After the bracketed voting process concluded, it all came down to one man, that being Vladimir Tarasenko. The popular St. Louis Blues forward won it all, in terms of the NHL 17 cover athlete tournament, and has cemented himself as the player who will represent the League on this year’s box art.
As promised, this anticipated result was announced during last night’s NHL Awards, which took place in Las Vegas. It was fitting, too, because Sin City has officially been granted its own National Hockey League team after a drawn out process that also included interest from Quebec City.

It won’t come as a surprise, but EA Sports has officially announced NHL 17, which it intends to release sometime next fall on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This will mark the series’ third outing on the current gen consoles, after a brief hiatus that was supposed to lead to a fantastic NHL 15. Of course, we all know how that turned out.
Little is known about what will be different in NHL 17, although EA Canada has posted a new trailer that is full of all the predictable PR hyperbole. As expected, it states that the game will be even better than its predecessors, thanks to improved gameplay in all three categories (offence, defence and goaltending). That’s what one would hope, of course, although I don’t doubt that the team in Burnaby is putting work in to make sure that next year’s outing is another step in the right direction.

The new website for NHL 17 suggests that the developers have turned their attention to fine tuning each zone of gameplay. However not much else was revealed about the game.
That being said a new cover vote has started and you can head to the official website to vote for your favorite player. Even with 30 Rock partners Tina Fey and Robert Carlock as creators, it's hard to imagine Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt being the least bit funny without Ellie Kemper in the title role. The show's backstory — Kimmy was abducted in middle school and held prisoner for years by a doomsday cult leader (Jon Hamm) before escaping and moving to New York to get a clean break from the trauma — is so dark, and so at odds with Fey and Carlock's silly brand of humor, that it wouldn't work at all if not for Kemper's enormous reserves of warmth and joy. When Kimmy flashes that cartoonish, kilometer-wide smile, you understand how she got through her ordeal, and you have permission to move on from thinking about everything that happened down in the bunker. I'll have a review of the new season, which debuts Friday on Netflix, later in the week. On my final day...

Jon Hamm is one of the most likeable and humble stars today, but success didn't come easy for the Midwestern actor, who proved that patience really does pay.
Moving to Los Angeles in the mid-90s, it was more than a decade before Hamm landed "Mad Men" and became a breakthrough sensation. But ever since starring as the now iconic Don Draper, the actor has found work aplenty, appearing in hits like "The Town" and sitcom "30 Rock." This summer, Hamm is back on the silver screen in Disney's "Million Dollar Arm," where he stars as a sports agent trying to turn Indian cricket players into baseball stars.
From competing on a cheesy dating show to his surprising first movie director, here are 23 things you probably don't know about Jon Hamm.
1. Hamm was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Deborah and Daniel Hamm. His mother was a secretary, while his father ran a family trucking company.

The biggest win for the United States on Feb. 15 was unfortunately not for a medal. Hockey fans got to watch the game of their life as the U.S. faced off against Russia, resulting in basically another Miracle. Except our eye candy was upgraded from Patrick O’Brian Dempsey to T.J. Oshie. The only other American win was a bronze medal in men’s skeleton. As expected, the Europeans cleaned up in ski-jumping and super-g. T.J. Oshie Helps Us Get Win Against Russia
Oshie, who plays professionally for the St. Louis Blues, scored on four of his six shootout attempts, leading the U.S. squad to a 3-2 win over Russia. Olympic rules allow for a player to take more than one shot after three other players participate. After U.S. goalie Jonathan Quick saved a shot from Ilya Kovalchuk in the eighth round of shots, Oshie had the chance to score for the twin.

"I was just thinking of something else I could do, trying to keep him guessing," said Oshie, who’d already shot on Sergei Bobrosky a handful of times in the shootout. "Had to go back to the same move a couple times, but I was glad it ended when it did.

Stewart Alexander is a Canadian actor and writer based in London, England. He was born and raised in Lachine, Quebec, and moved to the UK shortly after graduating from McGill University. Having made a number of short films on Super-8 in college, he embarked on a self-appointed apprenticeship assisting in the lighting, sound and editorial departments for a number of production companies in the UK. He also wrote and directed a short film called, “The Leather Jacket,” which was shot on 16mm, and edited, in a pre-digital age, on a Steenbeck. After meeting Kerry Skinner while studying to be an actor, he wrote the stage-play “Body Checks,” which they co-produced to considerable critical acclaim, and then adapted into a screenplay.
Now Alexander and Skinner have co-directed their first feature, the comedy-drama Common People. The film weaves together six stories and over thirty characters to present a dramatic, humorous and sometimes magical tale of romance,...

Erin Andrews is quite the hockey fan! The 35-year-old sports reporter proved it earlier this month when she got so into a L.A. Kings versus St. Louis Blues game at the Staples Center that her hair couldn't help defying gravity! In a funny photo, Andrews was snapped at one point during the night seated in the audience with her blond locks flying around above her head as she watched the game. But it doesn't sound like Andrew is stressing the semi-unflattering wild hair shot. Earlier today, a fan tweeted her the photo, to which she replied, "This is what happens when ur invested."...

The Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, and yesterday’s Game 3 between the La Kings and St. Louis Blues brought out the stars, including Taylor Kitsch, Eric Stonestreet, and Matthew Perry. Only one of them, however, got caught on the Kiss Cam. See who Perry smooches in the video below. We don’t want to spoil it for you.
P.S. This was great, but 2011′s Rachel McAdams Cam is still our favorite.

