Sex & Nudity

  • A young widow is implied to be a prostitute. The shepherd comes to visit on her invitation. They lay down in front of the fireplace and become amorous but there is an interruption and he is asked to leave. No nudity.
  • The leader of the Turkish soldiers keeps a young Greek boy as a companion to sing to him. There is the implication this is his child prostitute.

Violence & Gore

  • During a violent interaction between the exiled villagers and the neighboring villagers, the local villagers opened fire on the those seeking hospitality. During several skirmishes also including Turkish soldiers, a number of men are killed.

  • The local liquor is seen being served in many scenes. In one scene particularly, a group of men become very drunk.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There is an escalation of violence towards the finale. Other emotional scenes involve a child dying of starvation.
