Quotes

  • Dr. John Marlowe : [when Lisa offers to let him stay overnight in her room]  What will your sisters think?

Lisa Robinson : They are not my sisters; and they have nothing to think with.

  • Dr. John Marlowe : They tell me that in some parts of the world musicians are finding it increasingly difficult to compose non-political music, so it's very gratifying to think that a doctor can still perform a non-political operation.

  • Dr. John Marlowe : Have you changed your mind?

Lisa Robinson : No, I've just lost it.

  • Lisa Robinson : [Lisa settling down after hearing Marlowe's story, believing he is Karl Theodor and letting him sleep on the sofa]  If you don't mind I will go to sleep now

Dr. John Marlowe : Me too, I think I will sleep well tonight

Lisa Robinson : I'm sure you will, I put two sleeping tablets in your cocoa

    [Marlowe looks surprised]

Lisa Robinson : Well Mr Theodor there are risks and risks, and I'm not taking that one !

  • Dr. John Marlowe : What will happen now?

Colonel Galcon : Anything. At the moment I don't know whether I'm a crypto-fascist, a liberal humanitarian or a simple deviationist. It depends whether I still control tomorrow's newspaper.

  • Dr. John Marlowe : We are prepared to strike a bargain.

Lisa Robinson : Do you understand?

    Karl Theodor : Oh, blackmail?

Dr. John Marlowe : If you like.

Karl Theodor : Why couldn't you have said so? You had me worried for a moment. How much?

Dr. John Marlowe : It's not a question of money.

Karl Theodor : Oh please, please. Don't tell me it's the principle of the thing. That always turns out to be so much more expensive.