Espn's turning to a man's man for this job. Jon Hamm has been tapped to host the 2013 Espy Awards, which celebrates the finest moments in sports over the last 12 months, including the year's best plays, biggest upsets and most awesome performances. The Mad Men star broke the news during his appearance this morning on Live With Kelly and Michael while making the publicity rounds for Mad Men's sixth season, which kicked off a few weeks ago on AMC. Given that Hamm's a Missouri native who's been a loyal fan of all of St. Louis' sports franchises —from major league baseball's St. Louis Cardinals and the city's old NFL team to the NHL's St. Louis Blues—he...

The Mayor of St. Louis declared it “Will and Zach Day” here and thousands of fans of funny men Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis braved the 100+ degree heat to pay tribute to the stars. Keiner Plaza downtown is where all the excitement was earlier this evening and We Are Movie Geeks was there. The stars of the upcoming comedy The Campaign were interviewed by hometown sportscaster Joe Buck and fed carrots to one of the Clydesdale horses from the local Anheuser Busch brewery. Representatives of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball, St. Louis Rams Football, and St. Louis Blues Hockey teams were on hand to hand out jerseys to the pair (because this is a sports town after all) and, despite the heat, everyone seemed to have a good time.
.The Campaign. opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, August 10.

The first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft took place in Pittsburgh yesterday and it brought with it a lot of surprises and shocks. Even the first overall pick, which the Oilers eventually used on stud forward Nail Yakupov, was subject to some pre-draft speculation.
The common theme of the first round, however, was undoubtedly defencemen. Eight of the first ten selections were blueliners, and this has some analysts comparing the 2012 draft pool to the 2008 edition, in which notable stars Drew Doughty, Alex Pietrangelo and Tyler Myers were drafted.
Below are the complete first round results:
Edmonton -Nail Yakupov – Rw – Russia Columbus -Ryan Murray – D – Canada Montreal -Alex Galchenyuk – C – United States/Russia NY Islanders – Griffin Reinhart – D – Canada Toronto – Morgan Rielly – D – Canada Anaheim – Hampus Lindholm – D – Sweden Minnesota – Mathew Dumba – D – Canada Pittsburgh -Derrick Pouliot – D – Canada Winnipeg Jets – Jacob Trouba – D – United States Tampa Bay – Slater...

The Los Angeles Kings staged a rather remarkable upset in the 2011-12 NHL hockey season, earning an 8-seed in the Western Conference and defeating the top-seeded Vancouver Canucks and No. 2-seed St. Louis Blues on their way to earning the first Stanley Cup championship in the history of the franchise, which was established in 1967.
The Kings got off to a quick start in the finals, going up on the New Jersey Devils 3-0. The Devils came marching back to win games 4 and 5, but in Game 6, the Kings were too much for the Devils to handle, scoring three times in the first 15 minutes of the game.
The final score was 6-1 and the Mvp of the series is the aptly-named Jonathan Quick, goalie for the Kings. He made 125 saves out of 133 attempts, for a .947 save percentage. Not too shabby.
Congratulations to the Kings and all their fans.

Gil Evans, perhaps the second-greatest arranger in jazz after Duke Ellington, was born Ian Ernest Gilmore Green on May 13, 1912 in Toronto, Canada (Evans was his stepfather's name). Though best known for his collaborations with Miles Davis, Evans released many great albums as a bandleader and created a highly influential style that changed the course of jazz history.
Though self-taught, by age 21 Evans was leading a big band that became the house group at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa Beach. Eventually it was fronted and then led by singer Skinnay Ennis, and Claude Thornhill joined Evans in providing arrangements for them. Thornhill then moved to New York to start his own band, and in 1941 invited Evans to New York to write arrangements. Soon Evans's arrangements with their lush, hazy, floating textures defined the Thornhill style.
Though theoretically a swing band, the Thornhill ensemble was one of the most progressive big bands of its time,...

NY Rangers 3-1-0 Points 6 Total 17
New Jersey 2-1-0 Points 4 Total 13

It was a good week all around in the Atlantic division, no team failed to pick up points and although the Pens are still top the Flyers are starting to breathe down their necks a little, they’re only 3 points behind and have played a game less. They also proved this week that they have kept their scoring touch, beating Columbus by 9-2. The Rangers have also picked up speed, their coach John Tortorella wouldn’t answer media questions after a game last week but i’m sure he’s feeling a little friendlier now that his team have managed to pick up six of eight points over the last few days. Donkeys, llamas, eagles, and snakes were at the St. Louis Zoo yesterday to greet actor Kevin James, along with several hundred human fans of the Paul Blart Mall Cop star. Kevin James arrived on the Zoo train and graciously signed autographs and mingled with fans. I didn.t see him talk to...

Have you ever wondered what are the films that inspire the next generation of visionary filmmakers? As part of our monthly Ioncinephile profile, we ask the filmmaker the incredibly arduous task of identifying their top ten list of favorite films. This November, we profile first-time filmmaker Damien Chazelle whose micro-budgeted Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench has charmed critics and found itself on several Best Undistributed Films Lists of 2009. Via Variance Films, his film is finally receiving its theatrical debut this November 5th at the Cinema Village in New York City. Below, you'll find Damien's top ten list as of November 2010 -- a nice mix of films of retro and contemporary films ranging between studio films and obscure short film titles. Here is Damien Chazelle's Top Ten in his own words. Barry Lyndon - Stanley Kubrick (1975) "Ok, here’s a thing that really bothers me: the rap on Kubrick’s cinema as unemotional.
