Zeba Muhammad Ali migrated to Pakistan immediately after the partition of the Subcontinent in 1947 and settled in Hyderabad (Sindh), where he was introduced to Radio Pakistan by the then Director General Radio Pakistan Z A Bokhari. he was given a role of hero in the film titled 'Chirag Jalta Raha', directed by Sibtain Fazli in 1962. Formed a favourite couple with actress Zeba Dam Mast Qalandar. Santosh Kumar, whose real name was "Syed Musa Raza", son of Syed Daud Musa, successfully graduated with higher grades, from Usmania University, Hyderabad Deccan. After independence, Santosh migrated to Lahore, Pakistan, along with his family. "Ahensa" was the first film of Santosh as a hero, which was released in 1948, under the banner of "Kashmir films". Furthermore, film 'Shaam Dhalay' was the only movie in his film career, which he produced, directed and played the lead role, as well. Over and above, in Pakistan television's popular quiz show, 'Neelam Ghar', Santosh won the car by answering the required number of questions through his exceptionally high I.Q. and his immense general knowledge. Syed lmtiaz Ali Taj, prose and drama writer, was born in Lahore on October 13, 1900. After his education, he was able to partake in his father's publishing institution, Dar-ul-Ishaat Punjab.
During his college days he showed his literary qualities by translating and directing several English plays, and then staging them for the college. He sometimes played female roles as girls in his time were not allowed to act.
His earliest involvement with publications began with 'Phool', a children's periodical and 'Tahzeeb-e-Niswan' for women readership.
In 1918 he began the literary magazine called 'Kehkashan' in collaboration with his friend, Maulana Abdul Majeed Salik. In Phool he had the assistance of the famous short story writer Ghulam Abbas Ahmed as well as young Ahmed Nadeem Oasmi.
He translated into Urdu Shakespeare's play 'A Mid Summer Nights Dream' and entitled it in 'Sawan Rain ka sapna'. In 1922 he wrote 'Anarkali', which became a landmark in Urdu drama writing. This was later adapted into feature films in India and Pakistan.
In 1926 he wrote a play 'Chacha Chhakan' which was similar to the famous characters 'Uncle Podger' of the English dramatist Jerome, Chacha Chhakan remains until today the most humorous character in the Urdu literature.
Apart from criticism on drama, he also wrote radio plays, novels, short stories and several film stories, some of them directed by him. As the Director of 'Majlis' he republished many critical works of Urdu literature.
After the establishment of Pakistan, Syed lmtiaz Ali Taj conducted a daily feature 'Pakistan Hamara Hai' for Radio Pakistan. It was no doubt a popular programme.
On 19th April, 1970 while he was asleep, he was shot dead by some unknown persons. His wife Hijab lmtiaz Ali was seriously wounded.- Actor

Naeem Hashmi was a renowned and veteran film actor,Naat song lyricist for film Noor-E-Islam (1957) and a film producer-director of Pakistan. He acted in over 100 films in both British India and later in Pakistan. Peak of his professional career came, when he wrote the heart-touching lyrics of a Naat song, 'Shah-E-Madina,Yasreb Ke Waali' sung by Saleem Raza and Zubaida Khanum for the above mentioned film and it became a run-away super-hit Naat song in 1957 in Pakistan. People still fondly listen to it in 2015. Superb music for this Naat song was composed by Hasan Latif. Naeem Hashmi's elder son Khawar Naeem Hashmi is a famous Pakistani news reporter for Geo News Channel in 2015. Ghulam Haider was a pioneer music composer, an innovator in film music of India-Pakistan. After the era of A Silent Film ended in 1931, he quickly moved in and played a key role in starting a new film era which had films with sound and music in British India. He is credited with introducing the famous vocalist Shamshad Begum from Radio Lahore when it first started broadcasting on 16 December 1937. He composed a religious Naat, written by the renowned poet Walli Sahab for Shamshad Begum to sing on the radio. This was fascinating for the public in 1937 and the Naat became a super-hit..."Paigham saba laii hai gulzar-e-Nabi sey" and Ghulam Haider made history. Later in 1948, he is credited with introducing another music icon Lata Mangeshkar to the Hindi Film Industry. Lata herself publicly disclosed this in an interview on her 84th birthday in September,2013. She called him 'truly her Godfather' for introducing her to the Hindi Film Industry in film Majboor (1948). Film Khandaan (1942) starring Noor Jehan established him as a top film music director. He also introduced vocalists Sudha Malhotra and Surinder Kaur to the film industry. Ghulam Haider introduced the Punjabi folk music and instruments like 'Dholak' in the film music. His pioneering work inspired many Punjabi renowned music directors like Hansraj Behl, Shyam Sunder, Husanlal and Feroz Nizami.- Actor

