NBCUniversal may have kicked off TV’s upfront week with the Wicked trailer, Snoop Dogg, and adorable penguins, but it closed Monday with a more dedicated pitch to one of its marquee divisions: It’s Spanish-language business Telemundo.
Held inside The Shed’s eight-story glass-encased McCourt space, Telemundo focused its tight presentation on its recent ratings wins over arch-rival TelevisaUnivision, with some not so subtle jabs at its competitor.
“We constantly change and give our audiences what they want, while others continue to do the same thing, night after night, week after week, year after year,” Telemundo’s new chairman, Luis Fernandez, told the crowd.
“We are known for being innovators, and filling the void of content to represent Latinos from all walks of life,” added Cesar Conde, the head of the NBCU News Group who also oversees Telemundo. “No other media company can do that because we are the...

Wisin & Yandel’s first album, Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio, came out in 2000. For millennial hip-hop heads, that was the year Outkast’s Stankonia and Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele dropped. For rock fans, that’d be the year Radiohead released Kid A. And for zoomers, well, that was three years before Olivia Rodrigo was even born.
All of that is a long-winded way of saying Wisin has been around for a minute now. But if his new album, Mr. W, is any indication, he’s an O.G. who...

When life gives you lemons, you have to make lemonade - and that's exactly what Shakira did after heartbreak. When the Colombian pop star learned in 2022 that Gerard Piqué, her partner of 11 years and the father of her two sons, was cheating on her, I'm sure it felt as if her life was falling apart. But when she couldn't bear the pain and the betrayal, she did what most musicians do - she turned it into art.
The first song Shakira released that was directly related to the breakup was 2022's "Te Felicito" with Puerto Rican Latin trap artist Rauw Alejandro. The song not only marked Shakira's comeback, it was also the first in a string of singles that would display her healing journey to the world and eventually become part of her latest highly anticipated album, "Las Mujeres Ya no Lloran," which was released on March 22.

NBC saw solid ratings on Wednesday night with the airing of two Christmas specials
Airing from 8-10 p.m. on Nov. 29, the annual “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special reached an audience of 7 million people when accounting for three days of delayed viewing across NBC, Peacock and digital platforms. The special was the most-watched program on TV that night, and improved on last year’s viewership by 7%. In the key adults 18-49 demographic, it earned a strong 0.8 rating.
This year’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” was hosted by Kelly Clarkson and featured performances by Chloe Bailey, Adam Blackstone, Cher, David Foster, Liz Gillies, Darlene Love, Seth MacFarlane, Barry Manilow, Katharine McPhee, Keke Palmer, Carly Pearce and Manuel Turizo. The Billboard Latin Music Awards are almost upon us. And with it, the Latin music industry is kicking into overdrive as the who's who of genres like reggaetón, salsa, música Mexicana y mas battle for chart supremacy over the next few weeks. But with the current lineup of awards shows dedicated to celebrating music from across Latin America, it can be easy to forget that this level of representation and earning power had to be cultivated over decades by the united Latine voices of yesteryear. So, in honor of that contribution, Popsugar sat down with Billboard's Chief Content Officer of Latin-Español, acclaimed music expert and bestselling author Leila Cobo, to dive into the history of the award show, how it helped create the market we know and love today, and why it remains relevant after all these years.

Put on your cowboy boots and sombrero: Shakira is going the corridos route. On Wednesday, the Colombian superstar released her empowering corrido, titled “El Jefe,” alongside Fuerza Régida.
The track follows the story of a man from a small town who dreams of getting out and becoming a “boss with potential.” The video shows Jop, Fuera Régida’s frontman, playing the role of a hard worker carrying heavy boxes while singing the track’s lyrics about having a “de mierda” employer.

Over the course of a career spanning four decades, Shakira has gone from a singer-songwriter popular amongst Latin music fans to a global legend. With multiple, chart-topping albums in both Spanish and English, the Colombian artist has not only joined the ranks of musical icons like Cher, Prince, and Madonna, she's also very much been in a league of her own. So, it's only fitting that at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards, Shakira will be honored with the Video Vanguard Award, a merit given to notable music industry figures who have demonstrated considerable impact on music and pop culture at large. The 46-year-old is also set to perform at the VMAs for the first time in 17 years.

