Plot Summary

Gösta Berling is a young, attractive minister. Because he is an alcoholic and his sermons are far too daring, he is finally defrocked. He leaves the town in disgrace and arrives at Countess Marta's manor. His new job there is to be a tutor to her beautiful stepdaughter. They eventually fall in love with each other, but they don't know that the countess hired him only because she has her own secret plans. Written by Aljaz Ciber, Slovenia

Trivia The film was originally released as two parts in Sweden: "Gösta Berlings saga I" on 10 March 1924 and "Gösta Berlings saga II" seven days later. The two-part version was also used in Finland and Norway, but for the rest of the world a shorter, one-part export version was made. See more »
