Colin Firth is in negotiations to star in the EuropaCorp. submarine disaster movie “Kursk.” Matthias Schoenaerts is also set to topline the film.
Danish helmer Thomas Vinterberg will direct from a script by “Saving Private Ryan” screenwriter Robert Rodat, based on Robert Moore’s book “A Time to Die.”
“Kursk” tells the true story of the K-141 Kursk — the pride of the Russian Navy — a nuclear-powered submarine that sank to the bottom of the Barents Sea in August 2000. As the sailors fought for survival aboard the disabled sub, their families desperately battled political obstacles and impossible odds to save them.
Lisa Ellzey is exec producing the pic for EuropaCorp.
Firth was most starred opposite Nicole Kidman and Jude Law in “Genius,” and can be seen next in Working Title’s “Bridget Jones’s Baby.” He is also expected to reprise his role as Harry Hart in “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
