The source novel by Wallace Irwin, "Letters of a Japanese Schoolboy (Hashimura Togo)," was published in 1909 by Doubleday Page and Company with illustrations by Rollin Kirby. A sequel, "More Letters of a Japanese Schoolboy," was released in 1923.
