss, but it is unclear how this will help others,” the logline reads.
Goldstein has remained behind the camera as one of the show’s co-creators and executive producers. With his upcoming guest role, he’ll return to acting on an Apple TV+ series, following his role in Ted Lasso.

Shrinking co-creator Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) is stepping in front of the camera in Season 2.
Sources tell Deadline there had been multiple attempts to have Goldstein appear in the Apple dramedy but things didn’t pan out. When the perfect role came along—which btw is currently top secret—he couldn’t say no. He is billed as a guest star in Season 2, which is currently in production.
Shrinking follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own. In addition to Segel, the series stars Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Ted McGinley.
Segel and Williams recently earned individual Emmy Award acting nominations for their portrayal of therapists in the series.

Brett Goldstein was born on 17 July 1980 in the Sutton suburb of London. He began his acting career in 2003 and steadily worked his way up the ladder of British television and film. Goldstein first gained recognition for his roles in various projects like The Bill and Cuckoo, but it was his role in Ricky Gervais‘ series Derek that served as his big break. After the success of Derek, it was Goldstein’s portrayal of Roy Kent in the Primetime Emmy-winning series Ted Lasso that truly propelled him to international stardom. He's here, he's there, he's every-f*cking-where — and we're not talking about Ted Lasso's Roy Kent. "Archie" is the name on everyone's lips this week, although the man in question varies depending on whether you're looking for an iconic actor or a teenage bandleader. On Thursday, December 7, Archie dominates streaming in two new projects: Netflix's The Archies, a Hindi-language musical directed by Zoya Akhtar, and Archie, a four-part biopic about the life and career of Cary Grant, born Archibald Alexander Leach, streaming on BritBox.

The term “milking” is used to describe the exploitation of a certain thing to a shameless level. I prefer not to use the word when I’m writing an article about something, but Apple TV’s Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas has compelled me to do so. I am not a huge fan of Ted Lasso. For my personal taste, the megahit Apple TV show mostly comes off as saccharine-sweet. But the impact it has created on pop culture is undeniable. Naturally, from Apple TV’s perspective, milking something as celebrated as Ted Lasso makes sense in terms of business. But why not make a proper Christmas special instead of the staged extravaganza that Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas is? I mean, when you have the entire cast of Ted Lasso at your service, then why not make them play the parts they’re known for?
Instead of that,...

After weeks of waiting on the edge of our seats to cheer for the inevitable rekindling of Roy Kent and Keeley Jones, our dreams came true - or so we thought.
When Do Roy and Keeley Break Up on "Ted Lasso"?
Like all good things, Keeley and Roy's love story took time to blossom. In season one, Keeley was still deeply entangled with her then-partner, Jamie Tartt. As Keeley's relationship with Jamie started to sour, fans noticed subtle glances and pointed "hellos" between Keeley and Roy that hinted at the desire for something more than friendship.

Phil Dunster had an ace of a day on July 12. Not only did he score his first Emmy nomination — a best supporting actor nod for his work as cocky-turned-compassionate footballer Jamie Tartt on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso — but the 31-year-old also toasted his good fortune by watching Grand Slam action at the All England Club.
“I’m looking over the courts now,” Dunster says as he surveys the scene during the men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches at Wimbledon as his brain volleys back and forth in an attempt to process the news on the eve of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which was called two days after this chat. “It’s an amazing day — and also quite a confusing day in the land of all things acting and the industry.”

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house among the full cast and crew on the last day of filming Ted Lasso‘s season three. The shot was in the fictional Richmond Fc locker room before its championship game against rival West Ham — and before beloved coach Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis (who’s nominated for lead actor and writing in addition to comedy series), was scheduled to return to the U.S. Instead of his usual pep talk, Lasso introduces a video, looking back at the team’s growth. “The tears are real,” says Declan Lowney, who directed this episode and eight others during the three seasons of the 11-time Emmy-winning Apple TV+ series. (Its 10 noms this year include nods to most of the talent mentioned in this story.) Famously based on a 2013 NBC Sports promo, Sudeikis’ depiction of an American college football coach who moves to...

