Plot Summary

The Acunas, a rich Argentine family, have the tradition that the daughters have to get married in order, oldest first. When sister #1 gets married, sisters #3 and #4 put pressure on Maria, sister #2, because they have their husbands picked out already. But Maria hasn't yet met a man she likes. Eduardo Acuna, believing that men aren't romantic enough these days, sends his daughter flowers and anonymous love letters, creating a "mystery man" for her to fall in love with. He intends to pick out an appropriate beau for her later, to fill the role. But Robert Davis, an American dancer looking for work, stumbles into the picture. Maria falls for him, but the father does not approve. Written by John Oswalt

Trivia Because all the sets on the Columbia lot were occupied, and so Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth rehearsed most of their routines in the nearby Hollywood Cemetery funeral parlor. They had to stop rehearsing to the upbeat music whenever a funeral procession arrived. See more »
Goofs During Davis's big dance number in Acuna's office, he tap dances over part of a throw rug. The sound of his taps are the same as when he taps on the hardwood floor of the room, revealing that the taps are dubbed onto the soundtrack. See more »

Crazy Credits In the opening credits, the two film stars and the movie title appear on the front and back of a flower gift card held in the hands of a glamorous woman. The rest of the credits follow as in normal film credits. See more »
Quotes Robert Davis: When do I start dancing?
Eduardo Acuña: You do not start dancing.
Robert Davis: But didn't you come to see me about...?
Eduardo Acuña: About one of my daughters. The one you so gallantly referred to as "the inside of a refrigerator"?
Robert Davis: Oh... but, I'm afraid I don't follow you.
Eduardo Acuña: She thinks you're in love with her.
Robert Davis: Would it be rude of me to inquire if there is any insanity in your family?
