On the ship "Ye Mayflower", are a couple of items WWII audiences would recognize. First is a plate saying "Henrye J. Kiser Construction Co." This is a reference to Henry J. Kaiser and his Kaiser Shipbuilding Co. which was a major builder of transport ships during the war. Second is the red "C" gas rationing sticker, which allotted more gasoline than "A" and "B" stickers and was issued to professionals, clergy, and war-essential workers. The cartoon also shows wartime tobacco rationing, someone receiving his draft classification of "1-A" (fit for service), and "4-F" (not qualified for service), but working at a Lockheed aircraft plant and living in a trailer due to housing shortages.
When this short ran on Cartoon Network, the joke about the half-breed was cut.
The turkey is first found in Ye House of Seven Gobbles. This is a play on The House of the Seven Gables, a 1668 colonial mansion in Salem, Massachusetts, named for its gables. It was made famous by Nathaniel Hawthorne's 1851 novel of the same name.
