"Star Trek" is all about exploring the unknown, a spirit that "Strange New Worlds" honors with its episodic, socially-conscious storytelling. The penultimate episode of season 2, "Subspace Rhapsody," will take "Star Trek" where it has never gone before — to its first musical episode.
Trekkies got plenty of treats at 2023's San Diego Comic-Con, including a surprise early premiere of "Those Old Scientists" — Strange New Worlds" season 2, episode 7. That episode, a crossover with the animated series "Star Trek: Lower Decks," defied both time and medium. As a cherry on top, the trailer for "Subspace Rhapsody" also premiered, showing how "Strange New Worlds" will continue to make "Trek" history. To underscore the premise of "Subspace Rhapsody," the trailer is scored with an acapella version of the series' theme while the title cards are right out of an old Hollywood musical.

This post contains spoilers for season 1 of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds."
The first season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" has a Blu-ray set to be released into the universe, which includes (among other things) a gag reel of the cast breaking down on set. Jess Bush, who plays Nurse Chapel on the show, especially loves that gag reel. "I get all warm and fuzzy watching it," she told me in a recent interview. "There's the story and then there's behind the scenes moments that touch a special place in your heart."
I talked with Bush about that gag reel (including who the actor was that made her laugh more than everyone else) as well as what we might see of Chapel in season 2 of the show, particularly in her relationships with M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Spock (Ethan Peck).
Note: This interview has been lightly edited for clarity and brevity.

Emergency NYC is a documentary series created by Adi Barash and Ruthie Shatz about emergency services in New York City.
New York, a city with almost nine million inhabitants and nine million possible emergencies every day. Emergencies: New York takes us into the daily life of its health workers, from doctors to nurses, ambulance drivers, and even helicopter pilots to beat the infernal traffic of Manhattan.
A documentary that, despite its fast-paced subject matter, manages to take itself calmly, explaining how the system works from within and how these men and women manage to help every day in the most urgent cases.
A documentary that seeks its essence of divulgation: putting Dziga Vertov’s “cinema eye” in New York City a century later and looking more for the story and getting closer to the men and women who achieve these miracles every day. It wants to more than just highlight...

The Wonder director Sebastián Lelio and star Florence Pugh joined Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles awards-season event to talk about their Netflix film and the power and fanaticism of faith.
The film is a psychological period drama that follows an English nurse’s immaculate investigation in the Irish countryside. Set in 1862 Ireland, Lib Wright (Pugh) is brought to a small religious village to investigate the validity of a young girl (Kíla Lord Cassidy) who has claimed to have survived without eating for months by the grace of God. Tom Burke, Ciarán Hinds and Elaine Cassidy also star.

The very first thing you see in The Wonder, a historical drama set in 19th-century Ireland, is not the rolling green plains of the nation’s countryside. It’s not Dublin’s muddy, sooty streets, nor the dark-lit taverns where bearded men curse and drink ale or the rural family cottage wherein a miracle may or may not be taking place. We’ll get to bask in the splendor of those backdrops soon enough.

Chicago Med star Marlyne Barrett has revealed she was diagnosed with uterine and ovarian cancer in July.
“In April, I had a hernia repaired. So initially, it was supposed to be a three-month recovery and I was going to be fine. And something started happening where I had this accumulation of fluid that I couldn’t shake,” she told People, which broke the news Tuesday.
“I was definitely concerned that something was going on but I trucked on with the work,” she continued. “So by the time I went to see the doctor, they were very concerned. And when they did the Ct scan, they found that I had an ovarian and uterine mass that had grown quite possibly to the size of a football.”

The tale of the young, star-crossed lovers known as "Romeo & Juliet" has been told and retold for centuries, but Hulu and 20th Century Studios have a whole new perspective to bring to the table. In a comedic twist on William Shakespeare's classic romantic tragedy, the tale of "Romeo & Juliet" is being retold through the lens of Rosaline, the gal Romeo was exclusively dating before he ran into Juliet at a party and completely turned his entire life (and family) upside down. Rosaline is devastated when she learns that her boyfriend has left her for someone new, and goes on a mission to break the two of them up and win back the man of her dreams.
"Rosaline" looks to be taking the anachronistic approach of Baz Luhrmann's "Romeo + Juliet" and inverting it, with classic period garb and set dressings injected with contemporary language and sensibilities.

The Chicago Med season premiere got right into the action, revealing what happened in Halstead’s apartment building after the fire started.
At the end of last season, Milena Jovanovic (the undercover cop) was being hidden by Dr. Dylan Scott in the renovated apartment building that Halstead now owns.
Criminals that Jo was hiding from descended upon the building, setting it on fire while Jo, Scott, Halstead, and Hannah Asher were all still inside. Then, Jo and one of the men got shot, increasing the drama as the show went into its summer hiatus.
Chicago Med Season 8, Episode 1 picked up right at the fire, with Halstead and Scott trying to save the life of the man who had been shot. Meanwhile, Jo, who had also been shot, went out another exit to find safety.
