The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • For a film from the 1960s, Saladin is an incredibly violent film, although tame by today's standards. Examples include:
  • -An early scene where a group of praying Muslims are brutally slaughtered by crusaders. We see close-up shots of impalements with significant blood spray and blood splattering on the ground. This scene goes on for several minutes and is more disturbing than graphic. By the end, the ground is drenched with blood and dead bodies.
  • -During the siege of Acre, we see civilians (women and children) pierced with arrows and cut down with swords. This is edited very quickly and easy to miss.
  • -Lord Renaud has a sword run through him by Saladin. We see blood on the sword and close-up of blood dripping out of Renaud's mouth.
  • -Lady Virginia gets burned from a falling siege tower and is later seen with grotesque-looking facial scars. Note: The low-budget make-up makes this scene look pretty hokey.
  • -Richard the Lionheart is shot with a poisoned arrow. At one point, we see a close-up of the bloodless wound.
  • -A group of unarmed Muslim prisoners are executed by archers. Bloodless, but emotional.
