Spoiler Alert: This post contains details of tonight’s Succession series finale.
In the end, heavy is the sycophantic head that wears the crown, as the series finale of Succession proved tonight.
“You f*ckin’ grabbed the crown, the two of you,” proclaims Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook) as she sticks another blade into her hapless brothers in the “With Open Eyes” episode of the Jesse Armstrong-created satire. “Dad died and you f*cking grabbed the crown, and you pushed me out, so I don’t know why I’m the (expletive) here,” she tells the still scheming Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and bruised Roman (Kieran Culkin) with a beautiful Caribbean sunset in the background.
“So, f*ck off, okay? I won and I’m sorry for winning, but I did …I played it better.”
Not really, at least not in the way Snook’s character thought.
For all the gloating,...

“Succession” is officially named the best drama series of the year.
The hit HBO show, which previously won the title in 2020, took home the award for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2022 Emmy Awards on September 12. The series also was recognized for outstanding casting at the Creative Arts Emmys last week.
“Succession” follows the cutthroat campaign to take over fictional media conglomerate Waystar Royco, run by aging patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). His children, played by Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Alan Ruck, are making moves for the sale of Waystar Royco to benefit themselves. Other family members and employees, portrayed by Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfayden, and J. Smith-Cameron, also angle for a piece of the multi-billion dollar brand.
Prior to the 2022 Emmys, “Succession” has previously won 10 Emmy Awards and has been nominated a total of 48 times. The series this year beat out “Better Call Saul,” “Euphoria,” “Ozark,” “Severance,...

It’s been a while since death has been a central character on a series. 16 years ago, “Six Feet Under” gave us its iconic series finale. And now, creator-writer Samantha Strauss’ pitch dark comedy “The End” aims to capture some of the same messiness and beauty of mortality surrounding one family in Australia. Trouble is, it doesn’t always come together as meaningfully as it should.
The premise is certainly interesting enough, though, amplified by a standout cast to boot. Frances O’Connor plays Kate, a doctor specializing in palliative care. Day in and day out, she comforts people who are sometimes in their final days, offering both medical and emotional guidance to those who may be spiritually depleted. So, you could infer, especially from O’Connor’s wonderfully controlled performance, that death has become somewhat desensitized for Kate. But she is in the business of trying to avoid it as much as possible,...

The world’s had a heck of a time of it since the Doctor was last on our screens. In the season 12 finale – which aired on March 1st, 2020 – Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord was thrown in space prison by the Judoon. And later that same month, we were all imprisoned ourselves as the Covid-19 pandemic took hold and plunged the world into quarantine. But in the Doctor Who New Year’s special, our heroine escapes her bonds. Unfortunately, we’re not quite out of the woods yet ourselves, but “Revolution of the Daleks” still provided a much needed home visit from the Doctor.
Filmed a long time ago in the far away land of 2019, “Revolution” presents us with a stuffed belated Christmas package. Connecting back to the last New Year’s special, it features the rebirth of the Daleks, retooled as Britain’s newest line in security and defense by...

As we begin to pack away the holiday decorations and head back to the mall for the inevitable returns, this new release reminds us of those unfortunate families that aren’t lucky enough to tackle such minor inconveniences. In fact, the mother at the center of this story is completely left to her own devices, without a family aside from a violently abusive ex. She’s now part of the “system”, relying on the government to aide her with the housing of her two grade-school aged tots. In order to keep a roof over their heads she’s nearly drowning in “red tape” and “check-ins’ with often clueless “pencil-pushers”. But what if she somehow built that “roof” and freed her kids from moving from one temporary shelter to the next. But without professional laborers can she construct a home all by Herself?

“I want to keep doing this job!” admits Emmy nominee Kieran Culkin about the overwhelmingly positive reaction to HBO’s “Succession,” which just picked up 18 Emmy nominations. Culkin reveals he never usually cares about how a movie or play is received, but this time, it’s different.
“This is the first time being in a TV show,” he explains. “I’ll work on a movie and then when it’s done, how it’s received is just none of my business. I’ve never cared about it does well or people hate it. I don’t care and sort of the same when I do theater. I’m trying to make it the best. I don’t really need to read reviews. I don’t really care what the response is. So it’s sort of strange because [now] the response does matter!” Watch our exclusive video interview with Culkin above from before the noms announcement.

Samantha Strauss on the set of ‘The End.’
Two days ago Samantha Strauss spent much of the day under the doona, literally crying about the state of the world.
Yesterday Strauss, one of the country’s most successful screenwriters, was back at her computer, working on multiple projects in development for Made Up Stories and Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films, Joanna Werner and See-Saw Films, including a second season of The End.
“I’m incredibly lucky but it is such a time of unparalleled shitness. I still have some scripts to deliver so that will tide me over for a while.” she tells If.
“It does feel like there’s a responsibility for us content makers to work our arses off right now and have a whole lot of local content ready to be made, just as soon as this hell is over.”
Meanwhile writer Shaun Grant is at home in Los Angeles,...
