Poll: Favorite Film Based on an E.M. Forster Novel?
E.M. Forster was a British writer working in the early- to mid-1900s who specialized in stories of the hypocrisy of the class system. The five big-screen films made from his books were nominated for 29 Oscars, including three for Best Picture, and they won a total of eight. All five of those adaptations were released between 1984 and 1992. Forster began to be known for his novels being made into "Merchant-Ivory films", though only three of them were actually produced, written and directed by Merchant-Ivory. A Passage to India (1984) was the last film of the king of British epics, David Lean.
