The newspaper that Mr. Jones is reading on the stoop is the same prop newspaper that was used in the Laurel and Hardy film, "Sons of the Desert" (1933) because the headline reads "HONOLULU LINER SINKING! FOUNDERS IN TYPHOON" in both films.
Just before Spanky begins doing chin-ups, Alfalfa tells him, "Anything you can do, I can do better." While certainly not trademarked, this catchy line may have inspired Irving Berlin to write the famous closing number of the popular Broadway musical, "Annie Get Your Gun," which did not debut until 1946, 11 years after this short subject.
