Before singing "On the Road to Mandalay," Lawrence Tibbett sings the first eight bars of "Sugar Plum" (from the other movie, which came out the same year) in an artificially high voice, swinging his hips, rolling his eyes and snapping his fingers, to demonstrate his contempt for the kind of popular music on the radio.
