Dorffeldt not only won German Championships in the women's 4x100m relay in 1934, 1937, and 1938, but also was runner-over in both the 800 meters in 1932 and the 100 meters in 1937. Moreover, Ilse was a member of the 4x100m relay team that set a world record in the semifinals and led the final in the 1936 Olympics until a missed baton exchange in the final leg caused them to be disqualified. In addition, Dorffeldt was a team member of two 4x200m relay world records in 1938 and 1940. After retiring from competitions Ilse went on to become a school teacher who taught sports, history, and German language in Banzendorf and later in East Berlin. She died at age 80 on September 14, 1992.