Wednesday night at a joint Apple TV+/Gold Derby FYC event, “Ted Lasso’s” top artisans celebrated their 2023 Emmy nominations at the American Society of Cinematographers Clubhouse in Hollywood, CA. Emmy voters in attendance had a blast answering questions at “Ted Lasso Trivia Night” as they dined on short ribs, salmon, potatoes and fresh veggies and imbibed the “Ted Lasso”-inspired Pimm’s Cup alcoholic drinks. This story about Phil Dunster and “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Over the course of the three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” 14 different actors have been nominated for Emmys for the Apple TV+ comedy about a down-on-his-luck American football coach who somehow ends up managing an English soccer team. But until this year, one key member of the original cast was missing from that list: Phil Dunster, who plays the egotistical, brash star Jamie Tartt, has watched co-stars like series co-creator Jason Sudeikis and castmates Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Nick Mohammed, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift land nominations, while Emmy voters have never quite found room for him in the slate of nominees.

There was a lot to be disappointed by in season 3 of "Ted Lasso," but none bummed me out more than what they did with the show's best character, Roy Kent. Now, I'm not exactly mad about things they did to the character (though the ending of the Roy/Keeley relationship still baffles me). It's more about what they didn't do, and I don't feel like Roy was given all that much to do this season, particularly when it comes to his life outside of Richmond. The first two seasons gave Roy arcs that challenged him to grow as a person, and in season 3, he feels more just like a guy who works for the football club who occasionally gets funny lines to say.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss all the drama in the comedy races.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re back to type about the laughs, which is great because there’s so much drama to this year’s comedy categories. Neither of us was very surprised the TV academy stayed loyal to “Ted Lasso” despite the somewhat rocky reception to its third (and final?) season. By sheer numbers, “Ted Lasso” Season 3 is a stronger nominee than “Ted Lasso” Season 2 — and that the third season scored two editing nominations seemingly speaks to the academy’s undying devotion to the two-time series winner. It would take a lot for me to move it out of my top spot — not that it’s without competition, particularly from “The Bear.

Two years ago, “Ted Lasso” premiered its second season on July 23, just 10 days after Emmy nominations were announced. It was a strategic move, of course, to keep the Apple TV+ hit top of mind for voters as Phase 2 voting approached in August. Among the show’s 20 nominations for its breakout first season were four in Best Comedy Supporting Actor, and because of that, “Ted” was not predicted to win the award at the time. “Saturday Night Live” duo Kenan Thompson and Bowen Yang occupied the top two spots in the odds until two days before the ceremony, when “Ted” star and writer Brett Goldstein surged to first place and then walked away with the trophy. On the long list of “Ted Lasso” creators, it can be easy to overlook the name of Brendan Hunt. AFC Richmond brought some of its top players and an esteemed journalist to the Monte-Carlo Television Festival after the soccer team at the heart of Apple TV+ series “Ted Lasso” concluded its final season.
Kola Bokinni, Billy Harris, Cristo Fernandez and James Lance bid a fond farewell to the show in Monaco. But is it truly good-bye? When asked about it, Harris replied: “We’re still pretty much together. We were in L.A. last week, and now we’re in Monte-Carlo. I suppose we’re enjoying the fruits of our labor.” Lance chimed in, saying: “The show may be over, but we’re just getting started, aren’t we? We’re still here, having a great time.”
When it comes to those hoping for a fourth season, Lance said: “There’s always hope.” His co-stars echoed together, “Believe,” the rallying cry that their manager, Ted Lasso, instilled in the team.

There’s a long history of great actors who have never won an Emmy Award. Hugh Laurie has a total of 10 Emmy nominations with zero wins for his work but the most glaring oversight is that after six nominations for his iconic role on “House” he never took home the prize. But that’s nothing compared to Angela Lansbury, who went home empty-handed a whopping 18 times. But they’re in good company – including the likes of Jackie Gleason, Desi Arnaz Jr. and Phylicia Rashad.
With Emmy voting starting, I wanted to highlight some shows and performances that have so far gone overlooked by the Emmy Awards. Most of the programs I chose have been completely shut out by the Academy.
This story about Phil Dunster and “Ted Lasso” first appeared in the Comedy Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Ask “Ted Lasso” fans to name their favorite storyline of the surprisingly super-sized Season 3 and you’ll likely get a unanimous answer: the burgeoning bromance between Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster). The relationship would have been unimaginable in Season 1, when the two alpha males openly despised each other. But the bad blood was wiped clean by Jamie’s transformation from AFC Richmond bad boy to team sweetheart.
“I made a petition that I signed 25,000 times myself and gave it to the writers every day so that they would start writing Roy and Jamie scenes, because it was sort of my raison d’etre for a while,” Dunster said, smiling. “Brett is a huge part of why people enjoy that story because you can see him fighting...

