Final appearance in the series of Pete the Dog. The producers at MGM, who had just taken over from Hal Roach, decided to retire the character so they could "modernize" the stories.
Fifth consecutive Our Gang film made without George 'Spanky' McFarland, who was on loan to other studios.
Most popular rascal, George 'Spanky' McFarland was not in five consecutive shorts. The first three were Hal Roach productions, and the two others were the first of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Our Gang shorts. Their titles are Feed 'em and Weep (1938), The Awful Tooth (1938), Hide and Shriek (1938), The Little Ranger (1938), and Party Fever (1938). Hal Roach sold the group of youngsters to MGM after Hide and Shriek was filmed, produced, and released.
