This year’s Tonys will be held on June 16, so the American Theatre Wing will likely be announcing its lifetime achievement award recipient in the near future. Who do you think should take home this prestigious trophy? It has gone to veteran stage performers, directors, choreographers, playwrights, songwriters, producers and designers. In some years we get multiple recipients.
Last year these honors went to legendary actor Joel Grey and composer John Kander. The following living female Broadway vets have also received this award in the past and thus won’t be chosen again: Jane Greenwood, Rosemary Harris and Graciela Daniele. Here are 10 possible women the Tonys could award, all veterans over the age of 65. Vote to let us know who you’d like to see honored.

It’s official: A Harry Potter TV series is coming to the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has revealed plans for a live-action TV series based on controversial author J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. Zaslav made the announcement Wednesday morning during a presentation that revealed how streamers HBO Max and Discovery+ would be integrated. As expected, HBO Max has also officially been rebranded and is now simply called “Max.”
Here’s how the series is described by Max: “The stories from each of Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years.

Channing Tatum may be one of Hollywood’s hottest actors, but that doesn’t mean he’s immune from becoming starstruck.
During a recent interview with People, the “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” star recounts “one of the funniest” anecdotes, about when he lost his composure when he was introduced to Matt Damon while shooting the 2011 movie “Haywire”, directed by Steven Soderbergh.
“We’re in Albuquerque, and we’ve shot for the day. We’re all just hanging out at the hotel bar and Matt Damon comes by to hang out with Soderbergh,” Tatum recalled.

Joy Sunday, who stars as Bianca Barclay in the Netflix series Wednesday, has an unattainable crush. Though the actor’s character has enough of a woeful time winning the affections of Wednesday’s Xavier (Percy Hynes White), even Bianca’s siren song isn’t going to win her the heart of this literary hero.

Undoubtedly, fans know Sunday best for her role as the silver-eyed siren in the Netflix series Wednesday. Introduced in the show as “the closest thing to Nevermore royalty,” Bianca is the coolest girl in school.
As the idea of popularity is mainly based upon the opinion of those who think about things like popularity, Bianca isn’t much of a fan of the socially disinterested Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega). Bianca’s dislike for Wednesday only...

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has been searching for his very own Kevin Feige to head up the DC franchise, and he may have found the man for the job. THR reported that Dan Lin, who has produced movies such as Sherlock Holmes, The Lego Movie, It, and Aladdin, is in talks to take over DC Films.
Walter Hamada, the current head of DC Films, was close to leaving earlier this month after he was blindsided by David Zaslav’s decision to shelve the Batgirl movie. Should Dan Lin’s deal close, he would take control of not just DC Films, but every DC television project as well. He would report directly to Zaslav, bypassing the heads of Warner Bros. Pictures (Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy), HBO/HBO Max (Casey Bloys), and Warner Bros. TV (Channing Dungey). Former Disney Cco Alan Horn (who was president of Warner Bros....

Michael Parks, longtime Hollywood mainstay and beloved character actor and singer, has passed away at the age of 77. The news was announced by filmmaker Kevin Smith, who took to his Instagram to share that “the best actor I’ve ever known” and his “cinematic muse,” had died. No cause of death was named.
Smith directed Parks in both his “Tusk” and “Red State,” having relished the longtime actor’s career since first seeing him in Robert Rodriguez’s “From Dusk Till Dawn.” Though Parks’ career stretched back to 1960, when he made his screen debut on TV’s “Zane Grey Theater,” in recent years, the supporting standout had enjoyed a revival at the hands of both Quentin Tarantino (who Smith deemed Parks’ “biggest fan”) and Smith, who continued to craft roles for the singular actor.