On the first season of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso, Jamie Tartt, portrayed by English actor Phil Dunster, was introduced as a cocky, selfish football player who thought very highly of himself and, well, only himself. But by season three, his attitude had changed, and he’d become not only a lovable team player, but someone who openly displayed his vulnerability and emotionality. Certainly, Ted Lasso aficionados appreciate the fact that the Mancunian accent Dunster donned for the character was further developed this past season, resulting in fan favorites like “It’s just poop-eh. Let it flow,” and “Holeh guacamoleh.”
For audiences watching the third season — still unclear whether it’s the last, given that the show’s creators have repeatedly said they envisioned a three-season run for Jason Sudeikis’ title character — it was a refreshing full-circle moment to see Jamie’s arc change like this, and even Dunster didn...

On their latest shows, Brett Goldstein and Theo James have created characters who unpeel deeper truths beyond their hunky appearances. Goldstein, who’s won two Emmys for portraying soccer player and coach Roy Kent on “Ted Lasso,” returned for the Apple TV+ comedy’s third season. James joined the second season of HBO’s “The White Lotus,” set in Italy and from creator Mike White, as a chiseled, privileged vacationer.
Theo James: How did you end up writing for “Ted Lasso”?
Brett Goldstein: I’d done a pilot for Bill Lawrence. The pilot didn’t get picked up, but we stayed in touch, and he knew I was a writer as well as an actor. When people ask me for advice, I’m always like, there’s no magic phone call. It doesn’t happen. But I did get a magic phone call here, from Bill, out of the blue,...

[This story contains spoilers for “So Long, Farewell,” the season three finale of Ted Lasso.]
Ten days after the season three finale of Ted Lasso left fans wondering if this was truly the end of the hit Apple TV+ series, its stars reunited at a For Your Consideration Emmys event on Saturday night to weigh in on that final episode and the show’s mysterious future.
Though Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and Brendan Hunt were forced to miss the event amid the writers strike and rules that WGA members can’t currently promote their projects, Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Phil Dunster, Jeremy Swift and Cristo Fernández were among the stars in attendance at the TV Academy event.
Dunster joked that when reading the final episode script and seeing how everything would wrap up, “I remember the WhatsApp group with everyone on was full of like, ‘Bastards, you made me cry,’ and it was really sad. It’s like being at school, and school finishes, and...

A tweet went out this morning that suggests a new coaching team that’s made up of Beard (Brendan Hunt), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Nathan (Nick Mohammed) could be in the works for a season four or spinoff of Ted Lasso. To add to the mystery, Mohammed responded with an emoji suggesting that he was keeping his lips zipped.

This post contains spoilers for the season 3 finale of "Ted Lasso."
The third season of "Ted Lasso" has been called an endurance test, but for those who endured, the protracted, 660-minute season (and possibly series) is now finally over. It ended with an episode entitled, "So Long, Farewell," and never mind the musical number of that name (inspired by "The Sound of Music"), because I prefer to read that title without the comma, as if even the creators of "Ted Lasso" realized this season was so long.
One of the more polarizing subplots in "Ted Lasso" season 3 was the redemption of Nate Shelley (Nick Mohammed), who made a heel turn at the end of season 2, only to get a girlfriend, turn around on his other heel, and suddenly become a nice guy again. /Film's Ben Pearson called Nate's season 3 arc "a catastrophic storytelling decision from which the show never recovered.

