Always Good To See Anita Garvin
boblipton8 July 2022
Everyone is excited because Harry Gribbon is coming back to the farm from the Big City. Dorothy Morrison is hearing wedding bells. When Harry shows up with bride Anita Garvin, she has to reset her sights on farmhand George Shelton.

There are some lovely if old-fashioned bits here, like the noise created by chomping celery, and Jimmie Fox eating corn on the cob and spitting half the kernels at his tablemates. "They must be fun at a picnic," says Miss Garvin. "We're having watermelon for desert," replies Miss Morrison.

Despite the claims that the Hays Office meant that even married couples were consigned to twin beds, Gribbon and Miss Garvin climb into the same bed. How I envy him!

Harry Gribbon stars, but Anita Garvin shines in this comedy.

The basic plot line is simple. Newlywed Harry Gribbon brings his wife (Anita Garvin) home to meet his country family which includes their perspective choice for a daughter-in-law.

The funny dinner sequence is highlighted with a classic Garvin double take. The setup has Harry telling everyone that Anita has traveled to Paris. Pa asks "How is it to be abroad?"

There are far to few examples of Anita's film work with the classic A PAIR OF TIGHTS 1928 and Laurel & Hardy's BLOTTO 1930 both Hal Roach comedies being the best known.

Anita Garvin and a funny supporting cast make this slapstick comedy full of 1 liners a delight.