Martha Thomases’s column on Friday addressed the sexism and gender issue that is suddenly so rampant in the comics medium and its, ahem, sisters, science fiction and gaming, as I did last week – again.
Sexism and gender issues are nothing new to me in my other life as a registered nurse. Do I have to tell you that nurses have been the targets of sexist bullshit forever? (Female nurses, that is. Male nurses are part of the “club.”) However, these days most hospital administrations have strict “zero tolerance” policies, meaning that any type of hostile behavior, including sexism, is not, well, tolerated. And most of them mean it. If it happens, the perpetrator is usually given a choice – attend a proscribed amount of therapy sessions or be fired, although there are several “behaviors” that will cause immediate termination (such as calling your workmate a “fucking Jew,” which happened to...

Since the incredible Neil Patrick Harris is hosting this weekend’s Tony Awards, that gives Ologists Emily Cheever and Terron R. Moore the magnificent chance to predict the winners just like every other fancy schmancy critic out there. Do Emily or Terron have any knowledge about what’s been tearing up Broadway this year? Better question: does it matter? Nope! Check out their predictions for six major categories below:
Best Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role In A Play
Nina Arianda, Venus in Fur
Tracie Bennett, End of the Rainbow
Stockard Channing, Other Desert Cities
Linda Lavin, The Lyons
Cynthia Nixon, Wit
Terron: What's a Stockard Channing? Because that sounds familiar. And Christmas-y.
Emily: I think she was in Grease? And I think she was the slutty one. No lie, once this therapist said I reminded her of Stockard in Grease, which is weird because i specifically said boys weren't into me.

There's a new girl coming to Broadway. Cast by the country icon herself, Zooey Deschanel will play Loretta Lynn in an upcoming stage musical about the singer's life, Coal Miner's Daughter, producers for the Broadway-bound production have announced. Lynn personally introduced Deschanel Thursday night on the stage of Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium during Opry Country Classics. The two then sang "Coal Miner's Daughter." "It's a long way from Butcher Holler to Broadway in New York City. I never imagined I'd see Coal Miner's Daughter on a movie screen, and now I can't believe it's going to be on a stage for people to see,...

What's Jack Nicholson's secret? Maybe it's the eyebrows, hovering like ironic quotation marks over every line reading. Maybe it's the hooded eyes, which hold the threat of danger or the promise of joviality -- you're never sure which. Same with that sharklike grin. Or maybe it's the voice, which has evolved over the years from a thin sneer to a deep rumble, but is always precisely calibrated to provoke a reaction. Put them all together, and they say: "I am a man to be reckoned with. Ignore me at your peril." Nicholson, who turns 75 on April 22, is often criticized for relying on his bag of tricks, for just showing up and doing Jack Nicholson (though indeed, he often seems to have been hired precisely for that purpose). But he's also capable of burrowing deep into a character, finding his wounded heart, and revealing the ugly truth without fear or vanity.

With Comic Con officially in the rear view mirror, one of the names that really took San Diego by storm was director Steven Soderbergh. His film, Haywire, saw the release of a trailer and some footage, all of which really impressed the members of the audience who attended the film’s panel.
And now, in the wake of the Con, The Playlist was able to chat with the director, and learned a lot about a few projects coming down the director’s pipeline.
First up, Soderbergh revealed that he’s completed a documentary following the making of the cult classic, End Of The Road. Penned by Easy Rider co-writer Terry Southern (probably best known for his screenplay for Dr. Strangelove), the film starred James Earl Jones, Stacy Keach and Harris Yulin, and was rated X for featuring an abortion sequence. It became a cult hit for those looking for a bit of counter-culture,...

Annette Bening looks older. Well, hurrah for that! It's a rare but pleasurable example of a woman my age in a Hollywood film
The Kids Are All Right has several things going for it. Close behind Mark Ruffalo at his most adorably Ruffaloesque, Julianne Moore's scrumptious rump and the title being The Kids Are All Right and not The Kids Are Alright, is the rare but pleasurable spectacle of a woman my age up on screen in big close-up. We haven't seen much of Annette Bening of late, and apparently she's been too busy rearing children to worry about getting lifted or Botoxed, because she looks older. Well, hurrah for that! That's what my neck looks like too!
There are, of course, inevitable online comments by wet-eared oiks who sneer: "She's beginning to look like the Crypt Keeper." But this is what fiftysomething females look like, tykes, so get over it.
