It’s a beautiful fantasy. On Oscar night 1948, the same evening that in real-life Walt Disney’s troubling Song of the South received an honorary Oscar for James Baskett’s performance, Rock Hudson came out of the closet in front of the entire world. Standing on the red carpet with his hand in Archie Coleman’s, a black man who was nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar, Rock announces his love to the world and says he is not afraid. But like many sparkling things in Ryan Murphy shows, it’s still only a fantasy. In real life, there was no Archie Coleman, no Meg to catapult Rock Hudson’s career into liberal advocacy, and no coming out of the closet.
In recent years, Rock Hudson is likely most remembered, whether he would’ve liked it or not,...

Does the future of Battlefront include an expanded single-player offline mode?
Considering it wasn't that long ago that Star Wars fans assumed we wouldn't be getting any more Battlefront games at all, it's certainly heartwarming to hear that developer EA Dice is already looking forward to a bright tomorrow for the acclaimed multiplayer shooter franchise.
In an interview with PC Gamer, Star Wars Battlefront director Niklas Fegraeus opened up about the future of 2015's Star Wars Battlefront and the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront 2. As we had previously reported, that future will include the upcoming edition of a skirmish mode that will finally allow Battlefront fans to play the game offline against bots across various difficulty modes.
According to Fegraeus, EA Dice is well aware of the demand surrounding such a mode.
"It's something the fans have been talking about for a very long time,” said Fegraeus. "It's been on the forums,...

Star Wars Battlefront developer Dice has been making some rather substantial and extensive changes under the game’s hood for its February update and frankly, we’re not sure where to start – the list is freaking massive.
Before we start dissecting all of the little, large and much-needed changes though, you’re probably more interested in the new content that’s been added with the patch.
First up is the new Twilight on Hoth map that’s been added to several modes, including Walker Assault, Drop Zone and Heroes vs. Villains. Judging by the map name, expect to be battling it out as the Rebels or Empire in the freezing midnight blizzard that sweeps through the snow-covered planet when the sun (or is it suns?) sets.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is still annihilating the box office, we unwrapped Star Wars: Everything for Christmas (seriously, if you need several hundred Kylo Ren mugs my house is basically a retailer), and Star Wars: Battlefront is still looking like a fine addition to the game library, with its multiplayer system proving to be exceedingly fun.
The game was released to huge fanfare after months of drooling over a set of immense trailers and teasers. The first impressions were that the gameplay was tremendous, the graphics spectacular, and the Star Wars factor was astounding. In 2016, I still think that’s all true. An influx of Christmas gamers means that not only do we have more friends to conquer the galaxy alongside, but there are thousands more metaphorical womp rats to bullseye.

Booting up Star Wars Battlefront for the first time was a truly special moment. Familiar logos adorn the screen, while John Williams’ timeless music begins to play, and it finally dawned on me that the day has come. It’s been a long wait to see the Star Wars franchise return to full form, and while the upcoming The Force Awakens is a few months out, Battlefront serves as an excellent distraction until the big day arrives. Granted, I’d be doing a disservice to Battlefront and developer Dice by dismissing their newest title as another cog in the giant marketing machine that is the Star Wars franchise. In fact, Star Wars Battlefront is one of the most thrilling shooters I’ve played in recent memory.

After much deliberation and speculation regarding their inclusion, Dice finally made it official late last week that, yes, Star Wars Battlefront would include a roster of Hero characters beyond simply the father-son duo of Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Specifically, the studio has rendered the likes of Han Solo, Leio Organa and the malevolent Emperor Palpatine, with players getting the chance to control either hero or villain throughout the course of an in-game skirmish.
But what of the star vehicles? Since the first gameplay clip for the Fighter Squadron mode debuted online, budding fans have wondered whether the Millennium Falcon and Boba Fett’s Slave I ship will feature in Battlefront. We’re pleased to report that both will be included in this specific, airborne game mode, and today’s Dice blog delved into the finer details about unlocking both of the fan-favorite ships.

EA details the character abilities we'll see as we play Han, Leia or Palpatine in Star Wars: Battlefront...
We're already preparing our best gravelly "Fully operational battle station" Emperor Palpatine impression, as EA reveals details of three additional characters in Star Wars: Battlefront. As you've probably gathered, they're household names from the Star Wars-verse: on the side of all that's good in the galaxy, there's Leia Organa and Han Solo. On the side of evil, the cackling, scheming Emperor Palpatine in his fright make-up.
They join the characters already announced - Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Darth Vader - as the six heroes and villains we'll be able to briefly control at certain moments in the game. Each will have their own unique ability; Luke with his Force Pushes, Sabre Rushes and Smouldering Sulk ability (we may have made the last one up), Vader with...

