Here is another 1940 Popeye the Sailor cartoon from the Fleischers that I like. In this one, Popeye and Olive were on their way to Olive's secret goldmine, and they had to get there before Bluto the Claim Jumper got there to goldmine, and they had to get there before Bluto the Claim Jumper got there to claim it. Of course, this comes to my mind: how could it be a "secret goldmine" if there were signs all around? Oh well, for the humor.
I like the scene where Popeye and Olive begin digging elsewhere in search of the gold vein. Their tunnel, however, brings them back to the cave Bluto is trying to exploit. When Poeye bursts in, Bluto, who was blubbering because of a dead end, asks: "Who's that?" And Popeye: "Nobody." Another scene, and a funny one done by animator Frank Endres, that I like is after Popeye slugs Bluto, his face skids along the ground and Popeye uses Bluto like a drive-on plow. While Olive sings a variant of "Nuts in May" while plucking gold nuggets.
You know, I've read some negative stuff about this cartoon, but personally I think it's another great Popeye cartoon with its "dialogue-humor."