Rafi Khawar better known by his nickname Nannah was a famous TV and film actor/comedian from Pakistan. He became popular as a comedian after his super-hit Punjabi language film Dubai Chalo (1979). During the early 1980s, he was at the peak of his popularity when he had many hit films and TV shows one after the other. Nannah successfully paired off with other comedians including Ali Ejaz and Munawar Zarif in more than 50 Pakistani films. Saadat Hassan Manto was born in a village near Ludhiana. He had a wife and 3 daughters to support and lived the last years of his life in Lahore, Pakistan where he stayed politically very active till the last days of his life. He also played a commendable and very supportive role in helping to build the film industry in newly-created nation of Pakistan after 1947. Earlier during his stay in India, he had written the film story for an award-winning Indian movie Mirza Ghalib (1954) and then his original short story 'Jhumke' was adapted for Pakistani hit film Badnam (1966). He is known as the most controversial short story writer in Urdu language. Government of Pakistan issued a commemorative postage stamp honoring him in 2005. In 2012, President of Pakistan awarded him Nishan-I-Imtiaz (Distinguished Service to Pakistan Award) .When Manto died on January 18, 1955, at age 42, thousands of people in Lahore walked in his funeral procession, a rare tribute which the public pays to a writer.- Actress

Munawar Sultana was a film playback singer of Pakistan active in the 1950s. She started her career in the mid-1940s as a radio and film playback singer. She used to take music lessons from the renowned music director Ghulam Haider. After independence of Pakistan in 1947, Lahore film industry had to rebuild itself because most of the Hindu film studio owners decided to migrate to India and they left Lahore, Pakistan.Music Director Ghulam Ahmad Chishti, Munawar Sultana and Inayat Hussain Bhatti are mostly credited with bringing the dead music industry of Lahore back to life again.She also worked with music directors Rashid Attre,Safdar Hussain besides Ghulam Haider and Baba Chishti to produce many super-hit film songs in the 1950s. She continued to work at the Radio Station,Lahore and recorded many popular Punjabi folk songs there as well. Munawar Sultana was known for her melodious voice among the Pakistani public.In the late 1950s,she married the then Station Director of Radio Pakistan,Lahore-Ayub Roomani.Her marriage coupled with arrival of new playback singers-especially Zubaida Khanum and Naseem Begum ended her singing career.She started focusing more on her family life and kids. She died on 20 May 1995 in Lahore,Pakistan.- Originally a resident of Karachi, Nusrat relocated to Lahore about 30 years ago, hoping to further her acting career. Life took a turn for the worse once Ainak Wala Jinn ended, forcing her into unemployment and poverty. Decades later, Nusrat is still struggling. To make matters worse, she has developed depression and related mental disorders over the course of time.

Syed Mohsin Naqvi, son of a saddle-maker and food vendor Syed Chirag Hussain, was an Urdu language poet from Pakistan. He belonged to a Syed family and was born in a predominantly Syed neighbourhood near the city of Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan. He was an active member of Shia Muslim community which is believed to be the reason behind his assassination.
His birth name was Ghulam Abbas which he later changed to Syed Ghulam Abbas Mohsin Naqvi or Mohsin Naqvi for short.
Naqvi published several books of poetry during his life time. He had a Masters degree in Urdu from University of the Punjab, Lahore. Along with being a prolific poet, he also flexed his political muscles by working for Pakistan Peoples Party and running in an election but this turned out to be a short-lived venture.
Naqvi penned a song titled "Lehron Ki Trha Tuhjy Bikharny Nahi Dain Gy" for Bazar-e-Husn (1988) for which he won National Film Award.
Being a prominent member of Shia Muslim minority Naqvi openly expressed his religious and political views in his poetry. He was an open critic of sectarian violence which saw a sharp rise throughout 1980's and 1990's in Pakistan. Unfortunately, Naqvi himself became a victim of same violence.
He was assassinated at his residence in Lahore on January 15, 1996. He was buried in his home town of Dera Ghazi Khan.- Actor

