His musical journey started at a very early age. At the age of 13, he won interstate competition as a singer and became famous in his home town ghaziabad.
At the age of 17 he came to Mumbai to become the part of the music Fraternity. Initially he did a lot of stage shows as a singer with legends like Mohammad Rafi ji, Mahendra KapoorJi, Mukesh Ji, Gurdasman Ji, Asha Bhosle and many others.
On Realising his passion for composing he started assisting Hans Raj Behl as a very well known Music composer of the era. He worked under his guidance and learnt the techniques of composing and arrangements. It was only in 1970 he got his first break as a Music Director. Since then it was no looking back for him.
He has around 50 Punjabi movies like National Award winner Chand Pardeshi, Mela MItra Daa, Yari Humra Di and others to his credit. He has done 15 hindi films, 15 bhojpuri films, 10 Rajasthani films. Apart from the films he is a successful name in devotional music. He has done around 600+ devotional non devotional albums in various languages with all well know artistes starting from Lata Mangeshkar, Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhoshle, Narendra Chanchal, Gurdasman Mann, Hans Raj Hans, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Sukhvinder Singh and many more...He has worked with legends and the youngsters and still going on.
Achievements: National Award for Punjabi film Chan Pardesi, and Documentary film hemkund sahib. Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2009 for his significant contribution in music.