With barely a month to go before Star Wars Battelfront releases, and with so many having enjoyed this past weekend's open Beta, EA has finally revealed All of the modes you'll be able to play, along with details on their season pass for Dlc. Come inside to check it all out.
The rollout of information on Star Wars Battlefront has been steady, but piecemeal. We've heard details on Blast Mode, Drop Zone Mode, Fighter Squadron, and Walker Assault (a few of those are playable in the beta), but today EA has spilled the beans on everything else you'll be able to play when the game launches next month.
I've been playing the beta (poorly, if I'm to be judged by the stream we did) and been enjoying myself quite a bit. The fun factor on the game is through the roof, the addition of these new modes will probably only add to it.

Jack Larson, an actor, playwright, producer and screenwriter best known from the classic 1950s comic book series The Adventures of Superman, died Sunday in his Brentwood home. He was 87 years old. Born in 1928 in Los Angeles, Larson’s film debut was in the 1948 war movie “Fighter Squadron.” Intent on becoming a Broadway actor, he only reluctantly took the role as cub reporter and photographer Jimmy Olsen on The Adventures of Superman. To date, Dice and publisher EA have showcased some of the nominal game modes that will be available in Star Wars Battlefront – namely Walker Assault, Blast and the sky-scrapping Fighter Squadron mode. But as teased late last month, one of the new additions that will feature in October’s beta test is that of Drop Zone, with EA touting the game mode as a “King of the Hill-style” experience.
Swapping the bombastic 40-player action of Walker Assault, Drop Zone is said to be a more confined gameplay experience, with two teams of 8 battling it out to control the lion’s share of the drop pods that litter the alien environment. Much like other modes in the galactic shooter, the roster of players will be divided into the Rebel Alliance and the Empire at random.

As the launch of Star Wars Battlefront closes in, EA details another of its modes: Drop Zone...
"Keep watching the skies" seems to be the key bit of advice in Drop Zone, the latest Star Wars Battlefront mode unveiled by EA.
Eight-versus-eight teams of Rebels and Empire forces fight to capture and control diving bell-like pods, which will randomly drop from the sky and land on the planet surface. Once claimed, these pods will unleash a few useful Power Pickups, thus giving players an added incentive to locate and gain possession of them. The risk, however, is that hanging around one pod for too long will trigger an orbital strike, with deadly results.
It's all part of EA's plans to create a game where players are constantly moving and fighting; even a tussle over the possession of one pod won't result in a tedious stalemate, but rather the deployment of another pod somewhere else,...

We spend some time in the company of Star Wars: Battlefront. And EA's shooter's looking quite impressive so far...
Few would argue that the current generation of consoles have not been slow to come to the boil. A series of disappointing or average exclusive titles on both systems (Ryse, Killzone: Shadow Fall, The Order: 1886) and a whole slew of ‘remastered’ versions of previous classics have lead to a general feeling of blandness for both the PS4 and Xbox One.
There have been few releases to get excited about over the last 18 months or so, with the odd game like The Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight bucking the trend. Hopefully, though, neither system will have much longer to wait until some really great games are released that show off the power of the current consoles.

Acting as the firstborn of EA and Lucasfilm’s ten-year licensing agreement, Dice’s Star Wars Battlefront is shouldering a considerable amount of expectation from fans of the film and the Battlefront franchise alike. Having gained unprecedented access to Lucasfilm’s vaults, though, the studio’s big-budget take on a galaxy far, far away is shaping up to be one of the most authentic and faithful licensed titles in generations.
Granted, Dice has made concessions throughout development, reining in the galactic action and cutting space battles altogether, but that doesn’t mean Star Wars Battlefront will be devoid of aerial combat, as the pulse-pounding new trailer for the shooter’s Fighter Squadron mode attests.

One big takeaway from last month’s trailer reveal for Dice’s Star Wars Battlefront was the unyielding commitment to Lucasfilm’s original trilogy. From the brightly-lit forests of Endor to the snow-stricken hills of Hoth, the attention to detail was almost unparalleled, and there’s already a crackle of excitement around the Star Wars faithful ahead of the title’s arrival in November.
But Dice is working to ensure that fans are excited about more than just visuals; in fact, just yesterday the studio unveiled a new mode that will be included in Battlefront. Entitled Fighter Squadron, this feature will allow players to engage in high-octane dogfighting above the alien planets. It was first glimpsed very briefly in that aforementioned reveal trailer, though Niklas Fegraeus – Design Director at the studio – recently touched upon the airborne mode.

If marathons are your thing, you've got everything from "Firefly" and "Doctor Who" to "House Hunters" and "How It's Made." And if you're a sports fan, while the NBA playoffs are on hiatus, you can still watch a ton of baseball, the 2011 French Open or the annual Memorial Day race the Indianapolis 500.