Both Manuel Turizo and Grupo Frontera have been enjoying massive success over the last year: Turizo made a splash with 2000, the eclectic album he released in March, while Grupo Frontera saw major breakthroughs with El Comienzo, the LP that they dropped this August that includes the Bad Bunny-assisted smash “un x100to.” It makes sense that the heavyweights would want to combine their growing star power and join forces — which is exactly what they’ve done on the new lovesick song “De Lunes a Lunes.”

Some might say that 2022 was not Shakira's year. It was a difficult time for the Colombian songstress after she discovered that her romantic partner of 11 years and father of her two children, Barcelona soccer athlete Gerard Piqué, had been cheating on her with another woman. To make matters more challenging, add in some tax-fraud troubles that she also experienced, and you have what some may call a year from hell.
But since Shakira's breakup from Piqúe, she has come back stronger and more resilient than ever. The artist has put out back-to-back singles that have broken numerous records, including "Monotonía," which had the biggest debut ever for a woman on Spotify in Mexico and Colombia. Her famous diss track "Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol.53" from January debuted at No.9 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, making her the first woman to reach the top 10 on the chart with a song in Spanish.

Shakira attracted even more attention than usual at the Viktor and Rolf Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2023/2024 show.
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer wore a white coat dress with the word “No” in large letters taking up most of her upper front for Paris Fashion Week.
On social media, Shakira shared a video of herself wearing the dress and wrote in the caption, “Yes is overrated.”
The expressive dress is a gesture to Viktor and Rolf’s Fall 2008 show collection.
“We love fashion, but it’s going so fast,” the designers told Vogue. “We wanted to say ‘No’ this season.”

In line with her dress and Viktor and Rolf’s statement, it seems that Shakira is also saying no in this season of her life. In April, she said goodbye to Spain as she and her children moved elsewhere, months after her split with former soccer player ex-husband Gerard Piqué.

You never know who will join Chris Martin onstage at a Coldplay concert! During the group’s show in Zurich Sunday, tennis legend Roger Federer joined the band to play the shaker during “Don’t Panic.”
Martin welcomed the tennis star onstage as “our original band member,” jokingly referring to a percussionist who joined the band but left after three months at the beginning of the band’s career.
“The band is back together,” he quipped before they performed the opening track on the group’s 2000 album Parachutes.

Even from across the sea of pixels that comprise our zoom call, Jay Wheeler's energy is infectious. He's just spent the majority of the day in a press junket, and I am one of his last calls. But if the 29-year-old artist would rather be doing something else, it doesn't show. When Wheeler enters the room, he is in high spirits, playfully joking around with his team before sitting down in a director's chair flanked by art from his latest EP, "Emociones 1.5." Two things immediately become crystal clear: First, that Wheeler is set to make 2023 his biggest year yet. And second, that despite his talent and tremendous success, the Puerto Rican artist remains as humble and genuine as they come.
Born José Ángel López Martínez, Wheeler's humility is a product of humble beginnings, namely a childhood spent in the small town of Salinas in southern Puerto Rico, a place...

If there's a song we're predicting to be hearing all summer, it's Sebastían Yatra's latest feel-good, single, "Vagabundo," which features fellow Colombian singers Manuel Turizo and Béele. The upbeat and vibey merengue track reflects on the feeling of pretending to have moved on after publicly running into an ex. The video is accompanied by a music video directed by Joaquin Cambre and features cameos from actress Daniela Botero, performer Valeria Sandoval, and TikToker El Mindo.
The music video portrays a group of friends enjoying themselves at a boat party on a warm summer day over Miami waters. The guys are having a blast even flirting with other women, but their fun unexpectedly comes to an end after the exes are confronted with the tension that still exists between them.

It's been a year since Manuel Turizo's hit single "La Bachata" went viral, and the Colombian singer hasn't slowed down since. The Latin Grammys are arguably the highest recognition in Hispanic music around the world. This year the award show will likely host some of the biggest and most acclaimed Latin stars. With names like Shakira, Karol G, and Rauw Alejandro all in the mix, who will nab some noms come nomination’s day?
The biggest name in Latin music right now is Karol G. The Colombian singer has made history with her album “Mañana Será Bonito” becoming the first all-Spanish album by a female artist to top the Billboard 200.
