Poorly directed by Michael Forlong (mostly in a dull procession of uninteresting close-ups), this limp British farce/drama is saved from being a total waste of time, only by the late entrance of Anne Heywood, who plays the hero's wife. Admittedly, she's not always very attractively photographed. (I've never heard of photographer Norman Warwick, and his name is not mentioned in the elaborately detailed roster in the Press Book, although camera operator Eric Besche is listed). But Anne does wear a stunning array of costumes. (Wardrobe mistress Eileen Long is credited, but a wardrobe mistress doesn't design costumes, she just hands them out from stock; so as no costume designer is credited, my guess is that Anne Heywood possibly purchased them herself). Anyway, Anne quite puts little Miss Perrault in the shade. In fact, aside from Anne Heywood, none of the players are worth even stepping across the street to see.
As for the movie itself, it presents as an extremely talky, tightly budgeted and totally uninteresting affair, complete with heaps of dull dialogue, unengaging characters, very run-of-the-mill credits and a hideous title tune.
