Disney released a new clip from the upcoming animated kids movie featuring the return of Greg, as he bids his parents farewell for their trip. His mother reassures him that spending time with his brother alone might give them some quality sibling bonding time.
As soon as the parents are out of the situation, however, Rodrick has other plans and immediately ropes Greg into throwing an “epic party”.

The perpetual troubles of a prepubescent protagonist are humorously placed at the center of Disney Plus’ “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” After a successful run of four live-action features adapted from Jeff Kinney’s popular book series, director Swinton Scott refurbishes the franchise as an animated feature, and while the wholesome-minded product feels a tad redundant, it establishes its own identity, occasionally improving upon its cinematic predecessor enough to make it a worthwhile watch.
Scrawny, awkward tween Greg Heffley (Brady Noon) has always tried to avoid embarrassment as much as humanly possible, but life has a funny way of continually making him the butt of the joke. He’s currently sweating his social standing, and the bright red diary his mother bought him isn’t helping matters as it looks far less cool than an inconspicuous journal. He’s hoping that chronicling his pre-teen exploits will serve as the basis...

The 20th Century Studio pics are being produced by 20th Century Animation and Color Force.
The first film in the new franchise, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, will drop on the streamer on December 3. Brady Noon, Ethan William Childress and Chris Diamantopoulos lead the voice cast for the CG film, directed by Swinton Scott.

"Look at these little nerds, out past their bedtime!" Disney has unveiled the first official trailer for another new adaptation of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, this time as an animated movie for streaming on Disney+ this fall. Fox already made four (!!) live-action movies based on this book series by Jeff Kinney, starting with the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid from 2010, ending with Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul in 2017. This new take features animation that sticks to the style of the books, with stick-figure like characters turned into 3D characters. "Here's what you need to know: don't get the cheese touch!" Greg Heffley is an ambitious kid with an active imagination and big plans to be rich and famous. The problem is that he has to survive middle school first. This new Diary of a Wimpy Kid features the voices of Brady Noon as Greg Heffley,...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Mixed-Ish series finale, “Forever Young.”
Childhood doesn’t last forever, but according to Mixed-Ish’s Bow Johnson, it paves the way for the adults we’re meant to be. Mixed-Ish, just days after ABC shared that it has cancelled the Black-ish spinoff, wrapped its two-season run with the Johnson children getting a new set of wheels and a better understanding of responsibility.
“Forever Young” kicked off with present-day Rainbow Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross) in a pizza restaurant with Dre (Anthony Anderson), where she explains the story behind a childhood picture she hopes to recreate for her mother’s 75th birthday. However, present-day Johan (Daveed Diggs) and Santamonica are reluctant to indulge in Bow’s idea, with the former sharing that the photo represents a “horrible day.”
“You lost me, you remember?” he asks Bow.

The actresses behind Mixed-ish‘s Johnson family broke their silence on social media after ABC announced that it will not renew the comedy for a third season.
Arica Himmel, who stars as the younger version of Tracee Ellis Ross’ Rainbow “Bow” Johnson, first posted her reaction to the news on Instagram. She reminisced on her time on the series, following in Ross’ steps and more.
“Ti want to thank our many loyal fans who joined us each week for the last two years on our journey from the commune to the ‘burbs — it has been an amazing experience and I will miss my TV family more than you can imagine,” she said.
Tika Sumpter, who reacted to the cancellation on Twitter and stars as Alicia Johnson, thanked her fans and looked forward to new chapters.

It comes after the network renewed Black-ish for an eighth and final season earlier today and could be mean the end of the -ish franchise on ABC after next season.

The day after Matthew A. Cherry won the Oscar for animated short film, he stepped onto the set of ABC’s “Mixed-ish” to direct the pivotal first season episode “Bad Boys,” which featured themes of abuse of power and saw parents Alicia (Tika Sumpter) and Paul (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) discussing racial profiling with their young son (Ethan William Childress).
Although Cherry hadn’t slept the night before beginning production (as he was celebrating his win), he had prepped for a week with the series’ director of photography Troy Smith, a rarity in the ever-moving machine of TV, because the show just happened to be on hiatus. Having done an episode of “The Red Line,” a limited series centered on a racially charged police shooting, as well as an episode of “The Last O.G.” that also dealt with the cop talk, Cherry was no stranger to such important material.

This marks the first full season pick ups for any of ABC’s fall shows thus far. “Mixed-ish” has received an order for nine more episodes, while “The Rookie” has been picked up for an additional seven. The final episode count for “Stumptown” has not yet been determined.

ABC, the last network to make pickup decisions on its new fall series, has given back orders to comedy Mixed-ish and drama Stumptown. Additionally, the network has ordered additional episodes of sophomore drama The Rookie, which had a 13-episode pickup.
I hear the Black-ish prequel has received an order for nine additional episodes for a full-season 22-episode run. Things are still in flux for dramas Stumptown starring Cobie Smulders and The Rookie starring Nathan Fillion. They are expected to produce at least five additional episodes each for a total of 18, and could deliver 1-2 extra episodes beyond that. Like it is the case with a number of stars these days, I hear Smulders’ deal caps the Stumptown seasons at 18 episodes, though ABC brass would like to get more. I hear The Rookie‘s order could get up to 20 episodes, matching Season 1.
The third new ABC fall series, drama Emergence, was designed for 13-episode season arcs,...