The following piece contains spoilers for “So Long, Farewell,” the Season 3 finale of “Ted Lasso”
Add Emmy Award nominee Nick Mohammed to the list of “Ted Lasso” stars expecting the Season 3 finale to be the show’s last episode. Asked in an interview with Deadline if he felt “the chapter is closed” in terms of the story “Ted Lasso” has told over three seasons, Mohammed said, “Completely.”
“We obviously knew where it was headed, and we read all the scripts, and we were doing all these interviews. In our heads, we’re like, ‘Wait. Once you’ve seen the series, you won’t probably won’t want anymore because there’s so much closure, so much catharsis in it being three seasons,’” Mohammed said.
In the final episode of Season 3, Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) resigns as coach of AFC Richmond and moves back home to Kansas to be with his son.

Looking back at Season 1 of Apple’s hit comedy series Ted Lasso, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) is figuring out the kind of woman she wants to be, and what man could offer her the love and support she needs—all while Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) compete for her attention and affection.
But across three seasons, Keeley really came into her own as she discovered the value and love she sought out from others resided within herself. She was complete all on her own but it sure was lovely to share it all with friends like Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and even Roy and Jamie, who slowly warmed to one and now are in a full fledge bromance.
Temple breaks down Keeley’s journey across three seasons, picks between Roy and Jamie as her character’s true love and whether or not she’d be into a female football spinoff.

The Season 3 (and presumed series) finale of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso brought closure for most of the characters, including Phil Dunster’s reformed bad boy Jamie Tartt. After one more squabble with foe-turned-friend and mentor Roy Kent over who can date Keeley — a dilemma she easily solved by throwing both of them out of her house — Jamie and Roy are seen in the final seconds having a beer together, sitting alongside Keeley and their AFC Richmond teammates. In the flashforward, Jamie also has a friendly conversation with his father, a sign of a possible reconciliation.
Earlier in the finale, Jaime clinched the win for the team in their final match of the season with a “decoy” trick play Nate came up with back in Season 1.

If “Ted Lasso” has come to an end after three seasons, Emmy-winning star Hannah Waddingham is satisfied with how her character, AFC Richmond team owner Rebecca Welton, said goodbye to the Apple TV+ series.
In the Season 3 finale, Richmond coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) decides to leave the team to move back home to Kansas to be with his son. Rebecca tries to convince Ted to stay to no avail, so instead does the next best thing: she keeps the team but sells 49 percent of the organization’s stock shares back to the loyal fans. It completes an arc for Rebecca that started in Episode 10, “International Break,” when the Richmond team owner admonished her fellow owners for valuing their greed over the sport’s spectators.

This scene is so Epic! Rebecca’s Welton speech was so touching.

The third season of “Ted Lasso” came to an end on Wednesday with a season finale that sure felt like a series ender.
As many fans expected, Season 3 of the Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ comedy series ended with Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) returning back to his Kansas home to be with his son, Henry (Gus Turner). Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso.
Apple’s hit comedy series Ted Lasso wrapped up its third season on Tuesday night and quite possibly the series as we’ve come to know it. But no matter what happens in the future, Hannah Waddingham is proud of all she accomplished as Rebecca Welton and how things ended for her character.
As we revealed in our recap, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) helps AFC Richmond win big against West Ham —mission complete. He moves forward with his plans to return to Kansas to reunite with his son Henry leaving Rebecca and most of the team in tears. But life goes on, as it does, and everything works out as it should.
In the final moments of the episode, Rebecca was departing the airport sad after saying goodbye to Ted when she spots a young girl running outside of the terminal.

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" season 3 has just come to an end, leaving the fictional team of AFC Richmond at a crossroads after their head coach leaves his fish-and-chips-out-of-water life in London behind. Overall, the supposedly last season of the Apple TV+ phenomenon left a lot to be desired, failing to live up to the high points of the first two seasons where the jokes that hit far outweighed the ones that fell flat. While a lot of the episodes in season 3 felt overly long and unnecessarily melodramatic, the overall spirit of the show managed to stay intact thanks to Jason Sudeikis' naively positive "aw shucks" attitude as Ted.
Ted isn't only a sports fan, he's a pop culture aficionado raised on Thursday night primetime sitcoms from the '80s. Throughout its entire run, "Ted Lasso" has peppered in a number of clever references to the golden years of U.