Baba Alam Siaposh was considered a 'father figure' in the Pakistani film industry. He played a key role in film-making by writing film stories, film dialogue, film screenplay and film songs for dozens of super-hit Pakistani films in the early years of Pakistan between 1949 until up to his death in 1970. For example, famous Pakistani film actress Swaran Lata had lost touch with her mother-tongue Punjabi, as a young girl, by being away from her native Punjab and having been educated and also having lived at Hindi and Urdu speaking area of Lucknow, India, and needed a 'refresher course' in Punjabi language before starting to act in Punjabi language films back in 1949. Baba Alam Siaposh was then selected as her language coach for film Pheray (1949).He had graduated from the University of Punjab,Lahore before beginning his film-related career in Mumbai in the 1940s.His book 'Hanerian Raatan' included a list of his film songs. Besides films, he wrote the lyrics of a run-away super-hit Pakistan TV song-"Jhaanjhar phabdi naa mutiar bina" sung by Tahira Syed in 1974. He died on 2 March 1970 at Lahore,Pakistan and left behind a legacy that people still fondly remember him by.- Actress

Reshma was a renowned folk singer of Pakistan who, due to her unique husky and folksy voice and personality, was popular both in India and Pakistan. Her folk songs were used both in Indian and Pakistani films. She was born in a family of gypsies in Rajasthan, British India in 1947. The family later migrated to Pakistan. She was discovered by a Radio Pakistan director Saleem Jeelani back in 1968. Before that, she used to sing,as a young girl, at small private village concerts in the rural areas of Pakistan. She started singing,as a hobby,at the young age of 12 in 1960. She had never received any formal training for singing until 1968, when Saleem Jeelani, impressed by the quality of her singing voice and the obvious self-confidence of this young girl, finally convinced her to get some basic music training at Pakistan Television. Then she started appearing on Pakistan Television music shows and her talent was instantly recognized by the public. Her big breakthrough came in 1972 with one of her Pakistan TV folk songs becoming a run-away super-hit nationwide in Pakistan and thereafter she stayed popular all through the 1980s and 1990s until she came down with some kind of cancer and then she finally died on 3 November 2013 at age 66. She has left behind dozens of hit folk songs as her legacy.- Actress

Asha Posley was born Sabira Begum in Patiala, Punjab, British India in 1927. She was given the film name Asha Posley by the renowned music director Ghulam Haider. She made her film debut in a Lahore-made Punjabi film Gawandi (1942) as a supporting actress.Later she played just a few female lead roles in some films starting with film Champa (1945) and then Kamli (1946) in British India. After independence of Pakistan in 1947, her whole family migrated to Lahore, Pakistan including her music director father Inayat Ali Nath and her 2 sisters- actress Rani Kiran and Kausar Perveen who later gained fame in Pakistan as a film playback singer. Her father was the music director for the first-ever released film in Pakistan Teri Yaad (1948) and Asha Posley played the female lead role in the film opposite Nasir Khan who was a brother of famous Indian actor Dilip Kumar.Later she was mostly cast in supporting roles opposite comedian actors Nazar and Asif Jah in films both in Urdu and Punjabi languages. She acted in 129 films in total in her career spanning over 4 decades (1942-1986). Shaukat Ali is a folk singer and a film playback singer from Pakistan.He is known to show a lot of respect for the poets he selects to sing and really puts a lot of emotion and energy into his singing.His career as a folk singer now spans for over 50 years in 2015.He was born into a family of musicians in Punjab, Pakistan.He was musically trained by his elder brother Inayat Ali Khan.Shaukat Ali began singing while at college in the 1960s. He was first introduced into the Pakistani film world as a playback singer by the renowned film music director Manzoor Ashraf in Punjabi film Tees Mar Khan (1963).