ABC has given full-season pickups to its new fall comedies “Mixed-ish” and “Stumptown,” as well as the sophomore drama “The Rookie,” the network announced on Monday.
That marks full-season orders for two of the three new shows that ABC debuted this fall, leaving only the sci-fi thriller “Emergence” awaiting word of its fate from the network. Meanwhile, “The Rookie,” which was renewed for a 13-episode second season back in May, now has been picked up for a full season.

Fall TV premiere week continues! ABC got in the game tonight with Mixed-ish and Emergence, two very, very different shows that do at least share a sort of fish-out-of-water story. Sort of. Mixed-ish is, of course, a spinoff of Black-ish that's set in the '80s and finds Bow's family leaving their vaguely bad commune and having to adapt to the real world, where being mixed race isn't all that common yet. Tracee Ellis Ross narrates the show, with Arica Himmel playing 12 year-old Bow. Mykal-Michelle Harris plays her little sister Santamonica (played as an adult by Rashida Jones), while Ethan William Childress plays Johan (played as an adult by Daveed Diggs). Mark-Paul Gosselaar and...

black-ish‘s Bow knows medicine. Bow knows how to raise a family. But Bow does not know many common cultural touchstones of the 1970s and 80s, thanks to her early childhood in a peace-and-love commune.
Rainbow Johnson’s upbringing, a frequent punchline on the ABC comedy, now has its own prequel spinoff series: mixed-ish. The title refers both to Bow’s parentage — she’s got a white dad and a black mom — and to the way she and her siblings felt when unforeseen circumstances forced them out of communal living and into the harsh world of 1980s suburbia.

The latest entry in Kenya Barris’ televisual “-ish” universe is “Mixed-ish,” ABC’s new sitcom that follows in the footsteps of “Black-ish” as a heartwarming family comedy with built-in lessons about race and the perception thereof. “Mixed-ish,” unlike the 2018 collegiate spinoff “Grown-ish,” travels back to 1985 to tell a story of family members grappling with their identities at a very specific crossroads in history. On “Black-ish,” Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) has often worked to orient her own experience as a biracial woman with those of her husband, Dre (Anthony Anderson), and their kids, bristling when people don’t consider her “black enough” to understand true struggle. On “Mixed-ish,” she narrates the story of her childhood and the difficulty of growing up in a world in which being biracial was far from the norm. Where Dre’s “Black-ish” voiceover marks the show as snarky and sporadically solemn, Bow’s defines the tone of “Mixed-ish” as heartfelt,...

Mariah Carey and Tracee Ellis Ross embraced their “ish” at Tuesday night’s series premiere event for ABC’s “Mixed-ish” by reflecting on how their biracial identity makes working on the new show even more personal.
“I’m just so thankful that this show exists,” Carey told the assembled crowd during a Q&a with series creator Kenya Barris. “To everyone that’s a fan of the show and of the topic and of the fact that we’ve evolved to a place where we can actually enlighten people, and without going into a whole long drawn out thing, it’s like representation is so important.”
“I actually cried when I watched the pilot,” she shared. “Obviously the humor is all there, but how displaced they are and it just made me feel like, that’s exactly how I felt. I didn’t grow up in a commune, but I might as well have.

The producers and cast of “Mixed-ish” are not out to tell a singular black and white story — but one that showcases and celebrates all shades in between.
“It’s important for me across the board in all of my work to talk about ‘otherness’ and identity and real, grounded characters,” showrunner Karin Gist told Variety at the PaleyFest Fall Previews panel for the new ABC comedy on Saturday. “This is just another example of that — an example of putting something up for everybody to talk about think about have conversations about through these characters that you fall in love with. As it was revealed earlier Monday, Mariah Carey will sing the theme song of Mixed-ish, the latest spinoff of Black-ish, or, as the show’s executive producer Tracee Ellis Ross calls it, “The -Ish” universe. Being biracial herself, it is appropriate that Carey would sing and write the theme song, but her involvement in the show may go beyond that.
“She’s expressed interest in doing an episode,” executive producer and showrunner Karen Gist said during the Mixed-ish panel at TCA.
Joining Gist and Ross on the panel was executive producer Peter Saji as well as cast members Tika Sumpter, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Arica Himmel, Ethan William Childress, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Christina Anthony and Gary Cole. The cast and producers unpacked the details of the spinoff that explores the origin story of Rainbow Johnson.
As Ross points out, Bow’s story hasn’t been explored. More than that, biracial narratives have seldom been explored on television.

Titled “In the Mix”, the track is written by Carey and produced by Carey and Daniel Moore. Sung by Carey, the new theme song will be heard when the series premieres Tuesday, September 24 at 9 Pm on ABC. The news was announced Monday at TCA.
“As a fan of Kenya Barris’ megahit shows, black-ish and grown-ish, I was inspired to connect with Kenya to find a way we could work together,” said Carey. “As a biracial woman in the entertainment industry, there was no way I did not want to be a part of mixed-ish, especially after seeing the pilot, which I loved. ABC’s burgeoning black-ish franchise continues to expand, with the network placing an early-ish series order for a 1980s-set prequel offshoot centered on a young version of Tracee Ellis Ross’ Bow. Now titled mixed-ish, the spinoff follows a 12-year-old Bow (played by relative newcomer Arica Himmel), who is described as emotionally and intellectually brilliant but also clueless, confused and awkward.
The project was initially slated to get a “test run” as a regular standalone episode of black-ish, to air on May 7. But in light of the series order, ABC has decided to hold the episode — titled “Becoming Bow” — until next season.
