Plot Summary

For many years the morning in a house on a hill - somewhere on the outskirts of Paris - always began in the same way. The alarm clock rang out, the radio was nodding, the servant in the kitchen was laying out a solitaire, the pope was remembering the wisdom of Demosthenes, my mother was preparing breakfast. The protagonist, Robert's son, grew up, grew older, grew taller than his father, and even became an attorney for a well-known lawyer. True, in one ordinary winter day in the life of Robert there have been great changes. The young rake unexpectedly lost his job and met the charming girl Catherine - the adoptive mother of a lovely child. And much began to change in the apartment of a friendly family of Robert. Intelligent Mom and Dad could not immediately agree with the unusual choice of his son - to marry a "woman with a child." And only the true spiritual sensitivity, inherent in the characters, will help them understand each other. And even the amusing neighbor around the house, Mr. Kolomel, will contribute his humble contribution to the creation of a new family. The family, who will now be happy in the house on the hill for many more years, and the morning will begin in the same way - with mutual tenderness and trembling love.
