Channeling David Fincher: How ‘House of Cards’ Created a ‘Hyper’ Look For Its Most Ambitious Episode
Television shows establish the foundation of their look and visual language with their pilot episode. This is especially true for “House of Cards,” in which one of Hollywood’s most distinct visual storytellers, David Fincher, served as both executive producer and the director of the first two episodes. From its precise and dramatic compositions to its monochromatic color palette to the often dark, low source light photography, “House of Cards” embodies some of the most recognizable elements of Fincher’s style.

I wrote two years ago about the second season of "Hannibal" and why Emmy voters should have nominated it for all the awards. Well, they didn't nominate it for any of the awards, even in Creative Arts categories like cinematography or art direction, where it should have been a no-brainer. The third and final season of the cult hit aired last summer on NBC, and all my praise for season two still applies, but I'd like to focus particular attention on one new standout: Richard Armitage as serial killer Francis Dolarhyde, aka the Red Dragon. -Break- Subscribe to Gold Derby Breaking News Alerts & Experts’ Latest Oscar Predictions So yes, you should nominate Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Gillian Anderson, writer/creator Bryan Fuller, one or more directors and as many below-the-line craft professionals as possible. But let's talk about Armitage. Like many other actors on the show he had big shoes to fill.

The episode is entitled, "The Number Of The Beast Is 666," and it turns out that we're going to see some very dramatic and intense stuff go down as a very risky plan gets cooked up for the Red Dragon, and more! In the new, 12th episode press release: A Risky Plan To Lure The Red Dragon Puts Everyone At Risk. Press release number 2: Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and the FBI will enlist the expertise of Dr. Fredrick Chilton (guest star Raul Esparza) in the hopes of luring Francis Dolarhyde (guest star Richard Armitage) into an ambush, using Freddie Lounds (guest star Lara Jean Chorostecki) as their mouthpiece. As Will's empathy for Dolarhyde begins to affect his fragile psyche, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson) will warn that the killer ,Will, should be most concerned about at the moment is himself.

Recently, NBC delivered the new, official synopsis/spoilers for their upcoming "Hannibal" episode 11 of season 3. The episode is entitled, "And The Beast From The Sea," and it turns out that we're going to see some very interesting and high drama stuff go down as another major attack is served up by the Red Dragon, and more! In the new, 11th episode press release: The Red Dragon Threatens To Strike Very Close To Those Who Are Hunting Him. Press release number 2: Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne) will be certain that Francis Dolarhyde (guest star Richard Armitage) will strike again with the approaching full moon, but without a solid lead, they will remain unable to predict the next family on the Red Dragon's hit list. Certain that Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) can lead the FBI to Dolarhyde, Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas) is going to offer Hannibal a chance at redemption.

Pixels
Notable: This film is based on a 2010 short film by French director Patrick Jean and distributed by One More Productions.
Adam Sandler has once again rounded up some of his friends to stand in front of a camera and say word. Kevin James plays the president of the United States in all his fat/schlubby glory and has a hot wife (Jane Krakowski). If that were say Melissa McCarthy and her husband was Clive Owen, people would shit themselves over pointing out the “flaw” there. But we know it is typical Happy Madison ideas to have sexualized female roles right alongside guys in sweat pants. This movie is a metaphor for sweatpants. It’s lazy and worn out in the crotch.

It’s been 8 months since my last confession and so I’d like to share with you thoughts about What I’ve Been Watching. It’s a chance for me to share some TV viewing pleasures I have had in the hopes that you’ll check them out for yourself; you never know, you just might find a new favorite!
If I’m missing out on any good movies and/or TV shows you want to recommend, chat me up on Facebook or Twitter.
Hannibal
If you’re a fan of the show then you have probably heard by now that the series has been canceled by NBC. I wouldn’t put blame on them in this case considering it was giving a prime Thursday night timeslot and going by the shows shocking graphic content (I still can’t believe this was on TV); I think NBC was more than fair.

The new season for Hannibal is about to begin and this new promotional trailer does a great job at reminding us all how we got here. ‘Where shall we begin?”
Actress Caroline Dhavernas calls Season 3 a “blank slate” and it seems like that’s the case here. The incredible new setting is a perfect fit as well; I can’t wait to see Mads Mikkelsen (Lecter) in this environment.
Richard Armitage talks about his character Francis Dolarhyde as The Red Dragon, and the cast promise that fans who know the story arc will still have plenty of surprises to look forward to. Where is Mason Verger though?
Hannibal returns on a new night, Thursday, June 4 at 10 p.m. on NBC.

Director and cinematographer Mark Toia at the Red User Forum has his hands on the new 6K Red Epic Dragon, and he calls it “the real deal,” writing, “It’s the first camera ever that I have used that captures exactly what I see with my own eye. Never have I seen this before!” From Toia’s post: The Red Dragon sensor has 3 F Stops more than before. 1 in the hight lights which rolls over wonderfully !, 2 solid extra stops in the darks…. maybe 3 once the colour science has been perfected. But there is still noise, but nothing […]...

Yesterday NBC premiered what promises to become one incredible ride through the mind of one of the most troubled man in literature, as well as a quick view of one of the most well known serial killers in fiction. I’m talking about the superb Hannibal, a series that could only be delivered by Brian Fuller.
Note: This review contains spoilers about the episode, as well as some clues of what may happen during the rest of the series.
Plot Synopsis: Troubled criminal profiler Will Graham is asked to work for the FBI in order to catch a serial killer that seems to be hunting down several girls in the State. However, when the case seems to be very complicated, agent Jack Crawford enlists the help of no other than Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
When I first heard about this show I couldn’t have been more thrilled. Something that has...

Travis Wright has signed on to pen the next screen adaptations of James A. Owen's Imaginarium Geographica book series. The Eagle Eye writer will draft the big screen versions of the first two books in Owen's The Chronicles Of The Imaginarium Geographica - Here, There Be Dragons and The Search For The Red Dragon. A director for the scripts has yet to be announced, though Lord Of The Rings co-producer Rick Porras will (more)...

Dragons in movies are pretty much always cool (unless you’re watching Eragon - in which case, well, don’t). We learnt that a few weeks back with DreamWorks’ soaring How To Train Your Dragon. And, just as Clash Of The Titans and Prince Of Persia have got Hollywood in a tizzy seeking out more swords-and-sandals scripts, dragons are now hot property all over again. We know this because scribe Travis Wright has been hired to scribble cinematic script adaps of Here, There Be Dragons and The Search For The Red Dragon....

With How To Train Your Dragon and the creature-stuffed Clash Of The Titans doing well at the box office, it was predictable that Hollywood would quickly find other monster-flavoured properties to chuck into the movie machine. The Gotham Group has bought up the rights to James A Owen’s young-adult fantasy series The Chronicles Of The Imaginarium Geographica, with Eagle Eye writer Travis Adam Wright on board to pen the script. The Geographica series is a sort of fantasy dream team-meets-Young Indiana Jones match-up, which finds youthful Jrr Tolkien and Cs Lewis having adventures that go on to inspire their future fiction.Wright’s job will be boiling the first two books – Here, There Be Dragons and The Search For The Red Dragon into what the producers will no doubt be hoping is the start of a franchise. And he’s suitably excited by the job: “This is the best gift any fanboy of Tolkien,...
