Clu Gulager was born William Martin Gulager in Holdenville, Hughes County, Oklahoma. His nickname was given to him by his father for the clu-clu birds (known in English as martins, like his middle name) that were nesting at the Gulager home at the time Clu was born. He grew up on his uncle's ranch as a cowhand and when he was old enough he joined the United States Marine Corps for a stint from 1946-1948. He got the acting bug being in army plays so when he left he used the GI Bill of Rights to study acting. During this time he met his wife, actress Miriam Byrd-Nethery. They wed in 1952 and had two children: John (born 1957) and Tom (born 1965) The couple was married for more than 50 years until her death in 2003 from cancer.
Gulager's career started off as bit parts on popular western shows usually playing the heavy. Shows like Wanted Dead or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, Laramie, Riverboat. He scored big with The Untouchables as "Mad Dog Coll", which led to him being offered the role of "Billy the Kid" on The Tall Man from 1960-1962, which also starred Barry Sullivan as "Pat Garrett". The show was pulled after two seasons reportedly because the powers that were didn't like kids seeing Billy the Kid as a hero.
His next big break was playing Deputy Emmett Ryker on The Virginian from 1964-1968. During this time he also fared very well as Lee Marvin's sidekick in the 1964 TV film The Killers, which was considered too violent for TV so it went to theaters. Having being burned out being a TV star he tried to break into films, mostly as a character actor. His stand out films were The Last Picture Show (1971, playing Ellen Burstyn's lover), McQ (1974) with John Wayne, and A Force of One (1979) with Chuck Norris, with whom he would later work in the 1990s on Walker, Texas Ranger.
Gulager was also cast in San Francisco International Airport, with Lloyd Bridges, which failed big time. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s he was in almost every show around, playing bit parts. Then the unthinkable happened: he found a second career as a horror film actor; he followed the footsteps of other TV actors who were stuck in TV hell, like Doug McClure (his costar from The Virginian) and Christopher George. Both men found new careers in B-movies and late night horror films. Gulager finally got a lead part in Dan O'Bannon's cult classic The Return of the Living Dead (1985). He also was in A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985).
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he appeared in TV and in the occasional horror flick. In 2005 he started acting in his son's horror films -- the Feasts movies and Piranha DD in his 80s. Not letting age get in his way, he was a horror fan favorite and still showed up at conventions at almost 90.- On Friday, August 5, the Lakers and Angels lost their biggest fan. Richard Roat, the most supportive friend a person in the entertainment industry could ever have, passed away suddenly. Richard had amassed over 135 acting roles on television, film, and on Broadway. He guest starred on "The Golden Girls" twice, the first as a Murder Mystery Host and later playing Betty White's boyfriend, only to be found dead in her bed the next morning. He appeared in "Friends," "Seinfeld," "Hill Street Blues," and just about every TV show going back to "Car 54 Where Are You?" Richard performed on Broadway, (Sunday in New York, Any Wednesday, The Wall,) at The Public Theatre in Central Park (Julius Caesar,) The Huntington Hartford Theatre in Los Angeles, (Boys in the Band) and the Pasadena Playhouse (Moon Over Buffalo.) In addition to his distinguished career as an actor, Richard had a successful practice as an entertainment tax preparer for over 50 years. As an individual, Richard was a true Renaissance Man. He loved music, playing the violin, the theatre, movies, literature, provocative conversation, and a good whiskey. Richard loved sports and would have been ecstatic that the Angels won on the Friday night he passed. He had a gorgeous smile, a naughty twinkle in his eyes, and loved to badinage with everyone. His greatest love was his family, with whom he shared his incredible sense of humor, intelligence, and unmatched zest for life. Richard was fortunate to marry the love of his life, his true soulmate, Kathy. They had recently celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary. Their life together was a magical journey of travel, fun, laughter, and love. It was truly "An Affair to Remember." Richard will be missed by family, friends, colleagues, and clients. He will be thought of often, with warm memories and a quiet chuckle for all the good times he brought to our lives.

Her voice was unique and pure honey. Judith Durham achieved lasting fame as the lead vocalist for the Australian harmony folk/gospel/pop group The Seekers, formed by bass player Athol Guy and guitarists Keith Potger and Bruce Woodley. With more than 50 million record sales, The Seekers became the first Australian music organisation to score on the charts of both Britain and the U.S..
Judith was the daughter of William Alexander Cock DFC and his wife Hazel Durham. She spent her early childhood in Essendon, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. A gifted musician from the outset, she graduated with a degree (A.Mus.A.) in classical piano from the Melbourne University Conservatorium. She also took to playing classic jazz, blues and ragtime standards and was said to have excelled at the latter. Aged 19, Judith joined Frank Traynor's Jazz Preachers, an outfit led by a Melbourne trombonist who liked to blend folk music with jazz. At that time, she made her first EP record. While singing with various bands, Judith made ends meet by working as a pathologist's assistant and then as an advertising secretary. Enticed by Athol Guy (who was then an account executive), Judith agreed to join The Seekers, then performing at the Treble Clef coffee lounge. In 1964, the quartet sailed to England, their agent securing gigs for them in nightclubs and theatres. They also performed at the Palladium alongside Dusty Springfield, whose brother Tom wrote the first big Seekers hit "There'll Never Be Another You". The remainder of the decade brought many more chart-topping numbers, including "The Carnival is Over" (in 2002 ranking as No.30 in the UK Top 100 Best-Selling Singles Of All Time), Colours of My Life" (which was co-written by Judith), "A World of Our Own", "Someday One Day", "Morningtown Ride" and --their biggest hit -- "Georgy Girl", which was used as the title theme for the quintessential swinging sixties movie of that name, starring Lynn Redgrave and James Mason.
In mid-1968, The Seekers disbanded after Judith decided to go free-lance. Having teamed up with the London-based pianist and musical director Ronald Edgeworth (who became her husband in 1969) and setting up home in Queensland, she signed with A&M Records and released several successful albums between 1970 and 1974. Bowing to pressure from her many fans, Judith rejoined Guy, Potger and Woodley in 1992 for a hugely successful Silver Jubilee Tour. This was followed by similar encores in 2002, 2003 and 2012 (marking The Seekers' 50th birthday) and many solo tours of the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.
In 1990, Judith founded her own production company Musicoast, based in South Yarra, Victoria. In 1995, The Seekers became inductees into the Australian Record Industry Association's (ARIA) Hall of Fame. Judith was awarded the Medal of the Order Of Australia (OAM) for her services to music. She later also received the Centenary Medal from the Governor General. The Seekers received further accolades in the 2014 Queen's Birthday Honours by being individually named Officers of the Order of Australia.
Following the death of her husband in 1994, Judith became a National Patron of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of Australia (MNDAA). She herself suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2013 which impaired her ability to read and write - but not her singing. On August 5 2022, she passed away from complications due to a long-standing chronic lung disease at a Melbourne hospital, aged 79.- F.J. O'Neil was born in 1931 in Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
