George Keeler, operator of the Sonora Freight & Stage line, is out to get possession of the rich gold supplies in the district. As part of his plan to blame the local Indians, he kills young Chief Blue Feather and has one of his henchmen remove the chief's symbolic jeweled belt. The out is caught with the belt and killed by the marshal of Bancroft County, who then sends the belt by courier to Sheriff Jim Crawford of Sonora. Keeler sends his men out after the belt but they are interrupted by the arrival of "Rocky" Lane, passing through the territory on his way to Wyoming. After the gunmen ride off, Rocky stops to aid the dying courier, who persuades him to take the belt to the Indian Agent in Sonora. Rocky delivers the belt at the Trading Post to a man claiming to be the agent and rides on his way. Indian scout Nugget Clark discovers the body of the real agent with a knife in his back. Keeler puts out the story that "Rocky" killed the agent and made off with the belt. The posse catches "Rocky" and he is arrested for murder.