If you were watching "Ted Lasso" this season, there's a good chance that you loved how Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt fostered a true bond based on respect, true adoration, and platonic love. You probably were thriving when our two favorite headstrong idiots started finding common ground and the understanding they had always been searching for in one another. I was. It was, in my eyes, one of the major highlights of the entire season.
You see, anyone with eyes could tell that Brett Goldstein's Roy and Phil Dunster's Jamie should be friends, but most of us were undecided on whether or not they actually could. There were so many obstacles standing in their way, the largest of which was pride. And with the emotional immaturity these two have worn on their sleeves since the day we met them,...

Brett Goldstein channeled his Ted Lasso lovable curmudgeon character Roy Kent at the beginning and end of a farewell Instagram message marking the hit comedy’s Season 3 (and presumed — but never confirmed — series) finale.
“And now the end is here… Whistle!!,” Goldstein opened with, the last part being one of Roy’s signature lines as his metal allergy has prevented him from using an actual whistle.
And, since Roy cannot formulate a thought without at least one F-word, Goldstein ended his note to fans with “It’s been fxxxing wonderful. Let’s go Greyhounds…”
In between, Goldstein, who has won two Emmys for playing Roy and also serves as a writer on the show, reflected on his “truly magical” experience and acknowledged the Ted Lasso writers, cast members and crew, including stars/co-creators/exec producers Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt and co-creators/exec producers Bill Lawrence and Joe Kelly.

The finale of “Ted Lasso” Season 3 had viewers feeling some type of way.
Whether it be sadness over the possibility that the show is truly over for good or anger at how certain relationships closed out at the end of the season, fans have gotten as vocal as the AFC Richmond crowd, and maybe even Manchester City in some cases!
“Ted Lasso! Inspiring, emotional, frustrating, loving, funny! You experience every emotion under the sun, and I have to say one of the best shows ever!” fan Shaun Winter wrote. “What a truly brilliant program! I pray they make more @TedLasso.”
Jack Benjamin wrote a tweet sharing the same sentiment.
“As the late, great Jim Valvano said: We need to laugh, think and cry every day. The show did that in each episode,” he said.

"Ted Lasso" mastered the pop culture reference. Unlike many shows, which immediately date themselves by referencing recent pop culture landmarks and feel forced when they do so, "Ted Lasso" found a way to naturally insert references in its dialogue, and into its scripts.
The characters love to talk about what they like, and more importantly, they get very excited when that love is shared by others. Despite the problems in season three — its double-sized episode lengths and unfocused story — the season gave us several all-time great "Ted Lasso" moments and storylines, like Colin's coming out speech, or the fact that Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent became the best parts of the show. Whether this is actually the end or we get to see more of AFC Richmond, this show has been a true gift.

Spoiler Alert: This review contains spoilers from the series finale of “Ted Lasso,” now streaming on Apple TV+.
Here’s a scoop: There will be a fourth season of “Ted Lasso.” Actually, it has already aired, and it was not great.
“Ted Lasso” grew out a character created by Jason Sudekis and friends for NBC Premier League promos, a Kansas City-based football coach who somehow finds himself coaching the other football in London for AFC Richmond, a chronically downtrodden franchise. It’s a typical fish-out-of water premise, which is a classic comedy trope, but comes with some limitations — namely, when the fish becomes an amphibian and begins to love land life. Mindful of those constraints, “Lasso” debuted in 2020 to acclaim, with critics lauding its cock-eyed optimism as the world struggled with a deadly pandemic. Season 1’s 10 episodes ran an average of 30 minutes apiece, totaling 299 minutes for the season.

Brett Goldstein is saying goodbye to his journey on “Ted Lasso.” So, does that mean the show is ending?
The actor and writer on the Apple TV+ series took to Instagram on Tuesday, the day of the Season 3 finale’s release, to celebrate his journey as the gruff-but-lovable Roy Kent on the show, and pay tribute to the cast and crew who made the show a “truly magical experience.”
“A show about love, made with love, by the funniest, most beautiful and kindest people on the planet,” Goldstein wrote on his Instagram, alongside a solemn photo of Jason Sudeikis as the titular character. “From all the writers, to every member of the crew to every single actor, no matter how small their part, to all the postproduction team, everyone brought their A-game and their warmth to the making of ‘Ted Lasso.’ I will miss getting to live in that world with them.
